I can hear the voice actors, sound effects, and orchestra in my head just looking at these pages. This version of Batman is very near and dear to my heart.
Got it early on Monday and could not put it down since! I started to rewatch the animated series episodes in between reading it and playing the ost on the background when reading. It truly feels like a continuation of the series! Great way to keep Kevin Conroy, Arleen Sorkin and other voice cast members who have passed away alive by revisiting these stories.❤
Oh man... this is a beautiful collection of gorgeous, cartoon-y superhero art. Fingers crossed this stays in print long enough that I can snag it for Christmas!
This was a wonderful review. This whole omnibus brings back so many memories of me watching the show as a kid. Oh gosh, I loved the show so much growing up. That was my first introduction to Batman, Robin, Batgirl, etc. I'm hoping the pre-order and re-order numbers are good enough for DC to print the other Batman comics in omnibus format.
So this looks amazing especially because of the layout always having the front cover on right hand side so you feel like your actually reading the actual comics. I wish all omnibus and masterworks editions followed this layout format.
Love the art in this one - a refreshing change from many other Omnis. You have convinced me and I have ordered this one. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Been looking forward to this one for 3 decades now! I did also want to mention that writer Michael Reaves (TMNT, Real Ghostbusters, Gargoyles) also passed away earlier this year. In addition to his novels, live action work and writing for Batman TAS, he also came up with the story for issue 21 of Batman Adventures and co-write on Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, such as the scene were Bruce pleads with his parents at their grave site that when he made the promise to avenge them at Batman, he didn't count on ever being happy.
This will go well with my X-Men Adaptations omnibus. Great nostalgia, art, and stories in these collections! Mad Love and Mask of The Phantasm are worth it alone!
I collected this run as it was coming out. At least the issues I could afford as a broke elementary age child buying comics with my lunch money lol. I remember being amazed that this was running alongside the cartoon and the main comics. I was trying to save some money because I have the trades but as soon as you opened that beautiful book and flipped through a few pages, I just had to go ahead and order a copy. How can I love Batman and not double dip.
I’m so excited to see this book is finally out! Great overview of the book. Mike Parobek was an awesome artist, you should check out his JSA and El Diablo work too.
I bought and still have and reread all of the comics collected in this edition. It is without doubt one of the best Batman books ever put out by DC and is somehow a tribute and a love letter to every era of the character from the noir crime early days to the modern Dark Knight. It has impeccable script clarity and clear, linear visual storytelling. In short, it is good old fashioned comic books. I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't read these before. Buy it and fall in love with the character all over again. An absolute classic series.
@@Yoko.Kurama Mostly tightly plotted, single issue stories with occasional two parters that managed to hit all the right notes of characterisation and drama in the same way comics did when they were new and exciting, before companies realised they could sell multiple issue arcs that stretched stories out to absurd lengths to resell afterwards as trade paperbacks. I'm not a Batman fan, but I just had to get this. I knew Mike Parobeck (what an awesome guy who appreciated his fans) and loved his work so absolutely needed this in my collection. Even working on a custom omni of his work to include some letters he wrote me on copies of his pencils. He is greatly missed!

"This characters are supposed to act in a certain way", "It doesn't matter the stories they are in as long as they stay true to the character". Words every writer that works nowadays for Marvel or DC should respect (especially Tom King)
"Characters act a certain way" you mean how they were from your childhood with no reinvention. Keeping the characters exactly the same makes stories stale buddy. Also that's not what Omar said. He said characters have intrinsic traits that should remain the same but characters should be allowed to change and evolve with the times. Writers are allowed to reinterpret characters bud.
Writers need to have the characters change somewhat in order to tell more exciting stories. Writing them the same way for decades makes them stagnant buddy. Like it or not the writers at DC and Marvel are great. You have to reinvent characters put them in new situations. As long as you keep the core of the characters. Tom King is great at that. Tom King's supergirl woman of tomorrow is a perfect example of this.
Omar is a fan of Tom King. He literally praises him all the time. This channel loves Tom King. Are you really going to insult Near Mint Condition like this?
@@akkakkakekkn "characters have intrinsic traits that should be the same but characters should be allowed to change and evolve with times" it's something i can agree with but as you said there should be some intrinsic traits, a core that remains the same during time, Tom King operates what can best be described as character assassination from Wally West to Martian Manhunter or Riddler. Let's try for example Riddler shall we? Riddler is a Batman's villain created by Bill Finger himself, when the character was created he was a crook that used riddles and games during his robberies but the fact is that these riddles where not some sort of call card or something like that, they were a sign of his own compulsion, he needs that people know that he, the Riddler, committed the crime...pretty deep stuff for a character born in the Golden Age. Now a great writer what would do with a character like that? He would expand on the aspects that made this character unique and would stay true to the character (if the character is good like in this case): Chuck Dixon is this type of writer. He expanded on the character of the Riddler as no one else, writing stories like the 3 parts of lethal pursuits and questions multiply the mistery, Edward became the Riddler because he lacked attention when he grew up, he wasn't beaten by his father or his mother died or something like that, they simply didn't care too much for him, in school he wanted to be special, to be noticed but even there with the bullies and such he had to remain in the shadow, he forced himself to remain a nameless nobody in order to not be bullied, then riddles arrived, a simple puzzle became the chance for Edward to become famous and he did, cheating, because he craves attention so desperately that he has no bound and, in order to complete the puzzle before the others, sneaks in the school during the night, goes to the teacher's desk where the puzzle is kept and completes it over and over again until he can complete it in something like 5 minutes, he obtains what he wanted and the next day he becomes famous in front of the class and even if this will led to him being bullied the sensation he feels is so much better but he grows up being a nobody and, after some time he snaps and becomes the Riddler. Chuck Dixon perfectly understood the character and wrote stories that respected the original material as well making the character even better. Tom King doesn't do that, he doesn't mantain any intrinsic traits in these characters except the purely superficial ones, in Killing Time, Riddler One Bad Day and the War of Jokes and Riddles he wrote Edward as a psycopath that loves to torture people and even has a series of registers to keep track of all people he wants to torture, he doesn't need to use riddles because for him they're just a gimmick and kills people without problem...where are his "intrinsic traits" buddy? He is a completely different character, riddles are not a gimmick, that's the whole reason he is sent to Arkham because he has a COMPULSION to use riddles, he is not brutal and doesn't like torture that's something Joker would do and that's the key problem: Tom King writes Riddler as a discount version of Joker. So no buddy, Tom King is not a good writer he is a pretentious writer that lives so much in Alan Moore's shadow even in his own head that the Riddler in Riddler One Bad Day literally says that the Killing Joke was his plan and not Joker's, i've not insulted Omar, i've literally agreed with something he said.
