Great review and video, thanks. I have always like the 071/111 loco, and both my wife and I have ridden behind all 21 examples. I have just acquired 078 on ebay, with 077 to be delivered shortly. These will be added to 086 in Supertrain Livery and 080 in Irish Rail Ir Livery, already in my possession. All superb models in terms of looks and performance. I would urge care with the handrails as they are fragile. Currently 071s retail on ebay for £280 to £350 ! So "get them now" was wise advice. I have recently picked up a 9 coach set of Murphy Models Mark 2D complete with electric gen car and a restaurant car. All excellent. I also have Murphy Models Cravens set, plus two IRM 001 A Class Metro Vicks, plus three Murphy Models 141/181s. All superb models. Much better than the BR Class 33 painted in Irish Rail Livery, and being completely wrong Bo-Bo instead of Co-Co, three windows instead of two, and wrongly numbered 125, originally produced for Irish modellers in the 1990s. Irish models have gone from leaps to bounds. I can also recommend Silver Fox Models. I have their CIE buffet car, BR Mark 1 steam gen and Dutch steam gen. They are manufactured to order and take @ 9 months, but we'll worth the wait.
Thanks for that. I'd hate to be forking out the big money on these now. I have a review recorded on the new '141/181' in which I want to talk about re-run coaches as well. I have a few of those Silver Fox models alright that haven't featured yet - waiting for the rolling stock to appear from IRM and Rails for that.
Cheers for your reply. Lost count on how many UA-cam videos that lament the passing of these trains. A 22200 three car DMU just does not do it for me. Even the wife remarked, these are not as good as an 071 !
I love your videos, your track is amazing and the in depth honest review is extremely informative! The class 071 has my heart. Once a year at least we'd travel from Galway to Dublin on this train. In my youth I collected models and 10 yrs ago I fell in love with this particular train. I've spent the 2 years or so searching, do you think there are any left? I bought my first train last year, Class 201 No.203 'River Corrib' and I just added the Class 121 No129. I had no intention of starting a track, yet, but following your review, of the Class 121, I need to test them, make sure there are no issues... how many years did your track take to build to date?
Hi Patrick, I came back to the hobby in 2014 and did my first video of the layout in 2015, the footage from which appears in this video: ua-cam.com/video/3bFVLO2x6kU/v-deo.html that I posted in 2018. The actual track circuit hasn't changed much since then but I did revamp all of the buildings a few years later replacing most of the Hornby and Bachmann non-railway buildings with H0 Gauge Kibri and Volmer buildings giving a more urban look to the layout. In 2020 I started using matte overlays in post to block out the curtains and shelving around the layout and also provide a way to vary the look depending on the train that was running. This has made the layout look larger and more complex than it actually is. It's only 8' x 4'. As a number of folks have expressed interest in layout I will be doing a couple of videos on the current layout and on my ambitious plans for it's future. I'd love to get the first of these out before Christmas but that will depend upon what models appear on the doorstep between now and then needing to be run and reviewed! Timing-wise the basic track layout only took a few months but the accumulation of various buildings and structures has taken years.
Great review, I'm with you on the quality and performance that's why I have 3 ,only gripe is the handrails and trying not to damage them been lucky so far 👍
Unfortunately they sold out a number of years ago. A close alternative is still available. Check out Rails of Sheffield: railsofsheffield.com/products/36448/murphy-models-mm5102-oo-gauge-irish-railways-mk-iid-cie-1st-class-coach-5102
Many people respray BR mkIII coaches from Hornby. The doors are wrong as BR had slam doors and CIE had automatic plug doors but from two feet away you wouldn't notice. Decals/transfers are available.
@@EuviRail Thanks, i was just wondering about the weight for pulling the Sharge track cleaner. It’s a little lighter than my 37, but should do the job. Thanks again EuviRail.
Sooner the better they re-run these.

Beautiful. Just a very small point for those who might be interested the end of the loco with the roof fans is actually the rear.
Talk about raising the bar !...beautifull ! ....

Great review, decided to invest in a Class 71. Are the carriages definitely not available anymore?

Nice review, and lovely looking loco. Any chance you'd know the weight of this loco.
Hi Aodhan, the MM Class 071s weigh in at around 506gm (this includes a sound decoder but that's only a couple of gms.)
