The first beat is filled by the kick drum alone and then the next two beats are filled by the bass and piano; it's as if the kick is somehow silencing (or 'ducking') the other two instruments. What a spectacular effect!
Whilst I don't think that they have, they could have just done that live. There's a band called Submotion Orchestra that have a LOT of amazing processing done live, including side-chain compression on the bass, triggered by a kick.
