The only thing this musical was missing was a live audience. The Wiz was definitely one of the best televised stage productions. The cast did a great job the whole show.

The Wicked Witch of the West only appears in one chapter in the middle of the book. In the stage version, after the Wiz flies away in his balloon, Dorothy and the lads have to travel south to meet Glinda. In both this show and the movie version of _The Wiz,_ they rather lazily took the MGM route and had Dorothy go home from the Emerald City.
For those from the younger generation, u gotta understand, Mary Blige was alright, but Mabel King is the EFFIN QUEEN of this song from the wiz. King owned it like nobody's business.

I still have it recorded on my dvr from when it aired live, and I'm curious as to whether they switched the performance after it aired. I'm anxious to watch it again, and check that out. Fox did that with their Rent Live. The performance from Angel was embarrassingly bad, and if you watch it on UA-cam now, all of a sudden he's singing most of the notes. Lol. Fyi., for those that don't know, the late great Mabel King was the original Evileene...not just in the movie, but ALSO in that "something that came way before it," the Broadway Show (but not really "way before," just 3 years).
