- In this video, we are unboxing our first HelloFresh subscription box with 4 meals for 4 people (well, in our case 6). It's an incredibly convenient option if you want to learn how to cook or don't have time to figure out planning meals for the week and saving time during the week stopping at a grocery store. It's not affordable, but it's not too expensive either.
I would say that you are paying a premium for the service of someone making it easy for you to setup the meals so that all you have to do is cook them. It's also way better than taking unhealhy takeout food.
These are pre-portioned ingredients (and for our family of four kids and two adults, four servings was plenty) and flexible subscriptions, it allows you to make meals from scratch without having to worry about missing ingredients. It helps handle all of the grocery meal planning and food shopping for me.

The fact that these food subscription box company really think people only have 4 people in their families, is annoying

As far as the packaging goes you’re still buying packaging if you go to the grocery store. *I don’t bring my own bags so there’s that too. Something to consider. I don’t think it’s any more waste than going to the grocery store- and they’ve got to package properly to prevent food poisoning and spoilage.
* I always ask for paper bags because paper production is 100% renewable resource-living in a timber state I completely support the timber and pulp industries. Those bags represent peoples’ bread and butter, and I also heat my home with wood heat from my fireplace insert and I use the paper bags to start my fires. Everything I carry my food home in I reuse. None of it goes to the dump/landfill.
You have to consider the fact that HelloFresh reduces around 30% of food waste because it only ships you the exact amount of food required. This reduces a lot of CO2 in the supply chain at the agricultural level. Also, because it is shipped straight to you vs ingredients first going to a supermarket warehouse, then to a supermarket then you driving down to the super market and then driving home, the transport CO2 is reduced as well. Most of the packaging is recyclable and they have biodegradable packaging coming out sometime later this year. It’s a c02 neutral command
i do especially agree about the food waste especially in our household!
Where do you get the 30% food waste reduction from? Also, you still need to drive to the supermarket to buy food for the other days of the week, so you are not cutting down emissions.
Truth is, this service is not good for the environment.
John Thomas .....did you take that directly from the website? Or do you work at hello fresh?. adding hello fresh to a family. Is basically adding an extra cost. "Personal shoppers" is what it amounts too....paying hello fresh to get SOME of my shopping and thinking done for me.....
Furthermore how on earth could people induvidlizing 4 meals a week reduce packaging? That would add packaging....let just get rid of supermarkets and deliver everyone's food to thier house all the time! Thatlls reduce waste! Wtf are you smoking?
how does it know the exact of amount of food I need. My family is a family of 5 and my husband eats 3 servings on his own. I would love this if it provided all of my groceries I still have to go to the store for ALL Of my other stuff. It would just make my grocery bill $100 more. HOw does this save anyone money?

Good review. I get Hello Fresh as well and over all love it. As for the environmental comment they have to do it like that to ensure we are getting a fresh product and at temperature, There really is no other way around that and most of everything is recyclable. I keep some of the dry ice bags and keep them in the freezer as they can be used again for trip and stuff, Thanks again!

@@foxyc4783 no it is not. I have 3 children....we did hello fresh for 4. And me and my wife started losing weight lol.....and our kids were 1.....3....and 11....so two of the kids Didn't eat very much at all!....the cost per meal comes to 12.99 per meal right now. That's the same if not more than just eating out....but you get much better portions when you eat out.
Just buy groceries! I find these services just cannot work for large families and with 3 teens here there is no way that would ever fill up my boys!
Cant be the right amount of portions when the servings size is ment for 4 and you split if for 6 so your eating less than the servings size.
