Make sure to play the other games outside GOW1,2,3 before moving to god of war 4. God of war chains of olympus, god of war ghost of sparta and god of war ascenion. Those games have alot of information about the lore and character build up. Very important games. Also aside from that they are ton of fun specially chains of olympus and ghost of sparta. Ascension is a bit weaker, but still worth to play. Order of the games is. Gow 1, Gow 2, Chains of Olympus, Gow 3, Ghost of Sparta, Ascension, Gow4, Gow Ragnarök.
Two words, block parry, this game HEAVILY emphasizes on it even more than the first game. Also, in many ways, this game is a breeze to get through thanks to a lot of the fluff from progress halting death trap puzzles and platforming sections being scaled down, but some pretty obscure puzzles that you might linger on too long and odd difficulty spikes in places I can see being frustrating to new player's. The latter, especially because there's one segment right before one of the end bosses that I still to this day have a bit of a rough time getting through with just how much they throw at you (I'll bring it up if/when you get there). Play the other god of war the story gets filled in on them before god of war 3. I think its worth it if your wanting to learn more about kratos and whats happened.
