Can you answer a few things about this? I currently use the DJI Ronin-SC for my M50 (The only one I use on the gimbal). I have 3 extremely important things that I can't see the gimbal in this video having. 1) Digital follow focus. I have the focus wheel and use the cable to connect the M50 to the gimbal. This allows the gimbal itself, via the focus wheel add on, to pull focus without adding one of those large follow focus motors onto the lens, and no extra set up outside of the one cable that plugs into the camera. 2) Quick release. I use the same Neewer brand quick release plates, that are not very large, meaning I can easily quickly change my camera battery. The one on the gimbal in the video is horizontally SUPER long, and you have to remove it every time you need to change the battery, or hell, every time you change where you want to put the camera. Whereas I basically never have to take mine off because all of my things have the base plate for that it. 3) Lenses. I think you're using the Kit lens, no? I film where there's a lot of distracting people in the background (cosplay at conventions), so I NEED the 1.8 aperture of the Sigma 30mm, which is REALLY heavy. So I'm gonna just assume that this gimbal can't handle that? I don't know for sure. Also, something you should be aware of..You timed yourself putting it together and putting the camera on it. Well..I just did with mine. It takes exactly the same amount of time. The difference, is if I had that gimbal, I would have to remove my quick release plate, and attach that one to it. So it actually takes a good 10 seconds LONGER to use that gimbal, than it does to use mine (not counting balancing, since you also didn't count that).I feel like if I left the plate locked onto the gimbal, and added my Neewer Quick Release plate base, it'd then be far too heavy for the gimbal, as well as at that point it's a good 1/4-1/2inch taller, meaning the back motor likely can no longer allow me to go low. Or at the very least, it looks like the vertical balance adjustment has nearly no room left to account for that added height if I were to add that system to it. Also, as I mentioned, I use the Sigma 30mm lens for the low aperture as it's basically required to blur the distracting people in the background due to the run and gun nature of filming cosplayers at conventions and not always being able to go somewhere else and have to film where you are. That lens, coupled with the Neewer quick release plate, which are both pretty heavy, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say this gimbal will absolutely NOT hold my setup. But I can't find information on my exact problems, and I'm not about to spend that kind of money on something that I have no idea if it's even gonna work for my needs.
I really enjoyed your ef-m lenses review but I really loved this video as well. I hardly subscribe to too many camera youtubers but here I am subscribing!! Keep making great vids!!
Thanks for the great info. I got this 2 weeks ago after watching Your review and from your link :) it’s by far the best gimbal I have used. Not too heavy and works good with A7c and a6400. I mainly use it with A7c.
I don’t usually subscribe tech-bloggers because always I think there is something in between a company and bloggers, but my feeling is about you is honestly positive, thank you , I definitely follow you.
Mark, do these gimbals work with zoom lenses, as in if I wanted to use it to record sports with a zoom lens, can it zoom in and out or do you have to do that manually ?
Would a Canon M50 in a SmallRig cage still fit in the M3? I need the cage to add an external Anker power bank as the normal battery life with the standard Canon battery is abysmal. Swapping them out all the time would be a PITA. So I'd like to use the SmallRig. What do you think?
The size is the FIRST THING I noticed in your thumbnail. I currently own a Ronin SC. I got the Ronin on sale because it looked like the best on the market at the time, but I think it's too robust for MY needs. This is looking like the perfect compromise of quality, function, and size. I think it would he dope to do a whole video comparing the two.
Yea, it is crazy small, like a phone gimbal really. If I had a SC I would make that video. I have a Weebill 2 coming, and will compare that at some point.
Hey guys, the gimbal looks great, can it handle bigger lenses going with the m50? For example the sigma 18-35 1.8 it's a pretty hefty one. Would it work with it? Or like the Canon/Sigma 17-50 2.8? Also pretty hefty ones
thanks for making the video. I can't figure out how to record by pressing a button on the gimbal so that my m50 Mark ii starts recording. I need to hit the record button on the camera itself. is it possible?
