I’m American and my favorite “American” movie is Paris, Texas and that has a German director. I think in that case the vastness of the country isn’t taken for granted like it is with most Americans.
When Kate Windslet came to America she attended a show that I was in. (It was my first performance as a singer, and the break-a-leg understudy). So the audience ran to her limo, while I was singing! We saw Titanic and it was great, then Eternal Sunshine. My music hit after that, thank you for being at the right place on the right day! Was so exciting for my career.
Nice little gem from the early 2000s, both the movie as well as the interview. Thanks for posting this. I wish Hollywood would go back to taking risks by producing movies like Eternal Sunshine - a creative script, with talented actors and great cinematography/editing, tied together by an excellent director. These used to be the films that would bring in massive profits, critical acclaim, oscar nominations, and would go on to become classics. Before the crisis of reboots, remakes and super hero movies, these movies were *_it._*
Bringing brilliant creative people together on a project is no guarantee that the movie will work. It's a bit mysterious or miraculous how wonderful this film is.
Kate Winslett is such an immensely talented actress not to mention stunningly beautiful inside and out. Not to take anything away from Carrey's performance which was very good, but Winslett's performance was just incredible. She is also yet another example of how the Brits do American accents so much better than Yanks trying to do any of the British accents! Haha
It is a wonderful interview of Kate and Michel on Charlie Rose show. I like the part when Charlie gives an exemplary credit to both particularly Michel at a point while describing a scene in the movie when Clamentine ask Joel to open his eyes and he stretches his eyes by forcing both his hand to get into the reality. This scene undoubtedly is nothing short of literary fiction. It is I think getting oneself forcefully free from Stream of Consciousness into the reality ☺👍
Superb film. Best Jim Carrey perf ever for me. Kate Winslet nails everything. Gondry at his cinematic best supported by Kaufman's intriguingly beautiful script. So much to learn from and admire in this film.
Is there a lengthy interview with Jim Carrey about this film that is similar to this. I haven't found many clips of him discussing this movie, just a few short ones.
Gondry is a very gifted creator with a unique style. His other films are recommended. Science of Sleep (has some similarities with Eternal Sunshine), Mood Indigo (kind of wild, very surreal), Be Kind Rewind (fun, but not mind blowing). Sadly he was misplaced as director for Green Hornet. I'd hoped to see more feature films for him in the US, but I suppose his style is a bit too niche for American tastes.
She's cute I like her alot she makes me happy Kate you are special very I like your name it's kool and pretty Kate Winslet good name for an actress that's I wonder did you know you would be this huge icon that you are because you are
I really don’t like how it almost feels like he mocks him for having such a bit* of a hard time with expressing his ideas in English* This interviewer could only wish he could think the way he does. Idk how people really judge people’s intelligence based on how well they speak English. 🤦♂️
i have a hard time trying to understand what he said, his accent is too thick, maybe the interviewer was like me and was only trying to make sure he didn't understand him wrong?
Kate was magical in this movie. We all fell in love with Clem together. There is a real Clementine in this world. I met her this summer. I didn't know it at the time, but I fell in love that very evening we spent together. Try as I might, I cannot get her out of my mind. As her face fades from memory, her spirit fills my heart.
Why does Kate say that there's no difference between Clem in his mind and Clem in real life. I think that's stupid because everybody have different perspectives on others than how they really are. Michel's explanation was honestly a lot better. Although Kate's awesome and her portrayal of Clem totally blew me away, but still. She's really bad at explaining the movie in interviews
Yes i thought that same But a little differently. Clem in his mind was more logical than clem in real life because that's inside Jim's head. She keeps comming up with great ideas and solutions of escaping the eraser guys and everything ends well and more sorted out but clem in real life was bitchy when her mood escaltes and Nothing worked out. That clem was more of a jim's fantasy.
@@nuke2625 Yea I agree. Also, when the real Clementine erased her own memories she probably didn't even try to stop the erasing procedure. Otherwise the erasing people wouldn't have been so surprised at what was happening in Joel's case. I always wondered why she'd even like Joel anyways as he was sort of a loser while she was incredibly cute and charming. And really, I don't even think she liked him that much. I just think she forgot about him due to the procedure and then was freaked out by Patrick who was a psychopath. Then Joel seemed a better alternative to Patrick. Since we see the movie from Joel's POV, it seems like they both are really excited about starting again at the end but I don't think the real Clem is that into him. She's just kind of confused by the whole thing and will probably leave him after a while again.
I think having the point of views on this question is actually great. Kate's opinion adds the perspective of truly understanding someone. Of course the perspective is different but somehow after a while you can get a person, and predict how they would react to a situation pretty accurately, which makes your representation not so different from the actual person (as long as you follow the person's evolution). And for the love thing, love isn't lead by reason, but I feel like there's actually something compatible between the two.
@@inspirationnee5151 I definitely agree with a lot of that. I think one of the cool things about the movie is that it is very unclear what Clementine is feeling and also what she will feel a few days after the last scene. This allows for both possibilities to be viable. It is like in real relationships - you just dont know exactly what the other person is feeling (even if they say they want to continue the relationship) and you just sorta have to give it a try and see what happens.
Sorry but she looks totally British to me. Especially her side profile, the nose and chin. Her look is perfect for period movies because she has that Gibson girl quality.
A Canadian actor, an English actress and a French director = Best American movie.
An american writer!

