- Recently while on tour, we had a day off to spend in the studio in The Netherlands. We spent the day recording in a brand new studio built in the cellars of a building dating back to the 1,200-1,300's

Mate I tell you what! These videos are exactly what I want to see on UA-cam, might not be intended but it’s a lesson in itself, instead of the generic UA-cam lesson format which I can’t stand anymore. Great job as always Rhett and the band hope big things find you all in 2020
I absolutely agree. Rhett has created a wonderful series of "a day in the life" type of vid's with him and his band and others in various live & studio settings that are entertaining & informative as well. I'm happy for him to see that his vid's have been gaining in viewership, because they're worth the time to watch.
You mean you don't want to watch that other cringe tiktok shorts on UA-cam
That's 100 meters from my house! next time come for some coffee!
Ah bless the Americans for loving how old Europe is!
Us Australians are worse..... LOL...
Ozzy ah you’re all legends
@@clivepeacock Nope. We are jingoistic and larrikins. Quite full of ourselves.
clivepeacock I grew up just north of New York City, where the towns & villages date to the 1600-1700's. We had a stone wall in the woods from that time. Then I went to London, Paris, Amsterdam and Rome in college and saw what really old towns and villages are like and I was amazed. Now I live in Las Vegas where almost nothing is older than 20 years. I live in an "old neighborhood". My house was built in 1992! Ha ha!
Russell Love it man, I have american I love showing around the U.K.
US, where 100 years is a long time. Europe, where 100 miles is a long way.
Perfect description
Well, America is huge, but relatively "new", IE: British based European, probably the best European country to be based off of. And really, would you want stone age people running around killing each other as normal, in ritualized warfare? I mean, Im good with it, but would you be?
This drum sounds huge and the drummer is funny as hell! Like button SMASHED!
As a man who has been thinking of becoming a session guitarist for the last while, I personally found this video very interesting and helpful.
Cheers Rhett
God bless that drummer. Playing tempos this slow is not as easy as it may seem. Very easy to run away with it, and even with a click... you feel as if your're forward of or behind the beat the whole time.
It sounded like the drummer was behind the beat.. nevermind, they had latency issues.
I love it when you do these type of videos. I don't think people really understand the efforts that go into to creating a song from start to finish because all you hear is the final product.... It truly is a labor of love with music.
One of my mentors out here in The Netherlands built his studio in an old farm that was originally finished with construction somewhere between 850 and 870. Sadly he passed away earlier this year and it's now a dentists office. There was a lot of cool stuff in that studio, including one of the first prototype audio desks made by Soundcraft that had MIDI control built in to mute and unmute channels.
I love finding out about places like these, that keep their buildings history alive and repurpose it.
I love these videos. 10 years ago I wouldn't have been able to enjoy something like this because I was butthurt about not staying with a band (i played trumpet for) that ended up touring E Europe. Now a days I don't get envious of others good fortunes (knowing that it was my choices and mine alone that sealed my fate) but rather find that I am genuinely happy to see a fellow musician living the dream. Stay humble my friend. I didn't, and it was a dire mistake. One that I am still recovering from.🎩🎸🎩🎸
Bitterness can be good for a couple decades or so. Works for me.
Why is nobody pointing out how catchy that song is
You make the best videos for other guitarists/musicians on UA-cam man. I can’t wait for new vids every week, so thank you and keep up the great work and great content!! We all appreciate it
Awesome video. I love when you do the studio stuff. And as always some of the best clean tones ever Rhett you the man
Love these videos. Thanks for sharing.
The Netherlands. Wonderful.
Awesome as always - thx Rhett.
Gotta love the awesome places music can take you!
Love it
Rhett, your videos are so multifaceted. Love the Music and production view but it's also location like The Netherlands! How awesome that has got to be. Keep up the great work and keep the fantastic content coming. God Bless, and have a Happy New Year.

Love the song!
Love your videos Rhett and your format is perfect - hoping to catch you in PA in May!
Love these videos!!
Very nice to see and hear the creative progress on the song !
Eyyy, I love the Netherlands and I love your work, therefore this was great!
So funny, these walls are older then my country!! Rhett Shull quote.
Yeah Rhett, happens a lot overhere in Europe, then again, the pyramids predate us all by 6000 years.
Its a lot of fun to look at history in that way, gives some perspective to us all.
Thanks for hanging out in my beautifull country, hope that ya all liked it.
Grtz!!
...but no really!!
Love these making of behind the scenes clips!
Thanks for sharing that experience man.
Good song.
It's great to see that music has no borders.
Nice one, Rhett! Beside great music bits, I loved ocational Dutch frases here and there. Dutch and Flamish are the two languages that you rarely come by on you tube. Being of the same german family they sound more 'gentle' to mee. Like German with HUGE 'chorus' effect :) Enjoy your Erope trip.
I can't believe you guys didn't try this, someone even suggested it at 3:40, but you should go back there and make different reverbs and delays in that old well/cistern, with the water in it you could get some awesome sounds, lower a mic to just above the water and face a speaker into the hole. After all, the drums for 'when the levee breaks' were recorded in an entrance hall in an old house in England, a huge high room with a spiral staircase which is what gives it that lovely natural roominess.
