      @@tcs20264 hopefully your question has been answered but I^2 = sqrt(-1) so if i square a square root it cancels so it's just negative 1 so b^2i^2 =b^2(-1) = -b^2

    We got a^2+4=0
    a^2=-4 (as i^2=-1)
    We can replace a^2=4i^2
    And a=+-2i.
    So we got imaginary number +-2i

    Although the result may be interesting, isn’t the reasoning up until you sub in values of (a) to get values of (b) only valid if (a) and (b) are real? In other words, a^2 +4 cannot be factorised over the real plane, and thus the other result although coincidentally correct, uses invalid logic to acquire it.

      yea there is
      just split the complex number in a perfect square as the square of a complex number can be represented as a^2 - b^2 +- 2abi
      the given complex number in the video 5 - 12i can be written as 9 - 4 +2(3)(2)i which is 3^2 - 2^2 - 2(3)(2)i which is (3-2i)^2 so you get the answer directly in like 15 seconds

    Is it nessesary to take the first value of a as real number and if yes so the second value is always a imaginary number isit?

    • @MathematicsTutor
      @MathematicsTutor  5 років тому

      We started with a + bi, so b is the imaginary part and a is the real part. a = 3 or -3; Find b for these values. to get the result.
      Later half is showing that the result will not change even if you use a as 2i. Ignore it, if it creates confusion.
