  • After the tragic 2019 season, climbers mourn those who lost their lives on Mt. Everest. Some question if stricter regulations are needed to prevent overcrowding and environmental exploitation in: A Deadly Ascent.
This is the untold story of the 2019 Mount Everest tragedy, where 11 people died trying to scale the world’s highest summit. An image that went viral showed a glimpse of what happened that day - a long, continuous line of hundreds of climbers bottlenecked on the summit ridge of Everest, all trying to take advantage of a narrow window to get to the top.
Weaving first-hand accounts from alpinists, Sherpas and those who lost loved ones, find out how and why things went awry. Was the mountain too crowded, and were there too many inexperienced climbers, lured by the magic of the mountain by exploitative companies. And what is the environmental impact caused by the influx of climbers?

I am just a simple mountaineer. If you want to climb Everest, here are your basic considerations:1. you must be extremely fit physically. 2. You must have a reasonable amount of experience and technical ability.3.You must have incredible mental stamina and determination to push through an incredibly uncomfortable experience. 4. You MUST accept the fact that you may not return home.
Most people will have some fitness, but the personal conviction that one's fitness is sufficient may, in reality, fall well short of what is actually required to reach the top of the world. Most people do not have the patience to climb different types of peaks and routes and, under different conditions, take courses, etc., to culminate with an attempt at this monster. Even on smaller peaks, summit fever can push you on, and that is what may kill you in the end. Finally, at that very moment when a climber realizes that he or she is about to die, I wonder how many of them regret the choice they made to undertake this adventure.
I would not consider a couple of dozen deaths per season a large number. I actually think the mountain is showing some degree of kindness to the mass of climbers that arrive annually with their dreams. Remember, Man is not meant to survive or thrive at that altitude.
Also, has there ever been someone who reached the summit who then had the humility to return home and not brag to everyone they know that "I climbed" Everest. I doubt that a lot. If you really climbed the mountain (and I am not good enough to do so), then you should have carried all the shit you needed by yourself and helped carry all that stuff up the mountain, not paying someone else to do it.

I used to dream of climbing that mountain when I was a kid.. ( back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) but after about 1985 or so, more and more people were doing it so it wasn't that attractive. I'm always amazed at the the number of surgeons who climb it. They need their fingers to perform their skillset. Why risk frostbite.
I wanted to go into search and rescue at a mountain resort during the winter but my fingers go numb in air below 40° F. So, no not going to happen

Cheating and relying on technology will get you to places you would never normally go.
    And then there are problems...
Go to the mountains with respect.

This is my idea of madness. And disrespect for a beautiful mountain. Please be a mountaineer before you climb. I despair for humans,

It is disgusting!! Sadly, the true meaning of a "blessing" transitioned to how much money we can make, and the blessing is now just a part of the "$50,000" cost for your experience. Nothing excuses the behavior of these "well to do" people leaving their trash and whatever else!!

I’m sorry. I don’t know a lot but I know this is disrespectful to the mountains. They are loving, taking and giving .

Why not lay O2 piping all along to the summit from the base camp to near summit or so call death zone,,,this enable to reduce deaths at the top due to lack of O2,,,so sad to hear people died due to lack of O2 up there ,,,what a sad thing to happened,,,just a suggestion from a layman
