My friend kept bees and he would say, “A swarm in May is worth a bale of hay; a swarm in June is worth a silver spoon; and a swarm in July ain’t worth a fly.” 😂 People would call him to come get swarms that had landed on their property. He would take a bee box in the evening, find the Queen and gently put her in the box and the rest of the bees would follow. Fascinating! Once he saw a swarm coming down a road and grabbed a spoon and washtub and began banging. He said that it breaks up their rhythm and they have to land. It was so interesting to watch him and learn…plus delicious honey! I hope you enjoy this new venture! 🐝

When I was a little girl we had a swarm of bees in our back yard. Fortunately for the bees a member of our church was a bee keeper. He came and took them to his house.

    Dearest Catherine,
I am a very new subscriber. I discovered your channel and have been binge-watching while recovering these last two months from covid.
You are beautiful, strong, creative, hardworking, independent, entertaining, intelligent, talented, thoughtful and grounded, and I love your chatty videos. Thank you for the breath of fresh air you bring and for the hours of company you have given me.
As a cat lover myself, I have fallen in love with your new kittens, and cried over your past loss. My own Irish heritage makes your vlogs particularly sentimental to me. I do a bit of diy, a bit of gardening, a wee bit of hand sewing, and I love to bargain hunt. Congratulations on your two books! Maybe someday you can come to Canada and we'll share a pot of tea :)
I have lots to say, but I will contain myself at the moment. Suffice it to say that you inspired me to get up from my sick bed and order some seeds yesterday, which magically arrived today, inspiring hopeful daydreams of springtime (zone 5a).
    xo 💜

It's been a long winter Catherine!. So great to see the spring flowers popping their little heads up this spring again and getting back out to the garden and listening to the glorious birdsong. Am in stillorgan and that was some snow on friday! Curtailed my gardening plans for the day.
Good luck with your bee course. I did one in the phoenix park and just love the incredibly fascinating life of the bees. Decided to postpone keeping hives till I'm older as it's hard to travel....they take a fair bit of care...unless you can share care with another beekeeper.

So nice to see the blooming begin once again. Here in the US, it is warming up but we have chilly days always when I want to go out it rains. Basically, we had no winter if you call two days of deep snow with it melting during the day. I am ready to tackle the front of the yard and then the back. Too early for grass cutting just yet. I bought an electric lawn mower and like it very much. Same brand but on a bigger scale for my yard size. The daffodils are pushing up and I see some blooms on the hydrangea. Thank you for the lovely video see you next week.

It does my heart good to watch this video and see all the signs that Spring is coming. At this moment it is -7 C and snowing in Vermont, USA. The wind is blowing making it feel much colder. We have at least 12 inches of snow everywhere and deeper amounts where it has drifted. However...I know that under there somewhere the plants are waiting for their moment to emerge again and start blooming. Thank you for all you do and Blessings to you Catherine.

The raised bed caps look very nice. It seems nice to set a mug and maybe even sit on it. I wonder if birds and other critters will like to sit there and enjoy the garden. My food garden is in the ground in the back field. I'm developing landscape beds around my property for the pretty bushes, shrubs, trees, and flowers, all those are in ground. I don't have raised beds but yours are lovely and perfect for your sweet little back yard. I love the greenhouse and that cute little tool shed too. Happy gardening! I'm so happy for you that you are enjoying and learning about bees. I've taken many courses over the years through our county extension office also visited local bee keepers. A friend of mine keeps bees, she used to go catch swarms when people called her but since her husband passed away I think she stopped catching swarms for other people and just takes care of her own hives. She sells some of the honey she gets from her hives as well as the vegetables from her garden.

I like the way the raise bed came out very nice . I’m so happy to see you working on your garden again it will get prettier and prettier and bloom just like it always is during the summer ! I can’t wait to get mine starter we are still very cold here in New Jersey but just getting started and knowing spring is around the corner flowers will be blooming it’s such a joy I also have a lot of birds in my yard that’s where I go to relax ! Lovely video Catherine ! As always I enjoyed it ❤!

Wow! The raised bed toppers look great! I can’t believe how much green you already have in your garden!!!!! Everything is still brown where I live. I can’t wait to see how your garden develops this year.

You really do get an early spring there! What a treat to see your bulbs emerge. Regarding your new mower, I, coincidentally, ordered the same one a few days ago and it's being delivered tomorrow! It's nice to see how easy it is to push.
Looking forward to a full season of your gardening videos! 🌺 🌼☘️🌷🌻

If the hose split isn't long cut it off and reattach until you find another tube. It won't reach the bottom but at least it will work. I love the garden beds new bench topper. Really dresses up the garden. Nice new mower. We have battery mower also. The battery charges quick and you can easily mow on one charge. Nice tidy up. Yes you need to be a beekeeper assistant. Go catch a swarm and make your own hive. (well I would leave that to the experts) Happy Leap Day from Texas on a cold rainy day.

Thanks for the heads up re; patio cleaner. Found cheapest is Amazon at the minute, 3 for £25.58. Have a large area to do, so this was great for me.☺Goodness knows when I'll be able to get started outside, it's done nothing but rain for weeks, the garden is absolutely saturated...getting a bit stir crazy round about now!!😂 You've transformed your garden over the years, and it is so pretty and cottagey. Roll on the better weather hey?🥰

I was unsure what Teasels are, so I looked them up. It seems they are regarded as a noxious, invasive weed, with spikes that can cut you! However, pollinators love them. 🐝🐝🐝

I have a Ryobi leaf blower it’s amazing one of the best investment in the garden I use it all the time. When my patrol mower dies I’m also gonna get a Ryobi electric one too 😊