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope. As such a fierce champion of both the Canon M50 and now, the Crane M3, I'm hoping you can resolve my issue with their use together. I have a Canon M50 MKII and bought the Crane M3 (partly at your recommendation) to use with my Rokinon 12mm. Although that lens is not on the accepted list that Zhiyun posts, it is under the weight of some of the others they do. Besides, I keep hearing how powerful and robust the Crane M3's motors are. So I was confident there wouldn't be any problem. However, I still keep running into this problem out of the gate: I am able to balance the gimbal quite perfectly according to all the tutorial videos I’ve watched. I turn it on and Auto-Calibrate it, as instructed and it’s always "successful". The balance appears to be perfect, according to the display. But when I go to use it, the gimbal starts vibrating and then beeps before shutting down (as a safety measure, I assume). I have also tried all the torque settings (as was suggested in a couple of troubleshooting videos) with no success. All axes are balanced yet it still vibrates and shuts off. It seems to happen more when the tilt motor is engaged (i.e., angling forward). If I keep the gimbal at 90 degrees, the vibration doesn’t happen, or is minimal. But I should be able to move the gimbal at any angle or what’s the point. I’ve also seen in videos (maybe even yours) where they suggest it’s better to use the gimbal at a slight forward angle to keep the tilt motor engaged for stability. In general today, I was able to keep it going for longer (a few minutes) before it shut off but it did eventually shut off. I did try a lighter lens (Canon ef-m 22mm) rebalanced, and although it didn’t shut off, there was still some vibration. I have contacted Zhiyun and they're trying to help but so far their suggestions haven't yielded a solution. I am more than frustrated and at a loss when I don’t see anyone else having this problem and can find very little posted about it online. So, if you can help in any way, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks for the great content. Warren
What about putting camera cage on, external microphone, maybe led light for evening and bigger brighter lens like sigma 16mm 1.4. Is still possible to use the gimbal?
Love the content in this and so many of your other videos, thank you so much for your practical insights. Luckily I saw your Amazon Prime video in time late last night and was able to get the deal on the gimbal combo! I have a question: in this video you show a LowePro bag at timestamp 1:55 -- that looks like a great bag for my size kit. What model bag is that?
Hi Mark. Thanks for the video. Very well done. I have the Canon M50 Mark II and it looks like everything is working in your video, but there isn’t even one Canon camera on the compatibility list I found online. Do all of the camera controls work for you (start/stop, zoom, etc.)? Thanks! Josh
No, you can’t control the M50 with the cable on the M3, the cheaper M2S can do this, but I still prefer the M3 ergonomics, build, and power. I never used the cable on the gimbals, even when they can control stop/start record.
I hear quite a few pro videographers saying they don't use gimbals or haven't used them. I feel like this may be a silly question, but, how are they getting perfectly smooth footage? Thanks in advance🌸
It really depends on the type of content you are creating. There is nothing wrong with handheld video, and even Hollywood uses lots of hand held shots in big films. If you want those super smooth, flying through space, type shots, you need a gimbal.
I work with an M6 Mark II, I imagine it's ideal for her too. Can it handle the M6 MK II with a Sigma 16mm? And he can't stand any DLSR right? Or R6, R5...?
Have you tried the weebill S with the m50 along with Sigma 16? I just ordered the Crane M3 but have since seen that it barely works, and if you add nd filter it may push it past its limits. I have zero experience with Gimbals. Wondering if Weebill may be a better fit for me. Love your videos!
This gimbal is powerful enough, and I have used it, but you don’t get the full range of motion because the evf hits the gimbal motor if you try to go into an underslung position.
Hello Mark. I was thinking to buy this gimbal for family videos but there is a problem. In underslung mode it is not possible to use external mic. It seems that underslung mode is essential for kids. Is there any solution for this. Some kind of camera attachment that would relocate the mic. A solution that would allow full range of motion. The camera will be Sony a6400, Canon m6 II or Fuji xe4. And here are some ideas for future videos. Comparison of Zhiyun Crane M3 and DJI Ronin SC. DJI is older, cheaper and heavier but have automatic object tracking. FDH video comparison of Canon m50 or m6 II and Fuji xt4. The best audio solution for family videos. It seems to me that stereo audio recorder is better solution for this than shotgun mic. Something like Sony PCM-A10 or Roland R-07. Good content, great nature Thank you
The only Solution I know of is to the flip the gimbal, check my Crane M3 with Sigma 16mm Video, that may or may not work. Even the big pro gimbals have the same issue with going underslung with a mic on top.
