Quincy Jones has said of Jacob, "I have never in my life seen a talent like this."
There are dozens and dozens of mind-blowing Jacob performances to experience. If your are interested, I'll suggest two just to get started...His cover of All Night Long showcases a bit more of the astonishing breadth of his talent. He arranged the whole cover and incorporates full orchestra, large chorus, legendary acapella group Take 6, and more and plays percussion, bass, piano and sings.
And he recently appeared along with Laufey and Dodie with the National Symphony Orchestra for a performance of the traditional folk song "Wild Mountain Thyme" that is incredible (in that performance, he also invites the entire audience to sing, forming an audience choir).
    Have fun!

Also, there's an excellent documentary that aired a few years ago on the BBC on Jacob called "Jacob Colllier - In the Room Where it Happens". Gives a great introduction to Jacob and his amazing career so far.

Quincy has been his personal mentor and friend for over a decade. There's also a video of the superstar composer Hans Zimmer getting a bit praising Jacob. Basically, the bigger the giant, the more they look up to him.

That is a wonderfully comforting song. A very close relative died last year. That song was released when I needed it. Adding to @ojacid's comment. The 'choir' were mainly fans who could meet Collier at that venue _later the same day._ A person who said they were in the choir wrote in a comment: they met, learned the song, rehearsed, and performed it, all in about 2 hours. Jacob says anyone can sing, they just need guidance and encouragement. Jacob does _not_ play any bowed instrument (though his Mum is a concert violinist, conductor and music educator), or that requires embouchure. Jacob Collier is the first (and currently only) British artist or band to win a Grammy for each of his first 4 albums. [Mind boggling!]
All Jacob Collier's "Audience Choir" live performances are worth listening to.
I especially like Queen cover _Somebody To Love (Live in Lisbon)_ ua-cam.com/video/cCl7_tXs80Y/v-deo.html The audience is wonderful starting 3:53. Collier learned a new song, and improvised it, for each city in his 2022 world tour. That was his 71st piano ballad cover.
    Best Wishes. ☮
The video is about his 5-string guitar is _How Jacob Collier Reinvented The Guitar_ ua-cam.com/video/WknTbYOet4c/v-deo.html (40m:51s)

I found Jacob's music a few months ago and just love it. It sounds like he makes his own notes and chords, not being bound by all the standard things we learned all our lives in piano lessons or chorus. Such a free musical spirit! I don't remember the name of the song he sang when I first heard him but it was a performance featuring John Legend and Tori Kelly. Fantastic! Thank you for this reaction this morning, gentlemen.

That's definitely not a cheap guitar, it's his signature 5-string Taylor! He found that learning guitar (I don't believe he's been playing that long) was much more approachable on 5 strings, tuned to DAEAD. There's a great video on here with him explaining it all.

Omg it's about effing time! LOL. First of all, like Johnny said, this song is simple and yet it takes you on a journey. My daughter loves this song. He's sooo good at dissonance. And the thing that he did with the "choir", he does that in his concerts. Turns people who don't really sing into a choir. And about his guitar playing skills, he said in a recent interview that he admires guitar players because the guitar is "hard" to play. LOL Thank you for finally reacting to him. I am hoping to see more. You might want to react to the music video. Oh, yes he edits videos too. Please react to Hideaway from his first album from when he was 16 or 17.❤❤❤

Since Johnny mentioned Hey Jude it might interesting to watch one of the live improv versions of Blackbird that he’s done at concerts… note: some of them can spin out to 11 minutes or more when he involves the audience. There’s also a gorgeous, more restrained piano version he did in someone’s home.
Also, his version of Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop Til you Get Enough, on the Yamaha Disklavier piano is a mind blowing bit of virtuoso self-accompaniment.
Also, his song Don’t You Know that he recorded live with a massive Snarky Puppy ensemble is epic.

