I think Mouse is a perfect name. To me it means "Greatness can come from small and unexpected places". In all these videos, people never expect this handsome black man to start speaking their languages, much less smaller dialects, and it always puts a smile on their face. Everyone is always so appreciative that someone would take the time and passion to learn their languages. Even a mouse can show love, compassion, and teach you something valuable. RIP Laoshu. Truly like a Master Splinter to so many.
Laoshu is the reason why I have recently made the decision to strengthen my Spanish. I have been coasting on what I learned from school, but he is the proof that you don't need school to learn languages. This time next year I hope to be way more fluent in Spanish than I am today.

hey there hope you went through with strengthening your Spanish. I learned some Espanol on the computer and then practiced what I learned with my customers and coworkers and learned a heck of alot more. Years later at a job interview one of the managers interviewing me spoke to me in Spanish and I replied back in Spanish and he was blown away saying I had all the pronounciation like I was from there, honestly that part really made me remember those times where my customers helped me learn the language. Its so cool to learn languages

In my humble opinion, whoever edited this video deserves the win Laoshu. This dude includes a conversation with an Asian man zpeak about the struggle we go through in this country. I never even knew you had this conversation with a China man of all people. I swear I was talking out loud while agreeing with the man when he recommended why you should change your name. Very strategic of the editor of this video to put that at the end. Give him the winner "Lion"!!!
Although i took 9 years of Spanish starting in 4th grade, it is because of Laoushu that i decided to start learning Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean. Dude was an inspiration to many. RIP.

@@kagura-423 the black death was likely started and was spread by rats (because the fleas carried the disease and rats would bring them everywhere), so i understand. this video just made me realize how seriously chinese people take names. like everything is dragon, or tiger, or something fierce or brings good luck and fortune. i didnt realize until i saw how obsessed the hmong man was about ethnic pride

I agree with the Chinese guy at the end, I have never understood why Moses is very proud to call himself “mouse”.
I would rather think that if he changed it out of fear what others might think of his name, that this would be more proof of a "weaker" character.
I like that he wears his Mouse name proudly and can appreciate him holding his head up high despite of what others might think...thats their issue, not his!

@@xpabz I feel like they (generalization) pay attention more to the symbolism for animals, year of the 'x' etc - whereas Moses just thinks it's a friendly nickname.
Tiger= bragging, totally unremarkable nickname for large American guy. Mouse= humble and hilarious conversation starter for large American guy.

Aww man, I also think LaoShu, in Cantonese mostly, very closely reseembles "teacher" and in a way you are a language teacher. This also is a great arguement to keep your name, but I do see the older mans point.

Oh snap, I just realized that Moses and Mouse are kind of pronounced and spelled similarly. Just without the "u" and and extra "s" added in. Someone with an accent could definitely be saying Moses differently. I've watched that Hmong video before but it didn't click until just now that your name is Laoshu because Moses and Mouse sound similar.

It's so cool to watch Moses in action from a far for a change instead of from his body camera.
I like how comfortable u make others-. Individuals that are immigrants I just noticed how safe they looked when you interact in thier language.

Obviously everyone knows the backstory too why Moses is named mouse but some foreigners might not. His name is supposed to be meaningfully ironic. A name that is meek but a man that is great (in knowledge and height). Besides, a native English speaker who converses with others in their tongue is a sign of humility that is lost to western culture (mostly because we aren’t that smart lol). Mouse is a fitting name in my opinion and a perfect interest catcher.
I agree with this I think it suits him in an indirect way. It seems like (from watching Moses' videos) that other cultures take names and the meaning behind them a lot more seriously than native English speakers. Always interesting to see the reaction to his nickname and how offended some people get by it haha

When it said Indonesian, were they speaking the Bataknese dialect? I couldn't tell if she meant that they were speaking it then or that they speak it where she comes from. I feel like if it was a specific dialect Moses would have mentioned that he learned it specifically but I don't know and I'm still curious.
Hi, there. They were not actually speaking Indonesian with Bataknese dialect. They were speaking Indonesian that we (Indonesians) use in our daily basis. The woman, however, explains that she comes from Batak where people there have a certain dialect. Hope it helps.
You are an intelligent smart man to have the ability to learn all of these languages. I do wish your titles didn't always have to refer to you being black. As a black man myself, the fact that you have the talent to do this is what should be emphasized, and not the fact that you are black. I get that people are surprised by seeing your accomplishments in action right before their very eyes and how shocking this must be for them but nevertheless, talented people are people first, and whatever group they belong to second.