Can you still use the modes when you are in vertical mode? For example I want to film something for Tiktok and I want to get the smooth following and pan shots as I would with horizontal display. Does it work with the vertical mode?
The vertical mode is its own mode, I think it's either a follow or pan follow mode. There may be a work around to use the other modes as vert, but I'm not sure.
I use a moza mini-p gimbal....for me a cheaper alternative to the crane, what I like is that I can control thru the app on the phone...on the camera I use a 22mm for its lens...
Just curious, is it relatively easy (or learn with experience to) use the ‘follow your phone motion’ to film yourself? I film by myself a lot, but if I could add some motions it like someone else is recording it would be really great for that price point and size. Great work on all these m50 videos. It’s greatly appreciated.
No, I don't think it is suitable for that. At least right now, they do have some further updates coming, including how it will wirelessly integrate with Sony and Canon Cameras, it's possible that those updates might give the functionality you are looking for (possibly a tracking function, like some of their other gimbals), but as it is now, it's not well suited to that purpose.
@@markwiemels awesome thank you for the response, really appreciate it. Is there any other gimbals you’d recommend for this by chance? Definitely something I’d like to have in the near future. Keep up the awesome work!
@@ShawnyBGolf I know the Weebill 2 can do it, if you have the image transmission kit. I should have a review of this setup by the end of January, early February.
I think you should have included a section showcasing the ability of the gimbal with a different lenses, so many doing the review but very less people really showing what kind of lens we can use with this gimbal. as M50 is a small body I'm not sure how much weight we can put on.
You made a compelling video about why ef-m isn't likely to be EOL'd.... But as more time goes on it feels like it will happen, Canon Rumors suggest a rf apsc in early 2022 - if or when that happens i really want to hear your whole decision making process for if or when you upgrade
Kind of, it doesn’t have the partial lockdown point, like the M3. So you can fold it down in the same way, but not lock the arm in that part fold down position, it would bounce or flop around unless you secure it somehow.
@@markwiemels one other question. Do you know the weight in grams? I keep finding conflicting info online. Your videos are great btw. Extremely helpful
Hi I am using the gimbal with an m50, connected via usb. Problem: I can’t start recording, neither via the button on the camera nor via the red minus button on the gimbal. I can’t figure out what’s wrong.
@@Schnabbel7102 it’s not the big deal you might think. I have cameras that can be cable controlled, and I don’t even bother setting it up, I just used the button on the camera.
I’m assuming you are talking about the smallrig cage? I’m not sure, but I have been taking the cages off my cameras to use them in the gimbal. There is not a lot of clearance, because it’s such a small gimbal.
There is a camera and lens compatibility list on Zhiyun’s website. I have used it with up to the sigma 16mm, but you don’t get full range of motion with that lens, I made a video about it.
I don't understand the point of vlogging or anything of that nature but this was a good video and nice review of the gimbal. I saw your content due to M50 stuff and liking your content.
@@markwiemels I just purchased a second hand M3 for my M50 Mark II. But if I am no mistaken, I cannot controll the camera's shutter or something right with this Gimble?
What a genuine legend! Thank you for the help and guidance; been watching a bunch of your videos consecutively.... Wormwholing.... Your content is Comprehensive, Concise and Genuine! Love It
@@jennifermarin2644 can’t start or stop recording or change settings. For me, that’s not a big issue, award winning movies have been produced with out this function. Basically you hit a button on the gimbal, instead of one on the camera. Right now you can start and stop recoding in sony cameras only.
That sucks. That’s one of the main reasons I am not happy with the ronin sc. the SC needs a 90 degree adapter to be able to even connect the cable which is ridiculous. The fact that we don’t have wireless control of the camera yet is crazy…
It can, but with a limited range of motion. I will try to make a follow up video covering this in the next few days.

Mark, you have GREAT videos and they helped me a lot in choosing the equipment for my own youtube channel. Thank you very much, I wish you the best and I will keep enjoying your suggestions here! (BTW, I sent you an email in case you don't read this).
The camera control doesn't bother me, but they have said there is an update coming that allows control of the camera. It's not clear if that will be an extra or included.
