Dave, I'm glad it didn't start for your sake, and Doc's. 😅 Should be a runner.

I grew up in Western Nebraska family farm enjoyed your farm story we had a G and an A. I never understood why farmers loved these tractor I liked the International M much more and of course when case came out with the case-o-matic that beat them all.

Hi Dave, if I was closer than in Tennessee, I would buy this from you. Used to do alot of 2 cylinder work years ago, before everyone was reproducing parts for these. An All-Fuel A like this I would guess is uncommon. Check the Green Magazine for parts, and one of the authors specializes in carb work for these as well. Be great to change it over to distributor. Great that it turns over so nice. I think the hotter plugs, D21, will make it run alot better. Good luck!!

Just because it has two tanks doesn’t mean it is an all fuel. For a short time farmers were complaining about the fuel capacity of the gasoline A. To help with this Deere offered the gas A with both tanks. Later on the gas A received just one larger tank.

Great barn find, Dave! Do you know what happened to the John Deere D tractor that was replaced by the A? Look forward to seeing what you do with your newest addition to your collection. Hope you and your family are doing well. 🚜 👍

Or, they coulda been a John Deer thief. You would be surprised. When I lived in Round Rock Tx. there were "Rose Thieves" These little old ladies would go about stealing graftings. Some roses are rarer than others. I being a Minn. Yankee laughed, we all are the same. LOL m

If the throttle is all the way back, it shuts off the fuel, so bump up the throttle. Must be late 52 because some of those features are the same as the 60

About the only thing a late A and 60 have in common is the engine block.

Some tractors of this era could run on distillate fuel. But the tractor had to be up to temperature. So it would start on gasoline and then when warm the operator would operate a valve to switch to the distillate fuel. When shutting down they had to remember to switch back so there was gasoline in the carb to start the next morning. This could be that system

He is talking about the front axle. Deere came out with Roll O Matic. If one wheel went over a rock, the other wheel stayed on the ground.

Just wanted to ask if you are sure about the year? This is an all-fuel A, you can tell from the two fuel tanks. The later A's mostly had a distributor as well,, which is much more a desirable tractor. They should start easily once you have spark and are getting gas.

I double check the serial number on the tractor and it's actually a late 51 like I thought it was so yeah

Its a late AF A which makes it a rare more valuable tractor

Not all late As with 2 tanks are all fuel! For a time they offered the gasoline with both tanks for more fuel capacity. They later made the fuel tank larger and only one tank was needed.

@@79fordblake Exactly, it was a certain serial number range that this was offered. I have one that came out of Ohio were kerosene wouldn’t normally be used.
