The fact that they all speak fluent Gaelic at home is so great! I’m sure Jamie would be over the moon to know that his daughter and grandchildren are living in Scotland, in their ancestral home in the Highlands, and speaking their native language :) Brianna was always meant to be born a Scot and live at Lallybroch, it might have taken 200 hundred years but she finally made it home.
This made me super emotional. After knowing this whole story and knowing this bit is REAL. Britian forbid the speaking of Gaelic. And of weaing the Plaid to try amd keep the scottish people under control. Im not a historian but have read these books a few times. Without the magic its historical fiction. And its painful.
Gaelic was not banned after Culloden. It was the Scottish educational system that banned Gaelic in schools under The Education (Scotland) Act 1872. This effectively put an end to non-English medium education. Pupils were physically punished if caught speaking in Gaelic.
As far as I’m aware, he is one of the few actors who isn’t faking or overly emphasizing his accent and is actually from the Highlands, so we are hearing his natural voice talents.
This is so fantastic! I loved this . Also it was great how he mentioned the ladies prepping the wool and their songs. I met Roger at an Outlander event and what a fantastic personality! But he’s Scottish so of course he’s wonderful. And a great singer along with David Berry. That was a great weekend!!!
Didn't understand a word of gaelic but it called out to my heart when I first heard it in the series Outlander. So I open UA-cam and listen to this particular portion over and over. How beautifully he sings those Gaelic words, I cannot describe. It kind of evokes those inner feelings from the core of one's heart.⚜️⚜️⚜️
~60,000 Scots and ~71,000 Irish speak Gaelic. Numbers do however vary (many more in some Irish surveys that include those who say they know it but never speak it or only in school).
Irish Gaelic is actually taught in public schools from an early age in Ireland as it is one of the official national languages of Ireland. That’s why there were so many in the survey who aren’t fluent since they might only learned and used it in school. Street signs and other signs there are actually written in Gaelic as well as English, just like other countries with more than one official languages.
depends which part of the country ahaha not at any one time has the whole country been spekin the one language Gaelic, Doric, Scots and others + mixtures
So so so many good people were destroyed (I can’t possibly come up with an appropriate word to describe the PAIN and HORROR these poor family members and friends are feeling) by what this creature has done. So Why does the US even have the death penalty…if not for THIS CASE..… If not for THIS MONSTER….. THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!!😡 But I guess we all saw how badly the prosecution needed this extra last min evidence (the evidence the prosecution said they needed so bad they were willing to give up on the death penalty to be able to use it in trial.). could you imagine if they didn’t have this spectacular new evidence. What it would take 2 days to come to guilty.😠 The justice system …many POLICE, the prosecution, the JUDGE …not only failed the poor victims 😔but every single family member and friend of. All they had to do was .. their job.🤷🏼♀️ And innocent loving wives, children, and loving husbands would still be alive !!! 😒😠 Ever notice when they actually do their jobs .. or a citizen calls it in. Let’s be real. they hold big crazy news conferences… to pat THEMSELVES on their backs. 🤦🏼♀️ ❤❤ 🌎
