My current bichir tank has a large black angelfish, a 8” Dinosaur bichir, a 16” rope fish, a chonky ornate bichir, and a Raphael’s Armored catfish. In the past I’ve had luck with gars, fire mouths, zebra loaches. Just make sure no one gets too beat up and everyone has a place to hide.

I sold some very large angel fish to a fish shop that I grew out from eggs. A shop employee could not resist and to some home. Put them in and they were chewed on big time and died. They could not swallow them. So I believe it is just foolish practice.

I keep mine (2senegals and 1delhezi) with a school off rainbowfish, three spot gourami, african butterflyfish and a pair off blue phantom pleco's.

How big do these grow?
Depends on the bichir species. The one this video focused on gets to at least 11 inches
How about gourami? Not giant or dwarf
I disagree with some of this. They may not be able to swallow some of these but they will try if let get to hungry. You will end up with chewed up fins and tails. Ultimately dead fish. If you follow some of these suggestions. You will find out the hard way unfortunately. Especially when they get some size on them.
Are silver dollars fine? Cus I think they’re fast enough to get away from bichirs, I’m thinking about getting them
As soon as I saw eel, that was a red flag. My bichir ate my fire eel whole.
Have you seen the bichir poop, that alone deters me from buying one ...... I mean every poop is ugly but bichir poop is disgusting and their feeding habits make the water dirty fast .
