I'm from germany and when I went to my first basketball game with friends, we were standing right behind a big group of hardcore fans with drums, chanting, horns etc. They were rooting for our local team and when they won, everyone went crazy (in a positive sense). It was incredible!

I was a respectable American child who lived in England from 8-12. I liked Space Jam. I went to a England game and there was sort of a vague terror to the whole thing. Like even when England scored, the joy was kinda menacing. Menace permeated. I think if a kid goes to a haunted house on Halloween here in the states he’ll get some of the same feeling.

I'm from germany and when I went to my first basketball game with friends, we were standing right behind a big group of hardcore fans with drums, chanting, horns etc. They were rooting for our local team and when they won, everyone went crazy (in a positive sense). It was incredible!

Its pretty much like this:
Americans: chants, songs and entertainment is controlled, regulated and enforced by the console guy/DJ in the stadium. Playing a mixture of traditional, basic, generic, repetitive chants.
Europeans: The crowd controls everything, nothing is impossed nor controlled by the stadium speaker. Its just the fans singing their guts out with passion for their team. Which makes it Beautiful.

I was a respectable American child who lived in England from 8-12. I liked Space Jam. I went to a England game and there was sort of a vague terror to the whole thing. Like even when England scored, the joy was kinda menacing. Menace permeated. I think if a kid goes to a haunted house on Halloween here in the states he’ll get some of the same feeling.

I live in Germany and let me tell you… here it's football or nothing, the energy in each stadium is wild, even if you’re watching from home.
A few years ago there was a literal fight going on with two different football team fans, outside of a stadium.
In europe it really is war when it comes to sport.

I know basketball isn't as big as soccer here but it IS roughly the second most popular sport by now. And while flares and the like aren't allowed, the passion and chanting is the same :)
