Unfortunately, adapt or die is a constant. Even biological evolution is essentially an arms race. It's not all terrible, considering the modern tech we enjoy (like your instant comment to the world) is often a consequence of some arms race.

Despite the Airborne tab on the badge, they are actually the 101st Air Assault Division. The Airborne tab remained a part of their badge due to their rich history of being badasses in WWII.
They’ve been testing some in the current wars that we aid. Getting rid of our stock that has been replaced with more advance devices/ammunition. One example is the way suppressors are built now.
Think of all the money they could have saved by just making a bullpup .270 Win combat rifle and machine guns. That being said, I like the M7 way more than my malfunctioning old M-16, and yes, the plastic stock pieces were made by mattel. Better than having them made in China, don't you think? The new M-250 can replace both the SAW and the M-40. There is no need for a third option. The M-338, whomever winds up getting the contract will be a welcome, weight-saving replacement for the .50Cal Ma Deuce in light infantry use. I think they are really on track with this latest program. The one vehicle I don't like is the open cab troop transport. I think it's a bad idea trying to be good. They really need to redesign it with better protection from the elements and small arms fire.
It amazes me how the new technology is replacing old techniques in warfare situations! Most people will argue that we thrive on killing each other; quite the contrary. My Brother in Arms are trained to eliminate the enemy if it’s required by threat or invasion. However, We are Sentries of Peace; do people actually think that the USA would be what it is without its Military? 🦅🇺🇸
Yes, as a Veteran I think America would be better without its military. Until WW2 we demobilized after every conflict. Our Cold War efforts were a total waste of energy, from Eisenhower committing acts of war in the Soviet Union because of our fear, to war crimes by ordering CIA pilots to bomb civilian towns in Guatemala to encourage conflict there, to overthrowing Iran's government (that sure worked out for us). Then we've got Vietnam... Did our military stop genocide in Rwanda? No. Bosnia? No. Ethiopia today? No. Today the USA jails as many people as the USSR did during the Gulag years, and we have politicians focused on books in libraries, grocery price fixing, and pet eating... We could have stopped Russia's invasion of Ukraine very easily before it started. But that's not in our interest. Do we become the bad guys at some point?
Trading blood for steel may sound good at first but ultimately it un-democritizes combat and instead centralizes it into an ever smaller group of people which eventually will become dangerous. Armies of men are inherently safer for society on the whole as they are more difficult to control and as such use for abuses. Men can disobey unethical orders or rebel against unjust leaders. Its an important built in "saftey" mechanism that cannot neccesarily be replicated in machines. Furthermore; the nature of battle does by its nature instill principles in the military and warrior class which are ultimately good and help us avoid neccesary or excessively cruel warfare. Once this is removed fighting could become much more brutal and sick especially for non combatants. Hackers and politicians directing waves of robots are not the same thing as Officers or Soldiers. There WILL be unsavory consequences because of this. Ultimately none of this matters however as the demands of competition will force everyone's hand regardless of anything I just said true or not.
I'm sympathetic to what you're saying. And certainly a hostile country could take advantage of deploying automated weapons on civilians that their soldiers might have opposed using. But at the same time look in Ukraine. You have an invading autocratic country in Russia that has so propagandized its population into obedience that they are more than happy to trade blood for blood. Ukraine with its smaller population by necessity must use a blood for steel approach to defend itself. And at least from the US perspective there are guidelines about the use of autonomous weapons. The reality is modern warfare between peer threats is already an un-democratic system in terms of decision making on use of weaponry. In a war with China and the US we will be exchanging literally tens of thousands of missiles with each other that will be launched by only a handful of people. Not to mention the vast nuclear stockpiles that are launched through the practically solo decisions of heads of state.

Humans' ingenuity to invent new ways of killing one another never ceaes to amaze me.
Only ISRAHELL is doing that.

@@Phrancis5 You are correct, the internet was first developed by the U.S. Military.
What would really be impressive is to figure out how not to.

It's the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Just like it's the 10th Mountain Division (Light).
Technology will lead the way...
Finally we see the US taking action and doing something. Warfare has COMPLETELY changed, even from just 5/10 years ago.
Fun fact - Charlie DiAgata’s chin is actually made of Kevlar!