Mark I'm disappointed in this video I don't mean to sound rude but with that much money talking 400 euros plus in Europe at least be honest about the thing and specify that it can not support the Sigma 16mm and the other heavier lens that most people use no wonder you used the kit lens. No one uses the kit lens for cinematic videos and that is what makes this gimbal limited to only lens like the kit Lens. I bought this and I was so disappointed that it couldn't support my sigma 16mm.
I actually published a follow up video to cover the weight limit/compatible lenses. The Sigma 16mm really is the big lens the gimbal does not support. The reason I was using the kit lens is that 90%+ of M50 users only own the kit lens. So many of my M50 videos feature the kits lens for that reason. As a side note, the EF-M 22mm and 32mm work on the gimbal, and they are arguably more cinematic than a wide angle like 16mm.

Good content, great nature
Thank you
The only Solution I know of is to the flip the gimbal, check my Crane M3 with Sigma 16mm Video, that may or may not work. Even the big pro gimbals have the same issue with going underslung with a mic on top.
how much payload can it gold if I upgrade my m50 with bigger more advance lenses
?
I have a video about this on the M3 playlist, it is someone limited.
Do you think it can hold the m50 with a 1000g lens? (Sigma 18-35mm f1.8) + (adapter) 😪
No, it won’t. Maybe the Weebill s or Weebill 2.
@@markwiemels awesome thank you so much!!! I’ll look into it and can’t wait to see what you have to say!
Can you add a wireless video transmitter to it
My guy, you should have more subscribers. Keep up the good work!
I appreciate that!
I have M50 and sigma 16 MM, This gimbal is supported?
I have a video about this on the channel.
I have weebill 2 used on camera M6 mark 2.It vibrate with kit lens 15 -45
so you can film vertically with this gimbal right?
Yes
Abrupt ending but thanks for another great video! I will keep an eye on your weebill 2 review
Yes, I have all the test footage, the 2 is a great Gimbal, video not far off.
I think you should have included a section showcasing the ability of the gimbal with a different lenses, so many doing the review but very less people really showing what kind of lens we can use with this gimbal. as M50 is a small body I'm not sure how much weight we can put on.
There is a list of lenses and body combos on the Zhiyun website.
@@markwiemels yeah but paperwork doesnt do the justice all the time. But loved watching your review anyways.
I'm wanting to buy my very fist gimbal. Thank you so much. Your vids as always very informative.
You are most welcome, check out the Crane M2S as well.
You made a compelling video about why ef-m isn't likely to be EOL'd.... But as more time goes on it feels like it will happen, Canon Rumors suggest a rf apsc in early 2022 - if or when that happens i really want to hear your whole decision making process for if or when you upgrade
I think it's possible, but still think it's unlikely, at least in the next year or so. I would love to see an RF mount camera at the M50 price point!
if i user big lens, example M50 + Sigma 16mm + crane m3 , that would be balance ?
There is a video about this on my channel.
Can it follow for example moon whille taking long exposure?
No.
Where is video on how to calibrate ?
Hi Mark, can the m2s also break down quickly without the need to rebalance, like you did with this M3?
Kind of, it doesn’t have the partial lockdown point, like the M3. So you can fold it down in the same way, but not lock the arm in that part fold down position, it would bounce or flop around unless you secure it somehow.
@@markwiemels thank you! Super helpful
@@markwiemels one other question. Do you know the weight in grams? I keep finding conflicting info online. Your videos are great btw. Extremely helpful
Have you tried M3 with M50 and sigma 18-35? I understand It sounds werid, but... maybe 🙂
No way that would balance.
Do you thing it Can it balance the m50 with a 55-250 lens plus the viltorx adaptor
No, it wouldn’t.
@@markwiemelsor the 50m 1.8 plus the adaptor? 🥺
I would think so, but have not tested it.
Hi I am using the gimbal with an m50, connected via usb.
Problem: I can’t start recording, neither via the button on the camera nor via the red minus button on the gimbal.
I can’t figure out what’s wrong.
The M50 can’t be cable controlled (the camera itself), using the M50 you just push the record button on the camera as normal.
@@markwiemels oh. Okay. That’s a pity. But thank you for the lightning fast answer!
