Are the ones who survive better off? I know they are paid a lot of money compared to what they make in their community but does it improve their lives. If an accident occurs and a sherpa loses his life the family has lost a breadwinner. The same thing applies to men on a North Sea oil rig. Good money high risk.
I don’t have an opinion on the earthquake that killed many sherpas. They were on the mountain because of the money.

I read a lot of "thanks" here, but no one can live off of "thanks" and no one can keep doing this forever, no matter how strong, kind-hearted or brave they are. The Sherpas doing this forfeited their own clients' fee to rescue this idiot. Their families will now go hungry. How was that fair?! In the future, each climber wishing the bragging right of "conqueror of Mt. Everest" needs to contribute to a cumulative "Sherpa Rescue Fund" for future rescues such as this. No upfront contribution, no rescue!

Ang rita sherpa climbed Everest without Oxygen support and shoes but hes not the one that gets recognised. ❤❤❤ Sherpas regularly save soooo many climbers but rarely get their due. The climber didnt even thank gelje sherpa but kept praising himself.

It would have been so easy to say to yourself, “Someone else will probably help him on their way down from the summit.” Props to the Chinese client who gave up the summit to help this man - after all the time and money he spent in preparation.
