BATTLETECH: The Juliano

- The most powered #HouseMarik #Battlemech of the #DarkAge and so far, the #ilclan era, the #Juliano is one of the meanest Assault-Mechs of its age.
In this video we are going to go over its origins within the #MarikCommonwealth, or the #MarikStewartCommonwealth, and its eventual return to the #FWL, or #FreeWorldsLeague. Built to fight other #InnerSphere powers, as well as the #Periphery, this almost nimble juggernaut, with its innovative technologies, is a real powerhouse to have to face down.
It just might be the great Amethyst Phoenix of the League, as the Eagle returns to prominence.

Great video Red!
“Niko! It’s me, your cousin Roman! Let’s us bring Glory to Marik with the Juliano!”
Thanks for clarifying that the Camerons weren't all gone or missing.
The Juliano very much reminds me of the MAD-9M, upscaled and equipped with Clan Technology.
Glory to the Free Worlds League and House Marik! Glory to the most based of Assault Mechs the Juliano!
"Screw House Marik! And also, glory to Marik!"
I'll stick with my Lyran Atlas
The Juilano is a vicious assault mech that makes excellent use of mixed tech, especially when it hits 12 hexes. Like many Marik designs, it's built as a team player, and pairs well with other 4/6 and 3/5 Marik staples such as the Awesome, the Stalker, the Battlemaster, the Alabatross, the Grand Titan, the Sirroco and the Longbow to name a few. The IS ER Large Lasers are designed for volley fire, firing in a 2/2/3 combo until it gets into close range.
This mech has everything I love. Speed for it's weight, SRM's 6 and Medium lasers backed by large lazers to kill Vtol's and cut the legs of light mechs. I wish this chassis was in MWO.
Probably one of my favourite assault mechs in terms of both asthenics and weaponry. The 3 ER large lasers give it good damage potential at longer ranges, but for me it truly shines at closer ranges as the 3 ER mediums combined with the quad streak SRMs are god damn vicious.
I noticed with the aesthetic, the Juliano’s “fins” remind me a little of the Eris’ partial wing (obviously not a Partiual wing in this case) but a similarity I picked out. Also had not noticed the strewn corpse of WoB Celestials in the background. All in all, great video!
I've never heard of this one, heading to Sarna...
The Juliano actually has given me a reason to play the ilclan era
I was going to say loot ER large lasers off of Wolf raids and throw the savings into heat sinks, but the 5C is also a very nice option.
This is a neat assault mech. Definitely very, very evil. It can do a lot of damage... Now, to see how I can fix that long range damage without resorting to Clantech.
Glory to Marik! Down with Marik!
The Chancellor disappointed in your lack of exports
Love the look of the juliano, and the lore behind it is better than most mechs. That XL engine kinda ruins it for me though. In an era where Gauss rifles and C-ER PPCs are a dime a dozen its a tough sell.
Great video, as always.
Thanks again!
Just found out this mech exists and I am already in love.
One of my favourite assault mechs of all time. Looking great, and backing it up too. Thank you for this great video about it!
YES, i was eagerly looking forward to this one. I wish the mech sees more action in the future. I also like how it appears in the novel that is a sequel to the first Battletech novel I read.
Which novel is it in?
Hunting Season.
@@BigRed40TECH thanks! 👍🏼
What a beast! Great work as always, Red.
“Amethyst Phoenix”! I like it!
That was a great vid. I really must get my Juliano painted and field it. The A and C are beasts in BT:AlphaStrike👍
The Juliano: I may not be one of the most efficient mechs ever. But I am one of the sexiest.
I know there's not a lot of information on it but God I wish we could get a video on the Bullshark
It's not planned at this time. It's backstory and function also don't really make a lot of sense, unfortunately. :\
0TECH I know it's apocryphal but I'm the rare one that likes it.
Clearly the designers were not asleep at the wheel or corrptly comprimised when they made this...unlike a number of other crimminaly designed mechs over the era's.
Grift and corruption means so much extra money to blow in Canopian space though.
The purple birb is always right!😂
Thanks for the review. I don't know if this Dark Age 'mech made it into clickytech armies. It's a real best, responding to the lesser amount of 'mechs in the canon era by making it fast and tough! Definitely the main power in a Dark Age combined arms force. Better speed than its size suggests, a decent spread of lasers for effective ranged combat, and a knockout punch of 4 Streak SRM 6
for anything that stands in its path at close range. The upgrade is one of the best in the game, since it only swaps the lasers for Clan variants, losing nothing in the process and gaining great range! :D This is definitely a must-have 'mech for the dedicated FWL army builder. To sum up, Purple Bird is still strong in 3145!