@@Schnabbel7102 it’s not the big deal you might think. I have cameras that can be cable controlled, and I don’t even bother setting it up, I just used the button on the camera.
sir, can you please review canon m50 mark II with Ziyun M2S with all cable connected.
Probably wont be able to make that specific video, but that combo will work well.
Recomendarías el Ronin SC para la M50 Mark ll?
Gracias
Probably overkill for the M50. I would look at the Weebill S.
Would this be able to use with the smallrig?
I’m assuming you are talking about the smallrig cage? I’m not sure, but I have been taking the cages off my cameras to use them in the gimbal. There is not a lot of clearance, because it’s such a small gimbal.
Can you still use this with bigger lenses on the M50 ?
There is a camera and lens compatibility list on Zhiyun’s website. I have used it with up to the sigma 16mm, but you don’t get full range of motion with that lens, I made a video about it.
How to connect directly canon m50 that we can use the trigal from the gimbal.
If you mean, start and stop video, they are still working on that feature. Right now you just use the normal shutter button on the camera.
@@markwiemels oic.. cause ill just seen its only work for sony sir
Thanks for a great video!
You are most welcome.
We are still talking about this camera. Future proof. So happy with it. Milk this before I grab an A7IV.
That Sony does look cool.
I don't understand the point of vlogging or anything of that nature but this was a good video and nice review of the gimbal. I saw your content due to M50 stuff and liking your content.
Thanks.
will it handle the m50 with larger ef lenses
No, not well. Look at the Weebill S for that.
I think this is the longest video talking about that gimbal. Well done! Crane M3 and M50 are perfect couples.
Thanks you, yes, its a great combo!
@@markwiemels I just purchased a second hand M3 for my M50 Mark II. But if I am no mistaken, I cannot controll the camera's shutter or something right with this Gimble?
@@bschalker correct.
I wouldn’t worry about it, I personally never use that even when they can.
@@markwiemels yes, and if needed i can use the eos app on my phone as shutter
Can you do vertical on this?
Yes, but you have to hold the gimbal in a different position. There should be videos demoing this.
Great review. Purchasing through your affiliate link as we speak. Needed this for my m50 and iPhone for real estate videos/vlogs.
Great to hear. You will be very happy.
Super helpful!
Thanks. Great to hear.
How to panaxismotor setting in canon m50
What a genuine legend!
Thank you for the help and guidance; been watching a bunch of your videos consecutively....
Wormwholing....
Your content is Comprehensive, Concise and Genuine!
Love It
Thanks so much, appreciate the kind words.
I just bought this.
The gimbal is awesome, my only problem is that it doesn't support the video control of canon m50 which is a deal breaker for me.
Yes, that is annoying.
Hi, what do you mean by video control?
@@jennifermarin2644 can’t start or stop recording or change settings. For me, that’s not a big issue, award winning movies have been produced with out this function. Basically you hit a button on the gimbal, instead of one on the camera. Right now you can start and stop recoding in sony cameras only.
That sucks. That’s one of the main reasons I am not happy with the ronin sc. the SC needs a 90 degree adapter to be able to even connect the cable which is ridiculous. The fact that we don’t have wireless control of the camera yet is crazy…
Love the content
Thanks.
How about scorp-C by feiyutech?
Have not tested, but the form fact remains somewhat large, even when folded down.
I have m50. I am looking for a very good tripod. I love this gimbal but too expensive
Check out my M50 best tripod video! Great and very affordable.
Awesome review.
Can the m3 handle canon m50 with sigma 16mm? Thank you
It can, but with a limited range of motion.
Standard kit costs 3990 dollar, is this correct?
Best to check the links, because it will vary, but was $369 US$
Portland, Me 👏👏👏
Watch your hands !
soupah 👏👏👏
But it DOESN’T provide any camera control so it’s useless. I sent mine back after 5 frustrating days trying to make it work!
I bought this and I was so disappointed that it couldn't support my sigma 16mm.
that is a huge turn off that i did not know. thank you for sharing this. i almost pulled the trigger
Bananas do not offer a good size comparison -- they vary significantly in size on my grocery store. 🍌
Always appreciate what I have been able to learn from you -- thank you!
Wait, are you saying that your banana is bigger than mine? ;-) (it’s nice to hear the videos are helpful, thanks)
not a size comparison... But my grocery store ... :)
