So many people just don't know WHAT a good tattoo looks like. I noticed that with my third tattoo. It's on the front of my forearm, it's a neo-traditional kitsune fox mask. It was done REALLY well. The design is nothing crazy, but it's clean. The lines are clean, the colors are saturated, and it's just a good tattoo. People have asked me if it's real, and even almost a year later, people ask if it's fresh. It really did just make me realize people don't see GOOD tattoos very often.
Seriously. Every time someone tells me which of my tattoos they really like, it's always one of the worst ones I have. Meanwhile I've got stuff that I can only describe as pure mastery that folks don't even look twice at.

Some if the bulbs are a bit windy, and there's a few blow outs. And they're tiny. Each about a half inch tall. But I get asked about them weekly. They are unique, and people are curious about them, but it's still funny. I've got 5 tattoos, all very visible. One is on my hand lol. But it's the light bulbs people ask me about all the time.
I want a tattoo, but honestly the rarity of good tattoos as you said makes me very nervous. Especially with expenses. Honestly I don’t really know where to even start when it comes to researching how to know if someone is a good artist.
I think the girl with the cute/dainty sun and moon tattoo is also going through a classic case of new tattoo anxiety. Ive seen a lot of people have second guesses or regrets almost immediately because its a radical change theyre not used to. Maybe she really does want something bolder like you said, but tattoos can be kind of shocking when you're first starting out.
Yeah happened to me a few times that I didn't quite love a new tattoo but after seeing it for a few weeks and the tattoo settling in the skin I was super happy
I will add I am exactly the same way. I only have had four tattoos over the past two years, but starting about 6 hours after the second skin is on, I HATE my tattoo. And then a week later that goes away and within a month I am back to as excited as I was in the beginning.
agreed! i think it's also the adrenaline rush/exhaustion after getting tattooed that makes you second-guess everything you've done lol. you're having a physiological response! sleep on it and eat some good food!
@@sydney6548 its also a common response they warn you about for major surgery. i had top surgery this july and they warned about post-op feelings of regret, which typically occur btwn the 2 and 4 week mark post-op. i didnt get it, but the ppl who do usually have it fade within a few weeks, once their brain gets used to seeing their new features.

In regard to the tattoo flu, I always wonder how people who get those MASSIVE pieces done under anesthetia by like 5 dudes end up feeling after they come to. I've said it before, but it must be like getting hit with a freight train of pain. And then, for your body to have to heal all of it at once must be overwhelming physically on your immune system.
After spending lots of time really looking at different healed tattoos and tattoo styles, I know that the lasting way a tattoo looks is after it has settled into the skin. So, when I look at a sketch on a tattoer’s tablet, I see what the tattoo will look like. A fresh tattoo can look good, but I don’t expect my tattoo to look exactly the same once it has settled, and I go to experienced enough tattooers who know how to create the tattoo that I want once it has settled. I have noticed that my tattoos look overly saturated and too bright when fresh, and exactly what I wanted once settled. It definitely threw me for an anxiety loop the first time I had color work done, though!
My mothers ugly ass tattoos (she only has a few but theyre all ugly, un feminine and poorly done) also made me cautious about not be impulsive not indecisive. My first tattoo if I get one will most likely be something planned out and wanted for at a least a year in advance so enough time to think it over. And I still won’t get it if my husband doesn’t think it’s a good design or otherwise doesn’t approve of it because he has lived with tattoo regret before and has the wisdom to help prevent me from experiencing the same
About the whole gender of the tattooer thing: I don't know if this was the intention of the original poster, but I do think there is a conversation to be had about how a lot of men tattooers only learn to tattoo other men (or themselves) and then end up going way to deep on women's skin (which tends to be thinner, more elastic and more delicate) and scar them or blow out the tattoo. This isn't a comment about the inherent skill of any gender, but rather just a gap in experience (and of course that's not the case for all men either, but God knows I've met plenty tattoo artists who have literally never tattooed a woman)

However, tooth replacements can be made from "plastics", which are cheaper and provide enough strength to eat (altho they break way quicker than ceramics), and I believe you could potentially "tattoo" that.
I just love how you say it how it is. Even if it's an ugly design, if it's executed properly, with clean lines and shaded properly etc. I'm just glad you are 100% real 100% of the time!!! One love!!

