Pool Practice Drills - The Christmas Tree | Pool School

  • This is just a little festive pool practice drill based on the shape of a Christmas Tree. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported the channel this year and wish all my subscribers a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
    The practice routine focuses on close cue ball control and working with tightly bunched balls. Shot planning and positional play is key to completing the drill.
    The shots are carried out on a 7ft UK 8 ball table

    Excellent close control of the cue ball. So much more difficult than it looks! One frustrating issue is that I feel that I am improving in practice (having reviewed all your videos!) and sometimes playing very well indeed and then when I play a match I cannot seem to consistently reproduce that form. And because I know I can play better it affects my in-game mentality. It’s astonishing how much a game of pool is won or lost “in your head”. Also unlike snooker, I think at an amateur level pool is a great leveller and it is possible to lose to a weaker opponent particularly if they have the “run” of the table. Any tips gratefully received!

      You’re absolutely right. So much of it is how you deal with the game mentally, keeping your focus and choosing the right shots. You’re also right that sometimes your opponent gets the run of the balls. The thing to remember with this is that it’s out of your control. If a player clears up in one visit then there is nothing you can do about it so it’s not worth beating yourself up over. Also try and focus on your stats over the course of a season, not one off matches. If like me you just play a single frame against a player in a match, then anything can happen. Look at the bigger picture as to how you’re improving. Within a game itself try not to get angry or fraustrated by anything. It’s easier said than done but calmness will help you focus on technique and choosing the right shots.

      Cheers! Agreed. We went to the World Pool Championships this year and I asked the over 50s winner how he remained so calm during his match and he said that he always plays the balls rather than the opponent - which I try to remember!

    Hi pool school. I have a request could you potentially teach me how to defend the black when the opponent and I are both on the
    Black ? I just tend shoot to pot but I don’t always pot the black then my opponent more often than not is set up and wins the frame. I’ve lost matches because of this. I’d like to know how to defend the black and where I leave the cue ball and black
    Ball tight. This is hard when it’s already tight and we are both on the black. Sorry for long winded message. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Martin.

    • @PoolSchool
      @PoolSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Martin Black yes it’s a tricky one but. It’s probably easier for me to make a video showing different things you can do, rather than trying to explain it. I’ll add it to my list.
