Every time I turn on or watch a video of this receiver, I love it more
I just ordered this radio. I hope the AM band works properly. After ordering I saw review after review saying AM was weak. I`m trying to get my hands on as many analog radios as possible while they`re still made.
I suggest, once tuned the antenna, place it, not only on one side, but also behind the receiver, near the ferrite antenna and moving it so that you can locate the sweet spot. Each receiver has one sweet spot for that. Thanks for sharing
What a combination ‼️
I’d spend many all-nighters with that set up. 🙂📻🙂📻🙂‼️👍
It is a cool setup. Easy to tune and good selectivity. A winner.

The 9700 will be here in about 12 hours. Can't wait to try it out with the AN 200 loop. Should be a good DX'er.
Hi Richard, did you get the radio? How are you liking it?
Very impressive. Haven't spent quite enough time with it yet, but I think it's worth the money. @@lonnieclemens8028
That is supper fun pulling in those faint stations.
Just got this radio delivered to me today. You are right that this radio performs well and it couples very nicely with my Terk AM loop antenna. This radio is so much fun. I am getting very natural sounding voice on AM. This is a very good AM program listening radio. Quality of the 9700 AM sounds much better than my Grundig G5 which sounds off being somewhat nasally and not so natural. Could be the filters that the G5 is using on AM because it sounds great on FM. I also am getting good sensitivity on SW. Right now I am using the 9700 to listen to Art Bell Somewhere in Time.
Good Show! Glad you are enjoying this radio..probably a last of its breed. Not many analog radios coming to the market these days.
@@todderbert One of my fantasy radios would be a combination of this radio and the now discontinued Kaito 1107 which I also own. The 9700DX is the better performer of the two with much less imaging and splatter of strong local stations even though the 1107 is dual conversion. But the 1107 has a backlit digital clock with alarm which is so cool. Its 3 way attenuation and tone switch are on the front of the radio along with the power and light switch. Also the volume dial with scale is on the front of the radio. And a real tuning knob.
Nice test of the loop. That c crane pocket holds it's own!
Thank you. No kidding about that Pocket, only a few radios here or there seem to best it on occasion. The 9700DX does have very good legibility on faint stations. I am liking that a lot at the moment.
Where stacked stations 🚉 are, that’s what ya call 📱 radio 📻 station 🚉 “ghosting” 👻. That usually happens at night, or in fringe areas. Your friend, Jeff.
This was very enjoyable and relaxing to watch, thank you!
I’ve ordered this radio.
Tecsun Radio model numbering scheme is somewhat confusing and misleading. One would think R9710 is a better radio than R9700, but no. Similarly one would think PL380 is better than PL330, but again no. Then there is PL606, one would believe it is better than PL600??? Again, no. And I'm sure there are plenty other examples. Feel free to chime in and add your own examples to the list...
I’m enjoying this radio very much! I commented on your other video about this Tecsun. My scale is about 20kHZ off on the + side. Yours seems almost dead on; that being, say, 800 CKLW is dead center on the 800. For that, mine lands at the top of 800 for CKLW. No biggie .. just mentally compensate for it. All frequencies about the same, 1000khz is at the top of 1000, etc.
I have both the Tecsun R-9700DX and the Tecsun AN-200 Loop Antenna.
I am using it at work indoors, and it is "terrible"!
I am able to only receive 1 AM channel. The loop antenna helps with the clarity on this 1 channel, but that's about it.
Unfortunately, FM isn't that great either. 🤔😔
Most Office/Warehouse/Work Environments are challenging for a Radio. FM is about your best bet, or be by a Window near an outside wall. AM is usually a no go. Computers, LED, Florescent Lighting, ect.
I know this is an older post Todd but I just ordered this 9700dx I have a Eton elite executive and just last night I was getting WHO in Des Moines from my home in Cullman Alabama just the antenna no loop or other added means!!!
Nice catch, the Eton Executive is a wonderful radio.
@todderbert yes im impressed with the performance...my next is a sangean ats 909x2 I'm getting from ebay. And I found the c crane twin coil antenna per your videos I appreciate you
@@alabamared2568 The Twin Coil is Excellent for AM Reception in tough RFI environments.
I like this radio. Decent quality for the price and good performance.
But........
The tuning know is a bit touchy. You need to be careful and move it in tiny, precise jerks. If it had a better knob, and was easier to tune, I'd give this radio a 5 STAR rating.
610 could be WTVN from Columbus, OH.
To be honest, I still didn't understand these "dancing with a tambourine". In my opinion, this passive antenna does not give much. Thanks for the video.
I've moved to a Terk Advantage Passive loop, it gives excellent results with many radios. Larger radios may not benefit. Most users hook them up to stereo systems.
@@todderbert Thank you, my friend 🤝
R-9012 or 97000dx? which one would you keep if you can only have one?
R9700DX
@@todderbert perfect! mine just arrived!
whats this other little radio you using to check the tecsun?
C.Crane CC Pocket
Dear Todderbert, I like your videos on this radio. Do you recommend it for daily use, or bed side radio. Thanks
It can be both. Having the AC adapter is nice. It also has a pleasant tone to it. I also appreciate the lighting of the dial.
Did you ever try the select a tenna ? I find it better than the an-200. They can be purchased on ebay for 20.00.
I have a Select a Tenna, purchased after making this video. I like it but find it is marginally better then the AN-200. I do like the fact the Select can feed the AN-200 in a tandem config. Works well.
Hey Todderbert, I think I may ruined have my new 9700DX during MW testing with a Tecsun AN200.😭
It got a very very strong interference during tuning the AN200, the radio was sensitive enough.. didn't need a passive loop. Now it gets only locals and some powerful semilocals.
I have not heard of a passive loop causing damage to a radio, check your daytime stations.
I know that they are not in the same price class but how does the reception of the 9700DX compare to the cheaper Tecsun R 912 ?
Much better, the dual conversion for one is a welcome addition on shortwave.
KYW 1060?