I also bled a lot during it but it was my first tattoo so I was like "ok well maybe that's normal like damn this hurts a lot." Second tattoo, looks almost the same as the day I got it with exception of normal aging etc. It's beautiful, I get compliments on it from time to time. Honestly the immediate tattoo regret is something I always feel bad over because no matter how much I love a tatt, I’m autistic and the large change distresses me at first. I seem to always have 1 to 5 days of ‘have I made the right decision 😰😰’ stress until I become used to seeing the tattoo on me, and then I’m usually just super happy about it. It’s such a confusing process but in the end I have turned out to love all mine
Ive had alot of 6 hour+ tattoos always thought it was pretty standard havent got sick after one yet. though i always find it nuts that some of my smallest tattoos are the ones that took the longest
In regards to gender, I think there's a bit of a bias because it is generally more widely accepted for men to become tattoo artists so you end up with a ton of them, including a lot who are good and a lot who are mediocre. For a woman to become a tattoo artist though, she has to put up with so much industry bullshit and probably be better than her male counterparts to even get an apprenticeship, so only the really good artists make it through the process.
I have two small small/medium-sized face tattoos, one on each side (sort of on the upper cheeks), symmetrical. I personally love how they came out and of all the tattoos I have that I've second-guessed at some points, I've never second-guessed my face tattoos. I have them for over 3 years at this point. I also have pretty significant coverage on both arms, hands, chest, throat, and all around my neck. Everything I have is symmetrical and done in the same style, so it's sort of like many pieces of a big project that have been coming together over the years. I've designed every single one of my tattoos myself and have been adding on ideas as time has been progressing. At this point I actually feel that I may have reached my goal with tattoos. I have thoughts of maybe doing an upper back piece at some point, but not sure how much I want it, since I don't really go to the beach or walk around shirtless, plus even I myself wouldn't really be able to see it without two mirrors. I've had thoughts of a forehead tattoo, script in a style like Amber Rose has, but my wife is completely against it (plus they might not handle it well at my workplace -- even though they accept the tattoos I already have). Never had any interest to do any leg tattoos, stomach, ribs, or lower back.
Also, Rolly West(who you talked about) made a video with that tattooth video, and someone in his comments said that basically, it creates cracks in the tooth enamel that the ink fills up. So it won't last, and that guy's tooth is *fucked.* lol
The people who fill their faces completely like that, I always just feel sad and upset that they must be hurting… my mind automatically goes to the thought that they hate themselves, hate their face, or do it as a mask to hide from the world… and I logically know that I could be way off on that, but that’s the only thing my mind jumps to, and all I can ever think for most of them. I am artistic and don’t normally think that way with alternative looks, but for some reason the extreme changes in looks/body modifications, that’s what my mind always goes to. That’s the same with extreme plastic surgery too. But I know that might just be my perception
I have always said being poor kept me from so many bad decisions as a kid. Part of that was how inaccessible things like tattoo machines were. Kids can literally have one delivered. I can't imagine how me and my dumb friends would look or be today 😅

I’m a woman, and if I take notice of someone’s tattoo, the last thing I care about is if the tattoo was made by a man or a woman. The gender of the tattoo artist is completely irrelevant to me. All I care about is if the tattoo is good or not.
I took a long time to decide what tattoo on my face and I have a very good face tattoo and am so happy with it. My artist input changed the detail and simplified it so it looks great years later. He has had very good input and I always listen to my artist. (This artist at least)

Right. The problem with most face tattoos isn't that they are on the face but that they are really bad tattoos. On a very visible part of the body. Beautiful face/head tattoos exist. See the ones of Friedrich Übler (e.g. on Oli Sykes).
The tooth tattoo is fake. You can't tattoo into tooth. It's not skin. Where would the ink go? You can see he's wearing something over his tooth in the final shot
teeth have layers, ink goes into the layer under the enamel, and you can see it as enamel is clear (still not a good idea and won't last but it's real)

