I agree with everything you said and there is not enough space for all my sockets. Went back to the socket rail that can actually hold all my 1/2 sockets.
I got just the 1/4" from Lowe's after the other style fell into an eng bay and I had to find all the sockets. It was convenient and didn't take up much space. I got the other sizes and don't like them nearly as much but use them for my impacts that don't fit in a regular tray
I've got those magnetic ones, and I think they're just fine. Other than taking up a little extra space compared to some others, they dont move around, and they're pretty durable/not easily knocked around. I dont like the peg type because they break much easier. A lot of guys are switching to the Ernst Boss socket rail trays with the twist-lock type socket holders, including myself. They're the best I've ever used, and they're between $22 to $24 for each two rail tray. They're also made in the USA. But I hardly ever pay full price for anything at Harbor Freight. Between the Inside Track Club promotions and coupons, there's no need. I'm pretty sure I only paid around $14 or so each for my 3/8 magnetic trays there.

Yeah reading things is not to common these days, just like common sense
If you can't look at a socket and know the size you ain't no mechanic
