Nottingham Attacks: Families Say They're 'TRAUMATISED' By Leaked Police Messages

- The mother of one of the Nottingham attack victims has written an open letter to members of a police WhatsApp group in which a message was posted describing her son as being “properly butchered”.
Emma Webber, the mother of Barnaby Webber, 19, who with Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, was stabbed to death by Valdo Calocane, has written to the Nottinghamshire Police officer who she says posted graphic details of the victims’ injuries in the chat group.
Calocane, 32, carried out the fatal stabbings with a dagger in Nottingham in the early hours of June 13 last year, and attempted to kill three others.
In January he was given an indefinite hospital order for manslaughter by diminished responsibility, after Nottingham Crown Court heard he had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Mrs Webber has shared an open letter to “the WhatsApp group of police officers who discussed the attack” as she has been denied the opportunity to speak to the group “privately and anonymously”, she said.
Mrs Webber said the “callous, degrading and desensitised manner” of the comments has caused “more trauma than you can imagine”.

They are attacking the disabled, yet 65% of new claims are from migrants and thier claims are being fast tracked because they allegedly come from war torn countries and have mental health problems, this from a whistle blower at dwp
And the police officers who dealt with the investigation have to deal with such scenes of such evil attacks and murders, they see this sort of thing everyday, so they do what many in such a situation would do they use brutal language to describe a scene, butchered in terms of a homicide isn't an abnormal term. They'll also use dark humour to deal with what they see every day, the worst humanity can offer, so I'm sorry if it's hurt the families feelings but this how the police operate, you are not going to change that when it's a coping mechanism to do the job. Police who investigate murders regularly use the term victim, not the name of the victim, it's a distancing mechanism, it's something they can't actually help because they do it due to the trauma of dealing with such things every day.
I'm sorry but those offended should go and work in a morgue for a week, see how they cope with dealing with death all day everyday with the odd homicide thrown in for good measure.
They werent being disrespectful they just said what happenes in plain language. It's awful that this lady lost her son but cry bullying the police isn't going to help anything

When arguments and disagreements flare, you TALK IT OUT rather than resorting to attacking each other physically.

The real question here is why were the messages leaked?
People in high stress jobs need an outlet to talk openly and in confidence, they need to be able to make inappropriate comments and dark jokes in a private setting, it's a well known and common thing for people in this type of job to do, it's very important pressure release valve, ask anyone who has served in the military about dark humour.
I am sure all emergency services are traumatised by these incidents too.They have their outlets to deal with this as the armed forces do.This mother is being an attention seeker.
Why don’t they show a picture of the attacker?
I think the use of "proper" was probably to convey emphasis to their actual physical state.
Textual information can be quite vague, and all vagueness has to be thoroughly mitigated in serious situations.

Messages on WhatsApp groups are meant to be private so sorry but the mother should perhaps have kept her nose out of other people's private communications?
Or she should try to understand why it's police use such language, she'll find they do so as a means to deal with what they see everyday, because it's traumatic dealing with the afternoon a killer. It's traumatic seeing a butchered body, it's deeply traumatic hearing the wails of a mother as she's told her child is dead.
I feel for this family but they're starting to irritate me they going through the grief process in public, it seems at the moment they're in the anger stage. I don't she the older gentlemans family coming out every fives mins.
Police should NOT be permitted to discuss work incidents on Social Media.
