Since they need incredibly powerfull psykers to fill their ranks there would even be a good reason for the emperor to create the geneseed to work for both genders. Other chapters can select a few outstanding individuals from hundreds of billions of citizens. Finding somewone who fits the gray knight criteria must be an absolute knightmare.
