Okay...Ive been finally convinced to get an F-22. I always loved the aircraft growing up but always said I wanted an F-16 first. But this 80mm has me set on it and your review makes that even more so. Awesome work, and great flying Jon!
I really like your objective and professional evaluation system. It is important that you can remain neutral and point out the shortcomings of the aircraft!
Got the message this morning at 09:05 that its in stock in the EU, 09:10 it was purchased! Thanks Jon for the excellent review as always! When you say the full line-up of F-22s that means you got the 70 aswell?!
Well done for buying the plane for the review ! Excellent video. My only reflection is that it doesn’t serve you well criticising manufacturers for not giving you a free review plane. Rise above it. Keep doing these awesome reviews and they will. This is pretty positive for motion and a good credible review
So, to be clear, "free review plane" is not a very accurate way to describe what we're asking for. When we review a plane that we have to pay for, the advertising revenue *never* offsets the cost. It's always a net loss to buy a plane on this channel, and this is why you rarely see any other large channel buying planes to fly - it makes very little sense as every model aviation channel of this size is attempting to make money, not lose it. A jet that costs $500 like this F-22 may bring back $50 in ad rev. Factor in the costs of man hours for traveling, flying, filming, expertise, editing, community management on Discord/YT/Instagram/Tiktok/Facebook, and keeping to a rigorous schedule of a weekly upload with weekday Shorts uploads, we just barely break even if we're lucky. This is a passion project and we're trying to help the model aviation community. So while your feedback is appreciated, "free review plane" really misses the point. We don't get to just go out every day and have fun. Once your channel is the size of ours and is focused on what we do, you spend your time flying creating content on a schedule. So most of the planes we own end up getting flown once or twice a year unless there's some creative way we can find that makes it worth filming them again before that.
@ Jon to be clear you missed my point. I understand your argument perfectly and I feel for you and value your channel. My only point is that you dwell on not getting a free review plane rather than pointing out the positives of what you do and how you do it. Simply you offer open and transparent reviews that your value prop and by paying for it you put your money in the game. Your message in the video is motion won’t give me one free so I had to buy it. They are similar but the former is more appealing
The reason we moved over to the review system we use now is that it doesn't matter if our "money is in the game" but whether the airframes hit the review criteria. Whether we paid for the F-22 personally, Motion decided to send it, or our community bought it for us to demo changes nothing. The vid would be the same regardless. But your input is definitely appreciated, so don't ever hesitate to speak up and let us know what you think!
nice infos and vid of this.. looks like a blast to fly even 5 mins lots of punching power is more than enough on a lighter side weight pack..bigger pack will take the fun out of it a bit
Looks good and flies good I like the lights cause I’m a light head lol but I still like my 93mm Raptor better 😉🔥 nice review though love the honesty given 🤝
Thanks for the review, even though I hate you now. This is because, after 40 years of flying these expensive toys, I decided to use gyros. Even on planes, I've had for years. Just some light settings make a lot of difference in windy/light gust conditions, even on scale models where you aren't moving the controls a lot. I've had my eye on the 90mm, but the extra details put into the 80mm now have me looking at this. Does anyone know if version two of the 90mm is planned?
No idea if a V2 for the 90 is planned. It's sorely needed though. Gyros at this scale really make a huge difference - especially when you're flying on a fighter jet's CG instead of a Cessna's. At that point, you start seeing what these planes are truly capable of.
At 10.38 You mention about one aileron ribbon cable and that is possible to find more info at discord but i didn't find the right discussion page about what you did there and why. Also would love to see grass takeoffs. Overall very nice review.
It's mentioned in the vid - you need to unhook the signal lead and plug it in to match the port on the setup file for it to fly like ours is demonstrated here.
Can you explain more about why it is a problem to mount the receiver on the side wall at a slight angle as long as the position is in the correct programming format? I did have several great flights setting up this way however I did have a brown out and crashed. I bought another one and rebuilt the crashed one so I have two now I was under the understanding that the receiver position being programmed forward programming does not need to be angled exactly
So what ends up happening is that you'll get pitch up or down responses with yaw input, and roll will induce yaw as well, so it seriously interferes with the stability of the jet. If you get left yaw, the stabs pitch up to compensate, while right yaw pitches down. Definitely not what you want at slower speeds - or at all, really. Receiver position doesn't have to be 100% perfect but it should be as close to the mounting position as possible. Once it deviates beyond 10% it starts introducing cross-input gyro responses.
The jet is beautiful and more beautiful than the YF-23. I believe its beautiful design was attributed to maneuverability by design and coincidentally stealthy as well.
Come on Jon, do I buy this now, or fix up my 90mm or wait for a 90mm V2? I can't wait til March!! LOL I really like the easily removable wings and the ease of modding this one. Not sure I want to spend the time on my current 90mm.
We'd suggest waiting, the amount of work it takes to put lights and gear doors into the 90 really isn't worth the effort in our view. It flies great, but it's missing a lot of the niceties of current-gen airplanes.
Any issues with the gear doors? Mine took some work to get to sit flush, i am wondering if its just mine or not... Gorgeous looking plane, i am really excited to get mine out!
I was told that this plane has a heavier wingload than other 80mm edf jets, which makes it more difficult to land. I personally think it's kind of cg problem that often happens to 70mm yak130
@TwoBrosRC of course buddy. Thank you for your honest opinion. Greatly appreciate you taking the time to offer all the information that you do. Your doing great things for the rc community 👏👏👏
Habu SS 70 6S rather than STS 70 3-4S... The STS comes with a cursed "Flight controller" receiver that will try to kill your plane someday months into owning it, and it's underpowered.
Probably fine from what we've seen, but these smaller jets with smaller wheels and intricate gear doors don't work as well on grass unless it's kept incredibly short and rolled often.
@@TwoBrosRC yea but its not my understanding of PNP really. if i wanted to work on models, i would work on my mephisto or flex innovation stuff. i just like to fly really fast with the pnp edf's, thats why i got the mirage
I'm so much in love with those planes, but I cannot justify risking 500 usd on flying piece of foam which can crash so easily and would be most likely unrepairable after. Hence why I am sticking to FPV drones, but maybe one day. 🥲 For now I can just stick to watching all those cool planes on Your vids.

