I remember reading somewhere that Bud Abbott was manager of the National Theater for a few years before he met Lou Costello and became famous, also The Three Stooges performed there with Shemp not sure what year, it should be saved and restored for those reasons alone.

What a shame it has been left to such a state of neglect and decay. Interesting architecture on the outside and was once very elegant on the inside. Should be restored.

What a glorious time it must have been to be alive when these beautifully built buildings were still new.

In the 70's and 80's it hosted many great rock n roll bands. The history of this place is amazing. What a shame to see it now. But thanks for the tour it brings back memories.

Great work RR! Your usual backstory with the current plans for the building as an update coupled with the awesome shots you captured made for a really awesome episode! It’s amazing how bits of the beauty of the original structure surivive, even in its current state of decay. Thank you!👍🏼🤘🏼😎

I just ripped you in a comment reply on a DMV you did but have to say, this is a Masterpiece. Seriously. Great camera work, video and still. Your additions of historical material, visual blending, and music are perfect. Great framing, subject, and light. Thank you! And sorry.

As always, another wonderful video that makes checking my subscription box a joy every Saturday! Your explorations of the National kinda reminded me of footage from expeditions to sunken liners, amidst all the destruction of time and elements you'll suddenly see a beautiful preserved door or feature linking you to the past.

Great video RR!! Too bad the Theater couldn't be saved, too many Michigan winters. There's also the Fox theater district, love it when you superimpose the old photos with the current state of the building.👍👍👍

They should restore it to the porn theater greatness it was in the 1970s. We need to go out in public to watch the movies again.

Is this the same theater where for many years, there was a curtain in front of the stage with the word "ASBESTOS" in huge letters?
No joke. In the age of Vaudeville, people were more worried about burning than cancer (See Iroquois Theater, Chicago).
If it wasn't this theater, it was one very close by.

If I couldn't get any action in the theater when the porn was showing or the dancers were not offering, I would have brought in some women of the street to do stuff.

Hey, you got you're title right. This is actually in the city of Detroit. Unlike your video about the Star Theatre which is in Taylor.

What happened then was normal. But I do not know if this is. How can anything be normal until people don’t care anymore? It seems like people do, so this can’t be.
