Hands-On Review of the Buzzsaw Adjustable Bench From Bells of Steel (With Attachments)

  • This Buzz-Saw bench from ‪@BELLSOFSTEEL‬ is an absolute tank! At 100 pounds, it may be TOO heavy duty for some, but if you plan on lifting heavy in your home gym, this thing is incredible.
    I was previously using a cheap adjustable bench from Amazon and it would slide and tip on me- I definitely don't have that problem anymore.
    The attachments are solid, but as somebody with a leg extension/leg curl machine, I don't find them necessary. If you have very limited space, having them as part of the bench is a huge space saver.

    I was waiting for someone like you to get one of those with the extensions to see what ideas people can come up with to extend its versatility, like with the lever arms!
    The first attachment can be used for Nordic Curls, as a leg anchor for Back Extensions and as an arm rest for Preacher Curls. For greater ROM on the leg extension, I set the knee pads higher and incline the seat so that I'm laying back a little. It's not a crazy difference, but I don't hit the bench as easily. Also to get some resistance at the bottom of the movements you can attach band(s) from either the seat or back pad handles to the shin pads (or around the weight pin). Still working on the logistics, but might add some holes and pins to simplify band attachment.

      I did realize you can do nordic curls after making this video, so that's a definite bonus. Using it as an arm rest is ok, but I actually got the seal row pad attachment for my rack and that has been absolutely awesome for preacher curls. I'll definitely be playing around with it to see if I can come up with anything good though!

    Bought a cheap bench couple years ago. Just ordered this one. But the REP blackwing looks pretty cool too, the price on this one was more in line for me. 🤞

    FYI for the limited stretched position of the leg extension, you can remedy it somewhat by inclining the seat portion of the bench, adjusting the back rest accordingly, and lifting the attachment up a few pegs to fix the leg pad alignment. Also improves the resistance curve since when your seat is perpendicular to the floor, the first couple of inches of movement have like no resistance.

    I've been eyeing this one. I don't have room for a leg curl/extension machine. The price is a little higher than I expected though. I may just wait on the rack-attached curl/extension from BoS.

      If you have the compatible rack for the attachment, DEFINITELY go for that. That looks like an awesome addition.

    Hey Matt, really like your video! How much 45 plates can you put on the leg extension attachment (4 or more)? Thanks a lot!

    I’m leaning on pulling the trigger on this one for the leg extensions option. Just curious how you still feel about it? Great review.

    This, the Rogue or other adjustable bench? I need one for my home gym to use as a free weights bench as well as a rack bench, and it better be top-notch quality, built like a tank and bombproof.

    If you raise the leg extension attachment when you're doing extensions, your feet don't hit the floor like that. It took me a minute to find that out myself.

    Hey Matt, I was wondering if you could share the dimensions for the attachments. Specifically, I'm trying to see if the ones in the Bells of Steel line will work with my bench (that accepts 1 3/4" x 1 3/4") as they look really solid and are priced very well.

    You can use the handle as a smash burger press, or steaks maybe even panini's. 😀

    It looks like you're showing using both 1" and 2" plates on the leg curl attachment. Is the 2" horn sleeve removable?

    Just wondering, did BOS send you the bench or give you any discount? If not I think they should based off your past reviews and loyalty to the brand. Your reviews seem to be a bit more positive than others but they are probably comparing to many different brands at higher price points. Love these reviews though.

    • @MattRosenman
      @MattRosenman  Рік тому

      Hey Sean! They did send me the attachments to try/review since I otherwise would not have have purchased them considering I have the dedicated machine. All of the links I throw into the descriptions are affiliate links, so I do get kickbacks if anyone chooses to shop through those links.
      I think you nailed why my reviews might feel more positive- all of my equipment is the only stuff I own and genuinely enjoy using. The bigger reviewers out there, like Coop, have a tonnnnn of equipment to compare and aren't necessarily using each piece in their home gyms, so it's much easier to find faults with each piece when that's the case.

    I like most things about this bench except for the fact that it goes to a true 90degrees. I have found this to be too upright for my needs - something like 88, 87, 85 degrees makes more sense and is much more natural/safe on shoulder joints. Rep and rogue made this same discovery when they released the first versions of their benches (which all went to a true 90 as well), and have since updated their newer benches to Max out between 85 and 90 degrees. I have a Rep AB3000 (2021 model) that I had to modify from 90 to ~87 degrees myself... But it looks like there is no good way to modify this BOS design so I'll have to pass on this bench. Mostly everything else I have is BOS though! Great review

      I'm not sure of the exact degrees, but the second highest setting should be roughly 80" (if my quick math is correct) so that might work out decently well. But I feel ya, those few degrees can definitely make a difference.

    • @ajcarson1
      @ajcarson1 Рік тому

      @@MattRosenman right! Honestly your shoulder flexibility might be better than mine, which probably makes 90 degrees just fine. I was surprised at how much just 2 or 3 degrees makes in comfort for me on shoulder press.

    How the lying leg curl can u feel it good on hamstrings or better to isolate?

      I've had these attachments for a while now and at this point the lying leg curls is the ONLY exercise I do regularly. It feels awesome.

    Could you not add a hook into the side of the pad then use your cable machine to make it a machine?

    Hey Matt. I would like to do leg extension in my homegym but don't have room for a machine. In your opinion would sitting on a plyo box and using a cable machine work for leg extensions? This video shows what I was thinking ua-cam.com/video/ebjD98gZd8E/v-deo.html

    That handle looks flimsy. It should be thick knurled steel.
