  • Apex's Scott Folk walks you through the proper way to install the Apex Stainless Steel Guide Rod for the FN 502 (Apex Part #119-188). Yes, we know this is a super simple install, but for any first timers we go over how to handle the recoil spring when not captured. And where to properly lubricate.

    Why didn't you make it compatable with the factory retainer? Or make a retainer with the guide rod?

    Will you guys ever come out with a recoil spring for the FN 502 to go with your great guide rod?

    • @apextactical

      No. There is no need to. The factory recoil spring works perfectly fine.

    Why not manufacture the steel guide rod to accept the recoil retaining cups?

  • @jeffanderson.1306
    @jeffanderson.1306 Рік тому +4

    So it just adds a little more weight to the end of the barrel, doesn't improve the function of the gun. There is no muzzle rise on this gun anyway especially if suppressed.

    Hi, thanks for sharing and for the info. Was wondering if you guys made a replaceable trigger for the 502 because the factory trigger reset is horrible.

      We dont presently manufacture any other products for the 502

      I just added an overtravel screw by myself. I just jammed a screw between the hollowed section on the back of the trigger. that halfens the overtravel and thus the reset.

    Just picked up my 502 today, what’s the advantage of adding the SS guide rod?

      @@jacoblape lol, I have an FN502. I honestly don’t know why anyone would buy this. TBH buying 300 rounds of Mini Mags and learning how to not limp wrist and actually hold the 502 will serve folks a lot better. 3000+ rounds through the stock FN, no issues…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

      Let's be real, the factory guide rod is cheap flimsy thin plastic. If you're fine with that, cool. If you want something a little more sturdy that is guaranteed for the lifetime of the firearm, replace it.

    Can you guys make a better red dot mounts. I've noticed a little space between the mount and the slide in front and back if you put up to a light. It dose allow a little bit of movement in the red dot sight and move my zero left to right. If you can I'd like to have threads in the mount so it can mate with the slide better. Most likely needs to be made of aluminum. With the option of no suppressor rear sights.

    So what happened with those little cups that you took off of the original? Those are no longer needed?

    • @apextactical
      @apextactical  2 роки тому +1

      They get set aside with the factory guide rod. Your spring will not be captive so when you take it out, you'll need to watch out that you don't launch the guide rod across the room or into your face.

    Someone want to help a newbie out and tell me why the cup shattering to pieces wasn't a big deal? Seems like the spring is no longer contained in the same fashion on the new guide rod

    • @apextactical
      @apextactical  5 місяців тому +1

      We didn't shatter the cup, we just removed it. The guide rod retainer is only necessary when the guide rod is out of the pistol.

    • @brendenagrela2466
      @brendenagrela2466 5 місяців тому

      So is this to say that the new guide rod (and spring) can be reinstalled without the cup and function exactly the same as the old guide rod with the cup?

    • @apextactical
      @apextactical  5 місяців тому +1

      @@brendenagrela2466 That is correct. The only difference is that when you have the slide off the frame, and remove the guide rod, the spring will extend so be careful not to launch the guide rod and spring.

    The factory sights are cheap , like something on a bb gun. I'm not sure it would do any good for after market sights to be made for the FN 502, since there isn't much to hold them onto the slide.
