thank you for taking my request! i am so excited to get more in the habit of doing something like this. it wasn’t until recently i realized my needs weren’t being met by my own brain 😂 but i think this will be helpful in keeping a better lid on that.

Of course!! I had kids and the sleep deprivation and time taking care of babies got me super behind in my projects, the scratch journal was born from that need. Hopefully you try it and love it as much as I do!

Thanks. I have been doing this with my travel journals. Now I know what they are called.

Hi. Scratch Journal is just what I call it. I have others call it their daily jot or brain dump. But I come from a tech background and the scratch is where all temp stuff lives, hence my name for it.

Don't stress, my 15 year old son still thinks I'm pretty cool :) Also, your scratch journal is way cuter than my "everything notebook".

Oh I aspire to still being cool with my 15 year old. Thanks for the compliment, I used to carry these terrible spiral books… I’ve upgraded.

Love this idea of a scratch journal. I think I may try this…I have so many open projects that it’s hard to complete anything. Also I have a question…I’ve seen on some of your other videos where you pre prep your daily journal with background, dates, and scraps of paper, but the other images you collect to add before journaling…do you go by a theme for those pages or are they just random magazine pics, etc.?

Yay, hope you love the scratch journal too. Way too many projects and never enough time, LOL. Yes I usually prep my pages ahead of time but I don’t typically go by a theme. I will look at color for seasons, and holiday months like October or December are usually themed but I will typically gather a stack of paper that I like, mix it all up and just start gluing. I am a pretty organized and controlled person but my art journals are the opposite I think the randomness of the colors and patterns make my journals more unexpected and fun.

@@KellyRoseCrafts-jg8mk that makes sense…I like the idea of prepping the papers ahead some. I think that’s where I’ve failed in the past…overthinking and trying to pick the things I want to put down and then by the time I get through all that I need a break before completing the page…lol

@@donnacross7953 Yes yes yes. There needs to be structure, and I like the photos to be from that day, everything else is frosting. If I know I am traveling I might put some generic stuff on those days, but getting it done is often better than getting it perfect. Hope you try pre-prepping your pages.

@@KellyRoseCrafts-jg8mk I like the term “frosting”…I’m gonna keep that in mind. I just returned from Hawaii this past week and want to journal it without getting overwhelmed. So your tips have been most helpful…thank you!

I just commented on your other video this is exactly how I do things. I’ve had a hard time trying to explain to others how it all works.
What journal brand is your scratch journal?

I recorded this a few times. it’s hard sometimes to articulate something that we do as second nature sometimes. I usually joust pick up random journals for my scratch, usually from Target or Barnes and Nobel. The cat one is GREEN inspired brand. The breathe mountains is Top Flight Inc. topflightbuy.com.

New subscriber here :) thanks for this video...wow, you are very detailed and organized! I never thought of keeping a scratch journal, but definitely I need one ;) I'm always behind on my daily journaling and sometimes I just have to skipped days because I just forget what was done that day. I also like the idea of taking pictures all the time. Do you save your old scratch journals too? also do you print your pictures on sticker paper or photo paper?

Thanks for subbing! These systems took time to create. With two kids I have limited time for projects. Efficency is key for me. Let me know if you try the scratch journal and like it. I do save my old scratch journals in a box in the attic because I am a paper magpie and can’t bear to throw them out… but honestly when I go back I look at my pretty journals and planners, not the scratch journal.