I can relate with the regret of a good tattoo that you selected and everything and at the end it doesn't feel like you... my trusted tattoo artist does blackwork and fine line so good and I have like five pieces from him and looking to get more because they look so good even after five years. Then I had this idea for a tattoo that I really wanted, but needed color so I booked another artist and I love it, and then decided to just go forward with another idea with color... and that one... that one I regret so fucking much, the tattoo is ok... heal ok... but it doesn't feel like me and IS sad, I choose that design, I talked with the artist who was lovely, we went back and forth, I was happy with it, but then... while I was driving home I was like: 'I don't like it, it feels weird, I don't like it. I fucked it up, I can't cover it up, is brand new, why did I do this' which I never thought before or even with the first color tattoo. It sucks, I'm still getting use to it, but I decided to just stick to blackwork which I feel better with from now on.
In the Women and men conflict, i have both kind of tattoos. Both are equally shitty or amazing. It's the person and their skill, and that's nothing to do with gender. (matter of fact, the worst tattoo experience was with a woman, but it was also with a woman that i had the best experience. so yeah it's the person) However, i can see why women can feel uneasy with a male tattoo artist and i wont blame them for it. We had enough horror stories from pretty notorious tattoo artists and getting a tattoo can involve a lot of nudity, can get pretty stressing and you can easily be pressured into a tattoo you don't want, or in a part you don't wish to tattoo with somebody you find intimating.
16:41 I witnessed this firsthand after I did a throat tattoo on someone.... one of my favorite sad stories to tell. He came in and wanted the word "handsome" across his knuckles. I chuckled, thinking it was a joke. He was dead serious. I explained to him that knuckle tattoos fade blah blah blah. I did the tattoo. He came in for a touch up a month later, and told me he wanted "hearthrob" across his throat. I laughed, thinking he was joking. Again, he was so serious. I gave him a ridiculous price, and he said he would save up and get back to me. I tried to talk him out of it as well, once he showed me the font. A month later he comes in, ready for this tattoo. I'm dreading it. The font is all crazy and ignorant style. He has no other visible tattoos besides "handsome" on his knuckles, and I just know it's a bad idea, but he seems really sure that he wants it. We spend about an hour placing the stencil, then get started. I finish it and he goes to look in the mirror. He's poking at it, and stretching his skin, and sighing. He asks "are you going to.... i don't know, make it better?" I asked what he meant, I gave him exactly what he wanted. I asked if it's what he had in mind, and he just kinda shrugged. I found out later that he was copying Ryan Gosling's tattoos from some movie called "beyond the pines" or something. I haven't seen him since. I'm not sure if he thought he was going to turn into Ryan Gosling after he got these tattoos or not, but I tried my best to dissuade him along the way.
So now you also have regret. That sucks. Stick to your morals, and just good decisions. I understand you probably think he will get it done even worse somewhere else. Well that would be on him, and his regret. Do what's right man. Trust your gut at all times.

I tried to talk to him about it multiple times before we even got to the stencil, but he was dead set on it. I don't regret doing the tattoo for him, because I did the best job I could. You're probably right, about his expectations of what it would look like being based on how it looked in the movie (the film is The Place Beyond the Pines). Besides the fact that those are only 2 of the tattoos out of the 25-30 that the character has, like you mentioned, the character is played by an incredibly athletic handsome Hollywood superstar. To think you could get 2 random tattoos and that it would make you look like Ryan Gosling is just silly, obviously.

I am artistic and don’t normally think that way with alternative looks, but for some reason the extreme changes in looks/body modifications, that’s what my mind always goes to. That’s the same with extreme plastic surgery too. But I know that might just be my perception

I have always said being poor kept me from so many bad decisions as a kid. Part of that was how inaccessible things like tattoo machines were. Kids can literally have one delivered. I can't imagine how me and my dumb friends would look or be today 😅

I’m a woman, and if I take notice of someone’s tattoo, the last thing I care about is if the tattoo was made by a man or a woman. The gender of the tattoo artist is completely irrelevant to me. All I care about is if the tattoo is good or not.

