The manual ISSB machine doesn't have the provision to adjust curvature. You need to buy or hire the manual curved ISSB machine.

1. Approximately how many brick would be needed for a 2/3 bedroom house?
2. What are the possible challenges of using issb in a black cotton soil area.
3. Can the issbs be used for the foundation in such an area
1. It depends with the design of your house and height of your walls as well. It costs on average 25 kshs to produce an ISSB block.
2. Black cotton soil swells when too much water is present. It also cracks when the water dries out. That's why this kind of soil is excavated to find hard rock in the ground to start building the foundation of your house
3. ISSB blocks are not recommended for foundation walls. They can absorb too much water as they're not fully waterproof. Also they don't have the required strength needed for a foundation wall.

Do they absorb sounds?
1. It will depend with your design. I don't really know for sure
2. ISSBs are used for permanent structures, so they're strong and durable
3. They're resistant although you may need columns or steel reinforcement to add more strength to your walls. I've not seen any tests with bullets but I think they can fair well against bullets. Maybe more research is needed here.

I have an ICSEB (Interlocking Compressed Stabilized Earth Bricks) machine, and would like to use the bricks below ground level. If you could dig a hole in the ground to use as a below ground basement or underground room cool storage food root cellar / tornado shelter / hurricane shelter you could use the dirt you dug up to make the walls of the house.
I don't see any information saying you can use the interlocking compressed earth bricks for underground below grade basements or buildings. Is there some way to make the bricks strong enough to use below grade, and prevent the bricks from dissolving from below ground moisture? Could you use the bricks underground if instead of 10% cement you used 20%, 30%, 40%, or 50% cement?
I've seen information that ICSEB bricks made from a combination of 5% cement and 5% lime are stronger than just cement. The cement binds the sand, and the lime binds the clay. You could not add too much cement, but if you over-stabilized bricks with more than 10% lime, the particles push apart and the bricks become more brittle. Perhaps ICSEB bricks made from 50% cement combined with 5% or 10% lime would make the bricks strong enough to endure in a moist underground environment? I'd really like an answer to this question because I'd like to be able to dig an underground room for each home both for a cold food storage area / tornado / hurricane safety room, and as a way to get the dirt to make the ICSEB bricks for the building. I plan to use the ICSEB machine in Kenya.

Yes it's true there isn't much information about ISSBs in underground or moist areas.
But at the same time, the curved ISSBs are used to make water tanks. Inside the water tanks, the wall is plastered with waterproof cement and mortar and reinforced with BRC mesh.
So I'm thinking in your situation, you can use waterproof cement as a stabilizer and maybe plaster your wall.
The amount of stabilizer to add depends on your soil. There's a test called the shrinkage test that determines the cement to soil ratio.

@Ruby, I have seen some bricks made from concrete mix used for concrete blocks but compressed in issb machine. That could be an experiment but definitely clean machine immediately after.
The plastering inside and outside of the cseb brick wall with waterproof additives could protect from moisture ingress. All the best.

What is the mix ratio in case of lime as stabilizer?
Lime and sand are added to high-clay soils to improve the soil's quality. Cement is the stabilizer that gives ISSBs their strength so it can't be skipped.
A typical mix ratio: 60 - 70% soil,
20 - 30% coarse sand and 8 - 10% cement.
How do you make the bircks shiny?
You can apply an oil-based clear varnish on the blocks.
Is it possible to use a gold colored paint to make the soil blocks a rich golden color?
Maybe if you plaster them and apply paint on the plastered surface
Can I use the bricks for a storey building?
You can but you need to use beams, columns & slabs to support a storey building.

how is it possible that it doesn't need any mortar, not even little to make the blocks attached to each other. I mean even if it's interlocked, if there are horizontal forces on the wall it might collapse.

Hey, how do you insulate the ISSB wall from rain and water splash? i have seen people making walls, yet the block is not water resistance
Hi Timothy, the addition of a stabilizer makes the block more waterproof. Also, the curing process hardens the ISSBs making them structurally suitable. This also helps in waterproofing the blocks.
Have a cement footer, or a stone/cement footer, or engineering brick footer elevating the bricks off the ground from the rain. Some of the people making the bricks are only compressing soil and did not add 10% cement stabilizer or only added 5% stabilizer when the bricks needed 10% stabilizer.
@@rubyellis.5472 The stone footer adds an element of waterproofing from surface runoff. The bricks won't be strong without the stabilizer. They'll simply fail. It's important to stick to the recommended stabilizer ratio.
