    A tip: Your feet change as they get stronger and more flexible so you might find your perfect shoe and then hate them a year later, so it's okay if you switch between shoes in your beginning stages.

    I wish i would’ve been more spoken out about what shoes i was getting, 90% of my studio wore European balance unless you had some crazy feet, every time I would get a new pair they were either a different size, box width, or shank strength because i kept having issues. I broke Russians in half, until one day.... my teacher saw my bare feet and realized a few things, my feet were compressive, very narrow and tapered when pointed, and extremely flexible for an average arch so my feet were called “octopus feet” because they would fit into any and every shoe. It wasn’t until I put on a Bloch Axiom in a narrow box with a very soft shank that I was like “OH MY GOD, THIS IS WHAT THEYRE SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE” so I wish I would’ve been more outspoken because my feet looked good in everything but didn’t FEEL good in everything and I just went with whatever they gave me. I found out on my own at 25 😬

    i think the reason it’s harder to do deep plies in pointe shoes is that when you plié, your feet physically expand and widen. in pointe shoes, your feet don’t have as much room to do that.

    What you need in a first pair of pointe shoes is entirely different in what you need in your shoes later on. Part of why beginners are fitted in certain shoes is because of what individual dancers need to develop. At least, that's my simple, basic understanding of an extremely expert topic.

    So for the first one, I am very fortunate. My whole class moved up together and we had a “pointe shoe party” where we would all go and get fitted. And the person fitting us was our pointe teacher, as she works at the store. When one person was being fitted, you could either hangout with them or hangout with everyone else in the party room. I tried all brands and I’m not even kidding. I tried pre shanked shoes and I was able to go wayyyy to far, same with soft and half shanks, and that’s not good for the first shoe. I ended up with Suffolk Stellars, and to this day that’s the brand I have

  • @lizzylambardo8103
    @lizzylambardo8103 3 роки тому +4

    My first fitting I swear we must have gone through 50 pairs of shoes and at least 2 different kinds of toe pads. I have a disappearing heel, strong feet from tap, but my feet are kinda weirdly shaped and they twist. I ended up in Gaynors as my first pair. I had the same kind if Gaynors for a couple years until one of my teachers told me I couldn't wear them anymore. After that, I ended up in Russian Pointes.

    • @liaoz9100

      @lizzylambardo8103 2 роки тому

      @@liaoz9100 I honestly don't even remember. It's been so long. I think she didn't like that you dont really have to go through the whole "breaking in your shoes" process like you would have to with russian pointes, grishkos, and all the rest. Of course there's a break in process with any pointe shoes, but gaynors way less than any others. And they're already padded to an extent so you dont get that full experience I guess. Idk. It never really made much sense to me. And I have really wide feet, so gaynors were the only shoes in the store I went to that actually had a good width for me (the store was where everyone at my studio was supposed to go).

    tip: LESS IS MORE!!! don't cram your shoe with every possible thing (toe pads, toe spacers, lambs wool, etc). from personal experience and advice from other people, as long as you have enough to keep it from hurting, you don't need much. also try different types of elastic (single or double) and ribbon (regular satin or elastic).

      Remember to do ankle strengthening!! It helped me so much but just so you know you may not end up in gaynors different brands are for different feet type make sure you feel stable when your fitted and it’s not hurting your toes too bad of course it’s going to hurt a little because it’s new. You may need to wear lambs wool as well as toe pads or one! It depends, you need to trim toe nails but make sure that your not cutting them to short to the point it hurts. MAKE SURE TO NOT GET INGROWN NAILS. Also when your putting your shoes on your big toe should slide on the the side of the shoe to be aligned correctly.

    I’ve been dancing for around ten years now, and on October I started pre pointe class with Demi pointe shoes. Today my teachers said that I’m strong enough for pointe!!! However there is only one fitter in my entire state…. And no appointments open 😭

    Hi! I have a question! If I feel like I’m touching the ground but the shank still seems to be good, the pointe shoes are broken or it’s just my feet?

    Hi i have been on pointe for a couple months(since October) and i was just wondering how much pointe shoes are supposed to hurt or when pain goes away? MY shoes hurt so so bad every time i have class. My teacher doesnt let us where toe pads so i figure that probably why my toes hurt but its my whole foot. The shoe doesnt feel right and it really hurts to just stand flat footed with them even though they are completely broken in it just feels like my feet are too long and are crushing against the box. Idk if this is normal i told my teacher she said just use toe tape and it helps a little bit but im still in tears by the end of each class. Any advice would be helpful thanks! :)

      Hello, have you found a solution for your problem? I'm sure your shoes must be wrong for you if you are in so much pain. Your teacher does not sound very competent, frankly, not helping you with this.

    So awesome to see content on your UA-cam that is very interesting to me and relevant to ballet... that I don’t have to pay for. I don’t mean any harm, but for me, personally...I had only just subscribed to your channel and it seemed like, immediately you announced your patreon, and were advertising content that I wanted to see, but had to pay to see. As a new subscriber, that was off putting. I practiced ballet for 10 years as a kid and early teen, and I really miss it. Thank you for this awesome video!
