always a blessing to see a fellow woodworker in CHRIST!!! Outstanding job on setting up your shop. Praying that you will find another one just as nice when you move.
I have a huge workshop for many years and my machines are all from my grandfather. You just make me realise how amazing is having something from my granddad. You did an amazing job in that 2 car garage. Congrats 🙌
Love the frugal hacks that don’t compromise for usability or function. Keep the videos coming man. Let’s see time tool restorations and more $500 chain mortiser finds!
Nice tour! I see you have a different take on bandsaws than I assumed from your other video 😏😏. The star of this one is that chain mortiser!! I think I’ve only seen one other on UA-cam, in Mike Farrington’s shop. I’ve been using one for almost fifty years 😀😀. I think they’re a largely unknown, but hugely versatile tool. In our shop we occasionally build large poplar frames, that take drop-in panels. The chain mortiser is awesome for that.
Wow that's so cool! I'm still learning to use mine. Can I reach out for tips when I get settled into my new shop and start using it more? Any way I can reach you on social media or something? I have a few specific questions. Thanks for watching..
Great video. Amazing shop. I started woodworking a few months ago. No experience at all. Just was too cheap to buy a coffee table, ended up making one and loved the process. Good luck to all in the journey!
Great video Joel, such a great collection of tools, it’s great to see how much thought and planning has gone into your shop setup. God has really blessed your work and your efforts! Thanks for the very detailed tour, keep making videos, they’re great 👏🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Wow! That is an impressive shop. You have acquired a ton of tools in such a short amount of time. I look forward to your future videos. Welcome to UA-cam
If your videos continue to be of the same quality as this one, I will definitely watch them. You have an awesome shop. I look forward to seeing what you end up with as a result of your move.
Tour is well done. We have to make due with what we have and looks like you are making the best of the space you have at this time. Good luck with your move and hoping you can get a bigger shop since you said you wanted one.
Very nice shop and you have some great tools for someone who has not been at for very long. Having your grandfather's lathe is a blessing. My dad has been gone for 43 years now and I still have his jig saw and circular saw that I will use sometimes just because I know he used them.
I really like your shop. You’ve put lots of thought in it. Only one thing I wasn’t crazy about, the table saw dust collection. It would be a distraction for my vision though, likely not for you. Proud you have found the love of woodworking. It’s very rewarding.
Yeah, I agree. One strategy I use is just to make sure fingers don't go past the blue piece (obviously). At some point I'd like to get this though: www.thesharkguard.com/products/
Hi Joel, you have some beautiful tools and an amazing space you have built. You can see in your face how much you enjoy and love your tools. Your workshop would be described as pretty big here in the UK, definitely not small 😅 that's the biggest difference between Canada and the UK we are crammed in like sardines 😂 looking forward to more content from you.
@williamswoodntools I'm from Yorkshire so not keen on the hustle and bustle of London lol I lived in Canada for a year or so, Medicine hat and Calgary😀
You've got a heck of a setup there in such a short period. I've been doing it as a hobby and a profession (for someone else) since the early 90's and still don't have a set up as nice as yours. The one easy thing I believe you should always be doing with a table saw is keeping a riving knife installed if you got one. If you don't have one, make one. There's no excuse not to because it does so much good. Good luck with your future craft endeavors!
Wow, that’s such a great shop with some unique tools as well! Well played with your choice of Metabo HPT. Their multi volt platform (with AC adapter option too) looks very promising. I’m into the Worx 20V platform but if I’m ever switching I’d definitely consider Metabo.
Great tour -- I hadn't thought much about the height of tools to maximize longer board work. I think about height of benches a lot since I'm only 5'6" but only for my ease of work... now long board work will be part of my thought process. Thanks a bunch!
Great video it's nice to hear the stories behind the machines. I have some of my Dads hand tools and i really enjoy using them on projects. Keep the videos coming when you can. Steve. Aus.
Hi Joel, Thanks for sharing your shop! I love the awesome old tools They are built with so much quality you just need to maintain them and keep them going. I also love the windows in your shop for the added light. I agree shop tours are great to share they really give you some fresh ideas. I’ve done two so far on my channel and I’m ready to do another it seems like I’m doing one every four years I’m always looking for a way to create space for new tools and manage workflow. Looking forward to following along! Wishing you all the best in 2024, and much continued success with your channel! Make it a great day!! 😎👊