Demographically speaking none of these countries will exist by the time millennials are in retirement age (if they survive that long).
One of my Top 10 all-time favorite movies.
yes, easily!
Kate is so beautiful

my favorite movie of all time. so sad that it’s so underrated. 🥺
lol. it's one of top rated romance movies.
Exactly mines too😩😢
She was so great I’ll forever think somewhere in the world Joel and Clementine are walking a beach.

Kate is one of the best actresses ever! 😍😍😍
I love this movie of Kate.. 💕Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorite movie.. 😘

Damn she does a great American dialect. Having just watched the movie, I forgot she was English and was shocked hearing her here 😮
Kate is so beautiful in this interview. She should wear her hair like this more often
The entire cast shines.
interview asked great in depth answers
thanks for uploading!
"Don't complicate it Michel" jajajajjajajajjajajajja Love her

i love kate winslet
I love her so much.
0:33 wtf Kate giving such a serious look in the beginning!
maybe she's affected by Charlie's serious style I hope
I noticed that maybe it's her resting face.
She is versatile

The best movie
I can’t find an interview with both Kate and Jim 😕
Michel looks a bit hurt when Kate says playing Clementine was exhausting
It would have been an even better interview had Mr. Rose not interrupted Ms. Winslet so very often.
That's his thing. Worst host ever.
What show is this from?! It would be really helpful to have those credits.
The Charlie Rose Show
She was so fine back in the day. JESUS
She still looks great.

He’s not mocking him. He’s just repeating what he said because he has a thick accent - just to make sure he’s understood
i have a hard time trying to understand what he said, his accent is too thick, maybe the interviewer was like me and was only trying to make sure he didn't understand him wrong?
Just another love story with a hint of the truth in it.
What’s the truth in it?
I’m just watching this to stare at Kate. 😊
We need Charlie Rose back!
Michel's a funny guy.
Funny how?
WHY IS CHARLIE SCREAMING AT ME
Kate was magical in this movie. We all fell in love with Clem together.

y was kate looking like that
Soumickss B
Hey.
Yeah, She looked different to me too.
Soumick ,shes got regular makeup on ,she prolly did it herself,i think she looks good
Because she is a Goddess! 😍
Charlie just farted.

where's Jim Carrey?
why does Kate look so agitated at the start of the interview?
This movie is about when technolgy messes with nature to make life easy...
so i'm wondering if a truly pointless love affair would benefit from this erasing procedure
This interviewer is absolutely horrible
Who is he? The interviewer
That's Charlie Rose.
What a horrible host.
i cant understand what this dude is saying
Kate doesn't look British to me... her face is so unique , she could be from a different country or maybe she does have different origins.

It’s an art piece, of course this foolish interviewer, whoever he is 😂, he doesn’t get it
Interesting film title terrible film.
