  • This is at Elmhurst Illinois along Metra's UPRR Chicago West Line. Seen is a Inbound METRA departing Elmhurst just as the Outbound train pulls in. Note the Outbound is using the center track. Passengers have to all leave the one coach that is at the York road crossing. 7/17/08 and a hot 88 degrees at aprox 2:15 PM

All METRA locomotives are named. Most have the name of a town, but some have the names of people. This is partly a masrketing gimmick, and partly to honor those named. I kind of like it as it allows me to keep track of the locomotives a little easier than remembering numbers.

Can't understand why some of these stations don't have a center platform. They should at least built a walkway so passengers shouldn't have to use the RR crossing to board.

Track Two is used enough to possibly justify another platform. However, even a short platform would require the railroad took take land from one or both sides of the Station. As the tracks would need to move, the existing platforms would need to be modified. Elmhurst is about to get a brand new station but I don't think that anyone has considered a middle platform.....?