One of my wishes for the universe is a collaboration between Jacob and Dimash in a joint musical project.
They were born in the same year - 1994 seems to be an exceptional year. 😉

Dear Richard and dear Johnny, now I've finally been able to watch your video.
Thanks again - as always, it was a pleasure to watch you discover a musician I've been “studying” for about 1.5 years. 🙏❤
What particularly fascinates me about Jacob is the fact that he is largely self-taught, even though his mother is a professional musician. He plays an incredible number of instruments at an incredibly high level and I personally find his musical language very unusual and multi-faceted.
I have already recommended the video of the long interview "We Interviewes the Mozart of Gen Z" to you.
At the very beginning, he was on stage with a one-man show, of which there is a video of a performance at the TED Talk in Vancouver 2017.
What I would watch if I were you is “With The Love In My Heart” (live in Toronto) from 2019, for example. This shows quite well the beginning of his play with the audience and the unbridled joy with which he stands on stage (when I watch him like this, having so much fun making music, I have the same big grin on my face as when I watch one of your videos 😉). You can also see what great musicians he has surrounded himself with.
“Sleeping On My Dreams” (live in Lisbon) from 2022 is another one of my favorite videos that spreads a lot of good vibes, with even more great musicians in his band.
Someone else here already suggested that you should definitely check out “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and the short video about the crazy recording session with Tori Kelly for her part in Jacob's version of the song.
Oh yes, something else worth mentioning:
Jacob also mixes his own recordings himself. In his “Logic Session Breakdown” videos, you can watch him at work.
I really wonder if this young man ever sleeps. It seems like he lives many lives at the same time in order to manage all his skills and activities. 🤯🤯🤯
He is definitely one of the most fascinating musical personalities of our time and, as I mentioned earlier, I would find a collaboration between him and Dimash, his colleague of the same age in a joint project extremely exciting...

Collier's insight on harmony, from his interview on TED Radio Hour, NPR, on June 17, 2022: "... the language of musical harmony is an absolutely extraordinary one. It's a way of navigating one's emotional frameworks but without the need to put things into words. And I think that, as with many other languages, it doesn't matter how much you know about a language, it doesn't matter how many words you can say, how many phrases you know. What matters is the emotional choices you make with this language."

One of my fav performance is ”Best Part” Jacob Collier &Daniel Ceasar ( live in Toronto). The playfulness and interaction with the audience and still so much going on musically. Really funny as well🥰 Please check out😉

Jacob has a talent for suspending a simple hook in a vortex of complexity in such a way that the hook is still intact and not buried in the vortex. The mark of a true genius.
You should react to his version of “PYT”, or his magnum opus, “Moon River”

Jacob began singing as a kid in choirs. He has said his favorite instrument is the voice. BTW if you enjoy the dissonant chords listen to World O World on Djesse Vol 4
And his hero was Bobby Mc Ferris who he recently met.

I became aware of Jacob Collier six years ago in a video by Wired, where he explained the concept of harmony in 5 Levels of Difficulty, to 5 different people; a child, a teen, a college student, a professional, and jazz legend Herbie Hancock. I feel this video kind of sums up what he is like pretty well.

And then he performs an extraordinary duet with Aurora which they both complement each other, not overpowering but almost as if it was one voice. The piano playing is just as beautiful.

So far (I paused the video) you’ve missed the fact that that’s a 5 string guitar that he himself invented… ‘since he only has five fingers’. Staggering genius-level shenanigans!!

He does this regularly with tens of thousands of amateur unrehearsed audience members. Bobby McFerrin was one of his influences. He met him after his recent san fran concert in fact. When he first took up guitar he struggled a bit thinking play five fingers for six strings so he had a custom-made 5 string guitar made. Since then he's also played ten string guitars. Yes, he's actually more virtuosic as a jazz piano improviser. Check out "don't you know" with snarky puppy

Really enjoyed your reaction to this. I'd pick up on a couple of points. You're right, definitely not his principal instrument, he plays an enormous number but didn't take to guitar especially easily, as far as I've seen from interviews. You suggested the model he's playing was a fairly reasonably priced one. Actually, it was custom made by Taylor, with just five strings, not six, and you'll find videos on YT where he's explaining the unusual tuning he uses. You can buy this model now but it's a little under $3000. A better instrument than you gave credit for!

12 years ago, his production of Stevie Wonder’s songs such as Isn’t she lovely! and Don’t you worry bout a thing on UA-cam got the attention of Quincy Jones. The rest is history. His creative genius playing with harmonies was evident in youthful work such as, Isn’t she lovely! & Moon River. His multi-instrumental abilities are in full display in Don’t you worry bout a thing. You also gotta see his unique production of Moon River to appreciate his genius. See relevant links below.