Thanks Walt! I actually watched your 2019 shop tour video a while back. You make beautiful stuff! Agree about the old tools, I plan to replace everything with old quality tools eventually. Just a matter of finding the right ones used and cleaning them up. Cheers
Thanks Joel for checking out my shop tour 2019. I hope it was helpful to you as well. Definitely subscribed to your IG page and UA-cam channel. Looking forward to see your new content!
Great video. I like how thoughtful you are about your shop layout. I built a dedicated 16x20ft shop for myself so I definitely appreciate shop layout and work flow! Hope to see more.
FYI, I have the same Bosch miter saw and bought a dust shroud from Shop Nation and it is awesome, so another option, he has them for many other saws as well.
Great video Joel, keep it up. Love all the old machinery, especially the chain-drive mortise. I moved to Blackstock to get my stand-alone shop. (Only someone from PortPerry is going to know where that is)
Great video, I'm jealous, I have a 3 car garage, but I can only use 1. I usually have to move one of the cars out to set up my woodworking equipment for a couple of days.
I recently sold my Powermatic chain mortiser, same as yours. I didn't notice the gravity feed oiler on top of yours that lubes the chain. That sure was a loud machine.
For someone just starting out you can tell that you have spent a lot of time thinking things through. As always with me a good shop tour gets a subscribe. However we all need some videos in the future now. Heed Rob Cosman's advise - It is hard to make money as a woodworker alone - assuming you do not have 10 children like he did. So UA-cam should be a good choice for you. Good work, converses well, good machinery and good shop - you have most already. Need more hand tools and planes though.
You’ve done a great job getting started in such a short time. I like the hose over your table saw. I’ve been up grading my dust collection as well and have never seen anything like that. I saw the link but was wondering how well it collects the dust from the saw blade? Thanks.
Awesome to see a Canadian woodworking channel. I've just started out in Vancouver in my garage about a third the size of yours so been finding used benchtop size machines mostly. Did you have to overhaul your electrical to run all those machines? I put a dedicated 120v outlet in my shop on it's own circuit which has been a HUGE improvement.
Yes I did. I had a whole segment about it but we cut it from the video. Put a 220 sub panel in the garage. I have about 7 220 outlets in there now. Essential.
Jealous. 120 is good for me though since I don't have the physical space for machines that would run off 240... nor do I have the disposable income lol, still just at hobby level novice
That's a great idea. Maybe I can do that once I get settled into my new shop. Do you have any specific questions about them? Happy to answer. I've used several craftex machines that aren't in the video. DM me on Instagram if you wanna chat (or reply here). @williamswoodntools
@@williamswoodntools An honest feedback on the pros and cons. How reliable are they, is there any issues with the electrical or mechanical systems, etc. for example, on your planer is there any traces of snipe? Does it bog down at all on wide hardwood?
What is the diameter of the PVC pipe for the dust collection? I’m strategizing dust collector set up at my place and trying to decide whether 4 inch PVC with a few turns in it will be adequate.
Yep, mine is 4" and its adequate. 4" PVC is the most affordable and efficient option. Going up to 5" or bigger doesn't add enough value to make the extra cost worth it imo.
@@williamswoodntoolsyes, it's an awesome video. I am actually not very far from you (used to fishing in port perry during weekend) and also interested in woodworking.
You did this in just 3 years!!! Standing ovation... inspiring video, thank you.
Thanks!
You've got a lot of big tools in three years. Way to go.
Thanks! I break it down a bit more in my shop tour video, if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/cY6LJDOwiVY/v-deo.html
Cinematography was on point. Cool shop.
Thanks! My guy @cameronlin is an awesome videographer.
Awesome shop. you got some nice industrial tools. 3 years, you're just getting started. That's awesome.
Thanks!

love the lighting, love the machinery. Love it all. Welldone!
That chain mortiser is quite a find. I’ve only seen portable ones. Great for Timber framing.

I've never seen a mortiser like that. So cool.
It's extremely cool. Planning a video down the road about it. Not too much "chain mortiser" content out there...
That's an amazing shop for only 3 years

I liked the rolling clamp rack you tuck underneath your table saw wing.