The Juliano didn't, as the Clix game never had the FWL in it, and this is a FWL exclusive mech.
@@BigRed40TECH I forgot that for story reasons the FWL didn't join everyone else in the mob rush into ROTS territory. So none of their new & improved designs were revealed for some years. Might as well go pick on the Lyrans then!
One of my top ten Mechs! I like to pair this beast with the Carronade for some reason. They just seem to go good together
It's a perfect example of Flea Worlds League technology.
I can't imagine the defenders of the hollowed-out Wolf Empire are happy seeing monsters like this rampage into "their" territory. Marik falls on Wolf like a giant, angry purple turkey, loud and irate, and the Juliano leads the charge.
Angrily gobbling its way to victory XD
@@BigRed40TECH Flapping its wings and gobbling furiously as it hops after a panicked wolf :D
So... Is it basically a FWL Shiro? Or is the Shiro basically a Julliano? 2 mechs named after their founder.
The Juliano is a 90-ton beat-stick monster, the Shiro is a 75-ton missile boat and melee combatant, and the Hanse is a 75-ton tank that really only good for killing other tanks and infantry.
Looks like a super deadly mech on paper, all those crit seekers!!
This thing is a beast. Reminds me very much of the Super Nova I used to ride, only nastier in close!

Purple Bird Strong, glory to house Marik
Seems to me like a very great Mech
Awesome work, Red and everyone who contributed. Thank you.
I've said before felt like a lot of the fwl clan invasion era wasn't very kind to assaults felt like they lacked focus and just liked their generalist designs. For assaults though it feels like specialization serves them well. Juliano gets back to this as a hunter killer assault. From playing it with my anzu and an modern crusader it seems to play very well with 4/6 heavies and will often over power then. Also feels like more than a match for lighter assaults its a mech the moment layer eyes on it ended up buying one. Just getting some one to play ilclan to try it out is all.
Hurray Captain General Big Red-40TECH!
Great video nice mech purple bird strong.
This was presented by PBS.
Purple Bird Strong, that is.
A great mech with a great metal model that you can set next to the new plastic ones no problem.
That -5C is a horrific monster, and the -5A is a nasty boy too. Just bring your tray of 2D6 dice in little dividers to roll all those missile to hit locations. Crit crit crit crit.
❤outstanding content
Gotta admit, I had never heard of this mech before at all but since it's dark age, that doesn't surprise me too much. My main exposure is through Battletech (by HBS) and the Mechwarrior games so it kind of stops in the 3040s and I'm slowly learning of the time beyond Operation Bulldog through these videos.
A thought on the JLN-5B. The inner sphere SRMs don't just cost you range, they also cost you damage as on average an SRM-6 will hit with just four missiles instead of the guaranteed six from a Streak SRM. On the bright side, you can load up variant ammunition including nasty tricks like inferno rounds and tandem charge warheads. It's also significantly cheaper in battle value.
Don't forget to include some record sheets Red. We're going to want to test that Roc for ourselves someday.
They're on the discord server. lol
Purple bird indeed stronk.
How did i miss this mech never heard of it.
I can't answer that for you lol
The FWL really just won't die. I suppose always potentially being in internal civil war creates that kind of durability. From the Longbow to the Juliano, they are responsible for some premier mechs
It shall never prosper, but it can never die. An undead mess of a state.
@@egoalter1276 Pffftt... Speak fer yerself. We in the FWL are always doing just fine. During the whole Clanner Invasion, remember that? 75% of the Inner Sphere was buying FWL built material to fight the Clanners... We racked in the cash. One slight hiccup like the Jihad isn't going to kill us off...
Haven't played one yet but sounds like it would be a fun one.
For the JLN-5A, pull out the ER Lasers for Light PPC's and add more double heat sinks and you get more BANG for your buck!
Might be restricted by critical in that instance, sadly.
@@BigRed40TECH Yea, your right, so we will pull out one ER Large Laser and add two more double heat sinks and two more tones of ammo for the SRM's!
5C is pretty nasty. Purple Bird strong.
Purple Bird Phoenix rises.
What a Monster, I shall procure one for my Cluster.
Hello Red.
I never faced the Juliano in battle on the tabletops. And, I've yet to face one or more of them since returning to the game setting. I have never gotten a hold of one either, since they are House Marik specialty Mechs.
I have looked at the 'stats' on the Mech, and I find them to be fairly good, overall. Although not something that would change a battle in one's favor at longer ranges, it is definitely an excellent Mech, up close and personal.