Love that you've started putting clips of what the next review will be at the end of videos. Great review thanks for your time and dedication
Glad you're enjoying the little sneak peeks!
Agreed, end credit scenes are now required in everything 😂
Agreed! Everyone loves a preview of what's coming next!
Fingers crossed Freewing learn from the 80s release and bring out the 90mm V2 with the same bells and whistles asap.
that rounded up landing was something else, youre humble, its not just a good plane, you are a great pilot as well!
yup. that's it. I need one of those
Outstanding Jon! Great plane, and excellent flying! Thank you for the review!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Great flying as always TBRC! I learn a lot from your content, God bless you
Great review and nice tipps. Always great to see the massive details of the latest RTF EDF Jets :)
Your landings have become so realistic looking. Makes me want to go out and practice landing more often.

Yeah, me too.......I need one. Great vid brother!
Wow awesome and precise review Jon! I love my F-22 90mm but your review makes me feel like I need this one as well 😂
Thanks for sharing 🤘🏻🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it. It's a great jet, for sure!
3:33 nice roll out timing!
Very nice. Deleting the 90mm from the next "NEW" acquisition, and insert the 80mm. I hope and pray for the 80mm or 90mm F-35 to come out this year!

@@TwoBrosRC thank you so much. Are you using throttle based gains?
Always.
I'm not new to flying rc planes but new to EDF. I hope this 80mm makes a good EDF trainer because thats my reason for buying one.
Definitely isn't a trainer. Don't go into it thinking like that.
@TwoBrosRC What would you recommend from E-Flite or Motion RC? I don't want something too beginner'ish.

Cmon freewing... update the SU35 already....
Looks like it flies well. Might be worth putting on the list this year.
Ahem...Spitfire is the Queen of the Sky
🆗
Great vid The EMAX HV servos will work on the 5v supplied by the stock ESC?
Yup, they work just fine, but 6v would be preferable if you're willing to isolate the power from the gear retracts.
Woot woot

25mm behind the marks as mentioned in the vid. Thanks!

Nope, none that we saw.
How many takes was that!?!?! That was beautiful 😍
We tend to do several touch and go flights per review just to get a feel for how the plane lands and to improve technique.
@TwoBrosRC it was more of a joke, that's 1 in a hundred attempts for me. Great flying mr
I was told that this plane has a heavier wingload than other 80mm edf jets, which makes it more difficult to land. I personally think it's kind of cg problem that often happens to 70mm yak130

@@TwoBrosRC Definitely gonna buy one lol
So if I am reading between the lines a revised 90MM is due out in March?

5 minutes of flight time... wow.. that is worth it alone!
Mixed throttle, of course!

What makes her better than the 90mm? I got the 90mm for Xmas and then they come out with the 80mm with lights.
You'll see in March!
@ can't wait to see your comparison video in March.
How much runway would you say this would need?
What you're seeing in this vid is 300ft long.
1:55 Did bro just pull a bell?
Naw. It's a cobra spin.
Is it good for first time EDF jet?
Nope. Too expensive, too many features to work around. Try a Habu instead.

Well done sir! 🫡🫡 having done similar mods to mine and performing most of these maneuvers with it, I totally agree with everything said here! 👏👏🤝🤝

???
Can I get the setup data for the 10 channel please?
It's on Discord as mentioned in the vid. discord.gg/twobrosrc - look for the Spektrum radio setups channel.
I need to know how to get into this.
ua-cam.com/video/siviLeeHL1A/v-deo.html
grass field compatible ?
Yes, if it's incredibly short grass that's being maintained regularly.
@ so basically… no ;)
Thanks ! Great flying
also the 80mm looks more scale than the 90. the nose wheel is way too big on the 90
The 90 was designed in the "everything has to be grass capable regardless of how it looks" era of Freewing.
@ i know! but thats the reason why i dont want it. same for the gripen with its reversed nose gear. i want mine to look scale
You can replace the nosewheel and mains. That's what we did with ours.
