The show is trying to save David this season. He was actually at his best in first episode of this reboot. I think they need to get David out of Harvard and give him a bit of a rebellion. Have him leave, and then maybe bring him back somewhat reformed. Or have him graduate. He should be out of college by now anyway

I agree, maybe have him go for a few episodes since he's barely in it anyway. Glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for your thoughts

I enjoy this show and think this was a great episode. David is still annoying, but used much less.

They need to find a good balance for his character because these last two episodes he's barely even been a footnote!

I just could not get into this episode much like the Ham episode. I thought episode 2 and 3 were the best so far.
Alan hissing at the baby and changing his mind about keeping a baby once they realized what it could get them was funny.
As for episode 4..The basic premise was there but I sat thru the episode and didn't laugh once.
The slapstick needs to be genuine. Alan isn't really known as a clumsy kinda guy. Now if Alan weren't available and Frasier was forced to take David.. I could have bought the slapstick in the office.
Amy sedaris.. another over acting guest star. You could have replaced her with anyone else and not lost anything.
I think the main thing is I just don't care about the whole Eve, Freddy, and the firefighter that died.. eves boyfriend. We are being asked to care about a character we've never met.
A better storyline would have been.. this guy was a drunken imbecile and left eve. They could have taken shots at him the entire series Ala Maris.
With a possibility of him returning down the line to reclaim his character. Eve would have to make a decision between this guy and Freddy or someone else.
Which brings me to David. They are wasting this character! Why even have him in the episode.
David could bring so much more to the table. People wanted niles and Daphne. And you have their son.. who has a history with them we don't know about.
They are using one of the only characters with a connection to the OG frasier as a throwaway character.
Freddy the other character with a connection to the OG series.. is wrapped up in a storyline about a firefighter we've never met in the show.
Frasier was best when he was a celebrity in his own mind. It allowed people to knock him down. That created hilarity.
Every guest star and new person in the show talks about how wonderful he is and how rich he is. Boring premise. He's rich. That's it.
They need to throw Freddy in with Olivia. An on again off again relationship.
Alan is one of my favorite characters so far because he doesn't overact, doesn't try too hard.
I don't feel like I'm watching an episode on Nickelodeon when watching him act.
I'm looking forward to the next several episodes. I read ahead and it appears they're going with a multiple episode storyline about Frasier potentially returning to Seattle for good. We shall see...

Thank you so much for your detailed thoughts! Love hearing what other Frasier fans think of the show. Episode 2 for me was so far the best of the season (and boy, I hope we see Patricia Heaton again... her and Grammer have such great chemistry)
I can agree with your idea of bringing David instead of Alan for the physical comedy scene, it would also give them a better use of David for this episode. He was barely in it. I agree about Amy Sedaris being played by anyone. With only 10 episodes, every episode doesn't need to have a guest star. I suppose that's why in my intro I said "another special guest," this is 3 episodes in a row we had a famous face not in the cast.
I agree that Alan is the best of the new characters. Every scene he adds something to. I think they got feedback from season 1 that David was annoying so they scaled him way back in season 2, but there are definitely ways to use him and they seemed to be finding those towards the end of season 1 (thinking of the Alan/David B-stories)
I like the story about the deceased firefighter but I can see where you're coming from. I think part of the problem is Eve is one of the least engaging characters so that might stem from her too.
Thanks again! Hopefully we get some good episodes moving foward
