    Back in the early '60s, I had a six transistor radio that was a tad deaf. Fooling around with it one day, I held it up to the telephone hanging on the wall and it jumped to life. It simply coupled to all that copper and became really hot. Nighttime DX became phenomenal. The good old days.

      Believe it or not in the 60's I did the same thing. I might have been around 10 years old. I also had
      a crystal radio shaped like a Rocket. The top of the rocket had a small rod that adjusted the frequency.
      I did the same thing with the antenna for the Crystal radio Rocket. It was all magic back then.

    Turn it at right angles to your radio and it will work even better.

    You should try turning it tonight by 90 degrees while tuned to 1010 to switch between WINS and CFRB.

    I own the Terk Advantage, Select-a-tenna and this AM loop antenna. I can tell you that this antenna is the best AM loop antenna out there for the price. I DXed many MW stations using this antenna. It inspired me to build my own. I know you will enjoy this antenna. I look forward to your MW DX catches. :)

    This antenna works great with radios using smaller ferric rods, the smaller the rod, the greater the improvement

    Ciao Gilles,
    sorry but the receiver must be crossed with the loop not in the way you show it ... the "belly" of the loop must be close to the ferrite of the receiver in this way you have the maximum induction ...
    A greeting.
    Giuseppe.

    I’ve had this antenna for a couple of years.
    Works fantastic on most radios.
    Does not work on my Tecsun PL390.
    And another radio, But on all others works fine.
    It DOES work on one of my tube radios, but have not tried it on my others.
    For the price, it’s hard to beat. Well worth the price.
    Very cool radio,too.

    Just got mine today and it is great. Earlier this week I spotted a 500W daytime station about 50 miles away that is audible but difficult to understand. Immediately after unboxing my AN-200 I tried it on that station and it increased the signal strength on my Crane Skywave SSB from one to two "S" units to at least five and gave clear copy. Yeah, anxiously waiting for tonight!

    The antenna is strongest in-plane and the radio's ferrite rod is strongest out of plane, so you need to orient the antenna perpendicular to the radio.

    • @jaimesk1688
      @jaimesk1688 Рік тому

      Worth mentioning...I see examples where the axis of the loop is not parallel to the axis of the radio ferrite bar. Although,,, the loop can be used to null out interference.

    • @Mesa_Mike
      @Mesa_Mike 4 місяці тому

      Align the axis of the loop to be parallel with the axis of the windings on the internal ferrite bar and rotate the radio and antenna together as if they were one unit. A lazy-susan is a good tool for this. This will result in max nulling of pest stations.

    Hello! I have one of these also and I am always amazed by the inductive coupling to the radio's internal ferrite core antenna. I agree with several of the posts below, that the axis of the radio's ferrite core should be parallel to the loop's axis, which would mean if the radio is facing you, in like manner the loop's knob should be facing you with the loop on the side of the radio which is closest to the radio's ferrite core. The loop and the radio's ferrite core can be thought of as a cylinders of wire. Both cylinders should face the same direction for the best coupling. Sorry if I went around the hedge too many times! Great video and enjoy your new toy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The best placement is at a 90 degree angle, not the parallel angle you had it at. Makes a huge difference.

    Will make weak radios perform vastly better. I have a GPX 300RS (cheap digital-readout armband radio). The internal noise messes up AM. The tuned loop can make the internal noise almost disappear, increase sensitivity. And..sharing the loop with a good analog radio gives you a fantastic frequency-readout meter! Makes old 2-6 transistor radios shine.

    I want to buy one of those. Where can I get one? But I'm with the BDS and therefore boycott Amazon. Anyone shipping to Scandinavia, please, preferably from a EU country to avoid unnecessary import fees that may be spent on detrimental politics. Sorry for politicised comment content, I know you're very professional regarding such stuff, but it's just who I am. None of my dirt to spill onto your fine engagement on YT. Love from Denmark! Well Sweden actually but now I'm in Denmark. If you host one of your fine shows tonight I hope to be able to join.

    I've got that same antenna from Grundig. I thought I would have to plug it in. If that works it would be great. But unfortunately it only works on MW not SW. So it's no help to me. Thanks for the video. I'm getting back into radio after a long hiatus. I am a Ham operator license for 30 year this year. 😎👍

    Great demonstration. I always find your video indispensable and accurate. Did you ever try plugging in in your outside antenna into your Tecsun an-200 loop antenna. It's amazing how well this works. Basically, I turned on my smaller Eton traveler receiver and my Grundig field receivers with both their antenna folded inward. There was only a very weak and poor signal with a lot of noise coming from both receivers. As soon as I plugged the outdoor antenna into the small Tecsun loop antenna both radios came to life. I'm not sure what you call this antenna reversal but WOW does it work well. That's how I now use my long wire antenna which is set up outside. By plugging that long wire into the tecsun loop which is on my desk next to all my receivers, everything on my desk gets this fairly big boost of Gain with a good reduction in noise which is very noticeable.. Its almost like having every radio plugged into an individual outdoor antenna. I still use a outdoor loop which is fantastic for my big receiver. Did you ever try this Gilles?

    Quite pleased with mine for MW but I thought I'd experiment. I have a homemade magnetic loop antenna (not for TX) and i replaced the innerloop with this. This meant i could tune the outer loop with the capacitor on that and further refine with the dial on the inner loop. It did seem to work out looking at the set's meter, but the outer loop is smaller than it should be so not quite right for the HF band i was trying out, so ultimate signal received could have been better.