At 24 million C-Bills each, the Mech is a bit 'pricey' for my tastes, but I would not turn down obtaining one should it come my way and be available.
I would say that it is an overall, good Mech design... so long as you have access to Clan Tech. Changing the weaponry to all Clan Tech would benefit the design, but at the cost of making it more expensive overall, and more expensive to maintain and repair-replace. Also, if you are going to go 'all hog' on Clan Weaponry, you really should look into a replacement Engine, and go Clan Tech there as well.
Just my thoughts.
Huh. While talking about the 5A, you made a comment about the average damage roll from the missiles. However, the 5A uses streak systems. If the launcher hits, all missiles hit. That is what makes the 5A and especially the 5C so deadly.
This also significantly helps with the heat curve. You can fire all the SRMs on bad dice with a pair of the large lasers. If you miss, ah well. If you hit you spike your hear but you've also slapped someone for 50+ damage. Worth it every time.
Glory to Marik!
I really love the attention to detail that goes into the backgrounds of the Mechs and other vehicles in BT. However, it is this that is the reason I dislike the actual game. You have mechs like the Cyclops that, in lore, is billed as this great Command Mech, because of its communication suite, the targeting system on the Rifleman is supposed to be so good that it hasn't been upgraded in over 200 years, etc. However, none of this is actually reflected in the game. The Rifleman has no benefit over mechs, that, according to lore, have issues with their targeting systems. And the Cyclops is no more better a command mech then any other mech on the game board. Anyway, love your videos, keep up the good work!
They have the quirk systems in game now actually. It is somewhat reflected now. :)
The Cyclops has the "Command Mech" quirk, and the Rifleman has an Anti-Aircraft Quirk
@@BigRed40TECH That is true. However, it is a new addition to the game. And, as my friend, who runs our game, says it adds way too much to his plate to include. So, you are pretty much back at square one.
@@scottwalker6947 And thats fair, I'm just saying that Quirks have been in the game for a while now and are meant to reflect what your talking about :)
Another Great video! The Juliano is an amazing machine... seeing as I hate the Dark Age, I never knew anything about the era-specific mechs until you presented a few... thanks for broadening my horizon a bit... (Still hate the dark age though)
Thats fair lol. The mechs are still good XD lol
The Free Worlds League shines in the Dark Age with 'Mechs like the Juliano, Eris, Anzu, and Carronade
The Juliano looks like a Starcraft 2 Thor
Ye forgot Emris IV for Mech Manufacturing in the FWL... Other than that, this is FWLM approved I'd say. Glory to Marik and the Free Worlds League!
The video went over the manufacturing in the Marik Stewart Commonwealth, not the Oriente Protectorate. :)
Drop the large lasers for a HAG 20 or HAG 30, drop the SRMs for an MML 20. Much better heat levels and much better ranged dps. Keep the medium lasers.
HAG20 or 30.... with what crit space? You'd have to switch to clan DHS (and in the case of the HAG30, a Clan XL engine so that the HAG30 has enough room in the side torso) for that to make sense.
And even then, if you did choose the HAG20, and kept the IS XL engine, you'd end up with a machine that drops off the battlefield as soon as that HAG20 is crit, because in case you forgot, with Gauss based weapons you still have something that explodes. Only this time it's the weapon, not the ammo.
MML20... doesn't exist.
They go in steps of 2 from 3 tubes to 11.
So maybe 4 MML5's in the arms to add up to 20, that could work, but is still not as good on heat (or close range punch) as the usual 4 Clan Streak SRM6 (you lose 4 SRM tubes for the gain of 20 LRM tubes, that also weigh more than the Clan Streak SRM6 or IS SRM6).
Sorry, but you'll need to make more adjustments to make your intended changes work, and even then I'd argue that you end up with a lesser mech, that doesn't fit the available tech of the FWL like it needs to according to the lore.
I mean, does it need to have better long range dps? It's a medium/close range attacker. That's its intended role.
If you want a long range mech, I feel like use a long range mech
Purple Parakeet is strong!
Juliano turned out to be an incredibly well thought-out mech that made good use of both IS & Clan techs. It's like the next gen Awesome with a firepower more powerful than a Mad Dog. It should give the Woofs' mechs a run for the money.
Slava Mařík!
I love the Juliano, but it's painful to see an Inner Sphere Endo-Composite Chassis and Light Ferro-Fibrous Armor-just Endo Steel would save more weight and actually be cheaper to manufacture. The only benefit is it might lead to an easier upgrade to Clan-grade components, which take up the same amount of space. Technicron can mass produce Clan-grade Endo Steel for the Free Worlds League, so this may eventually happen.