This was a fun video. Love Roofman’s singing and his song was pretty cool!
Good energy flow in that studio. 🤘👌🤘
The like button has been SMASHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome gig!!
Good vibes only. I love this jam
Hey Rhett, thanks for letting me live my dream job through you. In all seriousness, your videos are very informing and helpful. Thank you!
I studied in the Netherlands, thanks for reminding me to go there again. I liked the button really so hard I could 😄👍 nice song by the way
Tried to smash the like button, but the last guy broke it.
next time you're in The Netherlands you need to meet up with a band called Aestrid!!! I've seen them a few times when they come down to Ontario Canada. their music kicks ass and they're super nice dudes
Super cool Rhett thanks for sharing
you are living the dream brother. good stuff man!!
Cool song!
Welcome to the Netherlands.
Great video Rhett...I always enjoy your intelligent point of view and playing style. Good editing too. This SC boy would love to say hi next time you and Noah and the boys perform in the upstate. Love the channel and envious of your plan A.
The intro drums sound great!
Killer guitar tones
Me: Oh cool, this is kind of like a chill vide-
Ian: SMASH! THAT! LIKE! BUTTON!
Hey Rhett: Plan A seems to be working. Happy and healthy New Year!
That's a badass guitar case
So awesome and weird at the same time that you where here! Small world, hope to meet you next time in Harderwijk 😉🙌
very cool
welcome in our country!!
awesome video dude, this is why i subscribed!
I love your guitar sound on this.
nice tone there Rhett, had that "real estate" vibe.
The title of the video is 200% accurate.Awesome vid
Cool song man!
That's a fucking sick studio! Really vibey!
Thnx for taking us on this trip Rhett.
That cowbell OMG 😆 !
Really enjoyed the track that you're working on in this one.
GREAT song. Let us know when it's released.
Wow! I'm just seeing this video now, but I actually live in Ermelo, where you started the video! Great to see you're liking the Netherlands.
Like button smashed
Really like Roofman!
Smashed that like button because Ian told me to 😂 awesome insight into the recording process as well!
Awesome man, only half an hour away from my hometown!
Cool, Ermelo and Harderwijk 😄
Sounds good. .... 😉
Cool guitar parts Rhett
I used to play in Ermelo, on the once-a-year village music festival. (fête de la musique). It's a very religious town, but the festival is o.k. (small and cosy).
Dude i live near those places. Wish i knew you were around!
Well “Goedemorgen!” (Good morning in Dutch.)
Really enjoyed this Rhett! Impressive early morning release time dude. We watched over “ontbijte”. Thanks man.
I smash that button sir !!
🙂 This reminds me of an old fort ruins area near where I live. Except the cisterns are outside the buildings. Years of fraternity abuse have happened to the cisterns. Also, abandoned missile silos nearby. Good song smithing.
You should make a T-shirt that says "This does not suck"
New Novo? Great tune, killer location!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Glad you liked our country! Really cool studio indeed and the song sounds great. :)
Does Roofman have a UA-cam channel? Because I can only find videos of him in another band, Backgammon. And what's the title of the track? Thanks!
He has an Instagram called Roofmanofficial!
@@versnellingspookie I only do UA-cam, but thanks anyway. :)
@@TimMer1981 no problem! He has music out there as well :^)
Yep, pretty much every town in the Netherlands is old. Cool video.
It's funny watching Americans visit Europe because we are so used to having old towns and buildings, especially where I am in Cambridge, UK! I guess we take it for granted sometimes.
Keep up the great work Rhett & happy new year.
Huge drums sound! Bonhamish.
Hey Dude That’s an interesting observation
It is not a water cistern but a cesspit. It was closed at the top to lessen the stench.
Looking at the bricks on the inside, it was most likely build in the 14th or 15th century. (Part) of the bricks from the wall look a little older.
i can't get over the fact that there is a stairway that leads to nowhere in the drywall :D
Nice video, I hope to go as far as you someday
That would be really dope to stick a room mic in the cistern and capture vocals above it
Hey Rhett, I've really been enjoying your videos lately, at least I'm finding them to be really informative!
I was curious and so thought I'd ask, have you ever tried Audio Kitchen Amps? Not sure how easy it would be for you to get hold of one but I'd love to hear your take on (and playing) through them! (No affiliation, just curious as I love them!)
All the best and thanks for making such great videos.
"this does not suck." ROFL : )
"Like him so hard he breaks" 🤣 Thank you for yet another awesome vid Rhett
That well is where the chick from The Ring lives...
I think this song need more cowbell.
Cool session: what's the new Mythos prototype ?
I smashed the like button for you
I thought Arc'teryx was local company here in Vancouver. Apparently you get their jackets in the US, too.
This is great. I miss being in the studio 😭. But hey, I ain't dead yet!! Lol
While you guys are there , see if you go tour a working windmill/sawmill. They are awesome.
Great video and song.....but where can we see the finished track or Roofman's videos?? Can't seem to find anything online... thanks
Y’all getting John Frusciante vibes from this guys singing/song writing? Love it
Yer shadows collide vibe
