- Not a bad lap but still there is a list of racing driver excuses to deal with:
- It was too warm at 25/26C air temp
- The suspension really did not work well on bumps (stock PASM with stiffer springs) and inspired ZERO confidence except in smoothly paved parts. Unstable under braking as well.
- dB killer exhaust tips with narrow diameter killed a few HP
- My GoPro died at the start of a slightly better lap with much faster Sx and Fuchsrohre.
- Lack of track experience not having driven here for 3 years.
Car mods:
Soul race headers + Cargraphic 200cpi catalytic converters + Cargraphic track/comp exhaust
Swift springs 80 N/mm front, 100 rear.
Alignment -3 camber front -2.5 rear.
Sway bars stock middle/middle.
Actual lap time 7:14.89
Optimal lap time 7:10.66
Desired lap time: 6:25.91

You can use M.I.B flash for PCM to enable Android Auto. Then you can use screen mirroring from an Android phone running racechrono :)

JC. Awesome lap! I know this topic is beaten to death but I want your insights. 981 GT4. For the sway bars are you faster with med/hard or soft/hard. I recently went soft/hard and whilst I haven’t gone to the track yet I’m not feeling the same level of response on the street. Car seems slower to turn and rolls more (duh). Your experiences?
Hey, thanks! That's difficult for me to say actually because everyone who runs the 718 version seems to agree med/med is the way to go but the 981 responds differently even though the suspension parts and sway bars are the same. You seem to need a bit more stiffness on the rear bar to get the car to rotate on the 981. I would probably not go full soft front because that might be a bit too much of a band aid in terms of roll resistance. However what you could try is use a DSC controller which will stiffen the dampers on the outside wheels in a corner which reduces roll nicely. I liked it quite a lot on my 718, at least it was great everywhere except the Nurburgring where it didn't do so well on the bumps. I have a used 981 compatible controller for sale should you want to get one. Another thing you could consider is upgrading the springs on the stock dampers, Swift springs make a good kit. The stock GT4 suspension is too soft in some areas so any stiffness you had with DSC and/or springs is helpful.

@@syedalishah6854 The DSC if anything can make the ride a little better on the street, because it can run the dampers softer when there is no G load. Then when you enter a corner the shocks go hard on the outside wheels to keep the car flatter. It is the V3 version and I can ship it wherever. The springs unfortunately do make the ride stiffer on the street, that's physics :( but it's not bad at all. I'd say an acceptable tradeoff but it depends on what your mix of track and road looks like. If you take name my username here, remove the 1 at the end and tack on gmail you'll have my address :)
Do you think mid/mid sway are optimal on this car overall or only for nurburgring? I'm using full soft in front and mid in rear to dial down some front understeer on gp circuits. I have the same alignment with MR parts, stock shocks. Front ride height still stock.
981 or 982? The 981 needs more rear sway bar at the back but the 718 seems best balanced with both in the middle

Would you do Swift springs again or better coilovers? Stock ride height ?
Guess it depends on the goals, the springs were a nice improvement and not too terrible to drive on the street. Coilovers will be a bit better still but the gap isn't going to be massive. I think Manthey put the front a little lower than stock when they set it up but not too much. Definitely more rake in it.

Hi! Did you installed an andoriod infotainment system? The RaceChrono display is gorgeous.
I used a hack on the PCM to enable Android Auto (and CarPlay). AA software is inside the PCM as it is the same as Audi infotainment but disabled in software. There is a freeware hack that fits on an SD card that lets you flash the PCM to enable it. After that I used a screen mirror app on my phone to show RaceChrono 👍

Edit: Nope 981 has PCM 3.1 which as far as I can tell, can't do the SD card upgrade, just PCM 4.
@@LuckyX2 This is for PCM 4.x only, so the 718/991.2 etc. 981 can get Android but you need an add-on piece of hardware that is sold online and a lot more work as a result. If you google "android auto" together with the version PCM stuff will turn up.
@@JCviggen1 Hi, I also hacked my PCM after your reply(MIB, right? The MIB guy made a patch solely for my Chinese PCM software). The track precision works now on my car, although the app has too many bugs.
I also purchased a Pixel 5 for android auto screen mirror, however I heard the AAAD app I am using doesn't support Android 12. So I can't use the AA mirror plus.
Do you use AAAD, and a 11 version OS? Please give more hint if possible.

Yoko 052. Great tire but maybe a bit too vague in the steering for the ring which needs more precision...
What have you done to achieve this alignment? Shims only or additional parts?
Shims and front camber plates to keep the caster in check. Plus rear toe links.

Very nice, very quick. Does the cargraphic setup add much power, or require a remap?
my car is non-EU so I don't have the sensors on the filters. But the lambda wires aren't long enough to reach the cats which now sit in the rear location. So wiring needs extending or a tune. The whole setup probably gives me about 20hp more with the extra dB killers as exhaust tips

@@JCviggen1 it felt fast until seeing yours! I’ve only driven the car on two track days, so I need to get more comfortable with how it handles, but I don’t think I’ll find 7 seconds - and I have PDK too, so it’s even easier for me
I have the MR kit now (not the wheels) and the suspension makes a difference, it would possibly help provide you more stability and the aero at speed (kesselchen bump in particular) helps.
I quickly looked at your lap and just think you’re quicker “everywhere”, so I need to work on carrying more speed through corners