Not every machine needs to be fully minmaxed to be fair.
@@BigRed40TECH that's true, but my point is it might be optimized for later upgrades to Clan-grade conponents rather than being the best that could currently be made-given its mixed-tech nature and how its variants swap back and forth with more or less Clan-grade components, that modularity between technological bases could have been a deliberate design choice.
You'll see more Clantech appearing as the timeline moves forward. the Juliano is from 3116, and while it may gets some refits, it's not had an overhaul yet.
@@BigRed40TECH I could be wrong, but it's interesting every Successor State now has some Clan-tech production capacity (Defiance for the Lyrans, Technicron for the League, former Nova Cat stuff for the Combine, and some things on New Avalon for the Suns)... except for the Capellan Confederation, which is arguably the most powerful state currently in the Inner Sphere but is I believe completely reliant on the Sea Foxes for any Clan-grade technology.
@@scytheseven9173 Yes, each House does, but they don't have all the technologies across all the ranges.
So for instance, the DCMS has more Clan Endo Steel. Steiner has XL engines. Davion has Clantech PPC's and all of them have some lasers. The FWL seems to have clantech missiles so far, and lasers.
MY TIME IS NOW!
You're the Battletech now!

PURPLE BIRD STRONG
Free World League Military is good. Not terrible like House Steiner and neither excellent like House of Davion. Just enough. I do hope they get better.
Same!
I´d love to salvage that. But it´s gonna be a pain. Uparmored cockpit and XL engine? I mean you can downgrade the weapons but keeping all the other parts intact gotta be so bloody painfull. I wonder if that´s on purpose.
Was the real Tomas Marik the same from Ideal war or was that the double?
That will be a dangerously close fight in a duel with a FLS-10E. I dislike the idea of having to survive simply on the reflective armor, way too close for comfort. I've learned over the years to respect the SRM, this would be the undoing of the younger me.
I like how the mech looks, but it doesn´t commit to a clear line of technology, which will be a major headache for logistics.
With the large lasers and it´s 16 DHS, it will have to fire 3-2-3-2 in order to avoid overheating while moving. Shouldn´t be much of an issue, given how high the lasers are placed.
That should even allow it to shoot over many obstacles. Overall a very impressive mech, the fact that it fires heat neutral in short range makes it an excellent brawler.
3 in one turn + moving will drop its movement rating.
@@BigRed40TECH But it would still allow for at least a slow approach while keeping up firing, and hopefully damaging the opponent.
Though in this case the IS lasers are slightly weaker with only 8 instead of 10 points of damage per hit.
Might as well just move all the way in to get in brawling distance, that is, unless even IS ERLLs have a range advantage.
Of just fire two as long as you approach...
And here I thought the FWL was just the arms factory for the the real warrior states…😝
A good inner sphere assault mech. The base model's IS ERLL's are questionable. High heat, middling damage, comparable range to a standard PPC. In the case of a Juliano, why not go old school and just use standard PPCs? Take out the 3 ERLL's, slap in 2 PPCs and you've lost 1 range, 1 damage gained 1 ton, and you have a minimum range of 3 on the PPCs... which you would never use if an enemy was that close anyways. Oh, and you can freely fire your 2 PPCs and never worry about the heat. As a matter of fact, drop 1 ERML and you can slap in 2 PPC Capacitors which cause you no heat problems and give a decent performance boost at a low cost. That right there would be my 2 suggestions for easy, cheap Juliano variants that don't break the tech barrier.
E: -3 ERLL, +2 PPC, +1 ton armor.
F: -3 ERLL, -1 ERML, + 2 PPC, +2 PPC Capacitor.
Infernos, anyone?
Also, me no like [to face in a clean fight].
Also - again - hate having to repair pitted armor & redo paint jobs [provided I survive running into this, or any, assault mech].
So what I heard was drop the ex lasers and add 2 ppcs and a heat sink?
THen its not a Juliano :)

Rip out the 3 ER Large lasers, put in two light PPCs, a heat sink, an extra ton of ammo. With the left over space, upgrade the torso laser to pulse model and add a targeting computer.
Might not have the critical space tbh.

@BigRed40TECH Where do you get the faction insignia assets from? A few of them look like something that I would be interested in commissioning for art onto a T-shirt.
You don't have to average rolls for Streak missiles unless the enemy has Angel ECM-if you get a target lock, they all hit (barring AMS). They count as having rolled an 11 on the cluster hits tables for AMS, though Angel ECM makes them work as regular missiles and roll on the table normally.