I took a long time to decide what tattoo on my face and I have a very good face tattoo and am so happy with it. My artist input changed the detail and simplified it so it looks great years later. He has had very good input and I always listen to my artist. (This artist at least)

@@b00tybu77chks yeah but it also didn’t help that I only had 4 hours sleep after the session and had to work the next day. I didn’t really get a chance to sleep it off well. Next time I’ll make sure I’ll get my sessions on a Friday instead of a Monday😂
Right. The problem with most face tattoos isn't that they are on the face but that they are really bad tattoos. On a very visible part of the body.

The tooth tattoo is fake. You can't tattoo into tooth. It's not skin. Where would the ink go? You can see he's wearing something over his tooth in the final shot

teeth have layers, ink goes into the layer under the enamel, and you can see it as enamel is clear (still not a good idea and won't last but it's real)

I can relate with the regret of a good tattoo that you selected and everything and at the end it doesn't feel like you... my trusted tattoo artist does blackwork and fine line so good and I have like five pieces from him and looking to get more because they look so good even after five years.
Then I had this idea for a tattoo that I really wanted, but needed color so I booked another artist and I love it, and then decided to just go forward with another idea with color... and that one... that one I regret so fucking much, the tattoo is ok... heal ok... but it doesn't feel like me and IS sad, I choose that design, I talked with the artist who was lovely, we went back and forth, I was happy with it, but then... while I was driving home I was like: 'I don't like it, it feels weird, I don't like it. I fucked it up, I can't cover it up, is brand new, why did I do this' which I never thought before or even with the first color tattoo.
It sucks, I'm still getting use to it, but I decided to just stick to blackwork which I feel better with from now on.

In the Women and men conflict, i have both kind of tattoos. Both are equally shitty or amazing. It's the person and their skill, and that's nothing to do with gender. (matter of fact, the worst tattoo experience was with a woman, but it was also with a woman that i had the best experience. so yeah it's the person)
However, i can see why women can feel uneasy with a male tattoo artist and i wont blame them for it. We had enough horror stories from pretty notorious tattoo artists and getting a tattoo can involve a lot of nudity, can get pretty stressing and you can easily be pressured into a tattoo you don't want, or in a part you don't wish to tattoo with somebody you find intimating.

16:41 I witnessed this firsthand after I did a throat tattoo on someone.... one of my favorite sad stories to tell.
He came in and wanted the word "handsome" across his knuckles. I chuckled, thinking it was a joke. He was dead serious. I explained to him that knuckle tattoos fade blah blah blah. I did the tattoo. He came in for a touch up a month later, and told me he wanted "hearthrob" across his throat. I laughed, thinking he was joking. Again, he was so serious. I gave him a ridiculous price, and he said he would save up and get back to me. I tried to talk him out of it as well, once he showed me the font.
A month later he comes in, ready for this tattoo. I'm dreading it. The font is all crazy and ignorant style. He has no other visible tattoos besides "handsome" on his knuckles, and I just know it's a bad idea, but he seems really sure that he wants it. We spend about an hour placing the stencil, then get started. I finish it and he goes to look in the mirror. He's poking at it, and stretching his skin, and sighing. He asks "are you going to.... i don't know, make it better?" I asked what he meant, I gave him exactly what he wanted. I asked if it's what he had in mind, and he just kinda shrugged.
I found out later that he was copying Ryan Gosling's tattoos from some movie called "beyond the pines" or something. I haven't seen him since. I'm not sure if he thought he was going to turn into Ryan Gosling after he got these tattoos or not, but I tried my best to dissuade him along the way.

I tried to talk to him about it multiple times before we even got to the stencil, but he was dead set on it. I don't regret doing the tattoo for him, because I did the best job I could. I'm not in any position to tell people what to do with their body or what not to get tattooed
You're probably right, about his expectations of what it would look like being based on how it looked in the movie (the film is The Place Beyond the Pines). Besides the fact that those are only 2 of the tattoos out of the 25-30 that the character has, like you mentioned, the character is played by an incredibly athletic handsome Hollywood superstar. To think you could get 2 random tattoos and that it would make you look like Ryan Gosling is just silly, obviously.
