This video should be taken down it is only any good to show how not use a panel saw unless you want to have an accident. This person using the saw does not know what he is doing. The only thing he did correctly was using the dustpan and brush. The way he held the workpiece against the fence was awkward and ineffectual. Pushing the workpiece against the fence will also push the sliding carriage, his right hand should have been on the work pice not the side handle. His stance and using his right hand on the handle increases the risk of kickback. It’s 40 years since I qualified but I remember the hight of the guard being 10mm above the workpiece to prevent fingers going under the guard. When using the parallel fence you would only move the sliding carriage if the workpiece is very long and you need to support the off cut otherwise you should lock the carriage and use the saw as a traditional table saw. Once the workpiece has been cut you should punch it past the blade and past the fence to stop it being trapped between the spinning blade and fence. If the workpiece is trapped it will be thrown out towards the front at high speed. In the video we see the workpiece left between the blade and fence and then the operative lean across in front to switch off increasing the risk of being hit if the workpiece is thrown out. Cutting the size of workpiece show you would use the parallel fence as a short fence and the cut the work pice withe the sliding carriage. When ever possible panel saws should be operated from the left hand side of the sliding carriage. Do not leave off cuts on the floor, pick them up immediately so you don’t trip.
