    Aurifil is also my favorite but I have not used all the different weights. One great thing about your video on thread is that I can refer back to it when I'm dealing with something unfamiliar and remember when to best use it. Thanks, Stephanie!!

    Ok
    Now that was interesting. I learned to sew when I was 9, I am now 68 and didn’t know there were so many different thread sizes. I used one type of thread for sewing garments. Thank you for explaining it so well.

    Always good to hear another take on the basics of thread. I've sewn everything from shopping bags made out of feedsacks, to minky fabric, to piecing quilts on my older Kenmore workhorse. If I jump up to thicker thread then I am most likely going to need to reduce my machine tension a bit, because the thicker thread produces more 'drag' going through the fabric and that is its own tension.
    Modern machines may be able to adjust automatically. I'll have to find out someday, but in the meantime I've learned a lot about making those adjustments manually.

    Thank you for sharing the information. I’ve found the hard way to use the proper weight thread that matches the needle size in my sewing and serger machines. I took notes.

    I enjoyed the video. I have always been one to use whatever works at the time. Not really paying much attention to the weight of the thread. So thank you for enlightening me about the differences in the weight. I would love to be put in the drawing for the sample thread pack.

    Thank you so much for this video, Stephanie. You explain things so well, and I really enjoyed all the information. I primarily use 50 wt Aurifil and sometimes 40 wt, but it’s great to know the uses for all of the other wt threads

    thanks for refreshing our minds . I liked that you suggested which thread to use in the bobbin as well as the suggested needle to use. One odd question. When using the different threads, have you noticed if you have to adjust your tension on the machine? Just curious. Thanks again.

    • @StephaniesStitches
      @StephaniesStitches  Рік тому +1

      I leave my tension as is, but you may have to if you are getting funny stitches. Most domestic machines are made to leave the tension alone for the most part.

    Thank you Steph for the information, even though I have been sewing for many, many years I have only ever made one quilt. It was hand appliqued and hand quilted a queen size for our bed, I could not hand quilt now Mr. Arthritis would not allow it lol. I have always intended to make a quilt, but with all of the other crafts I was doing and at the time raising my family, I just never got around to it. So now my family is grown and have their own families. I intend to quilt and to try my hand at drafting my own clothing patterns. So again thank you for the information, next I will learn about needles. But I think Teacum has a video on that not sure, I know someone does. 😊

    For thread, I learned the size is based on how many yards or meters can be made from a given amount of raw material. You could make a lot more fine thread than thick thread from one cotton ball.

    Thank you for tips on thread. It can be confusing...if possible can you give info on different types batting to use in Quilts. This is confusing for me. How to read info on bags sizing, loft, spacing and texture. So many to choose from and or Is it better to by yardage? We dont have a fabric store in our hometown....only Walmart😢
    Thank you

    I wonder if the 80 weight would be good for machine sewing on binding, if you do not want the stitching to show as much. Thanks for the info.

    • @StephaniesStitches
      @StephaniesStitches  Рік тому

      Probably, but I would worry about the thread holding up long-term if it is a well used quilt. If it is a show quilt, I could see this!

    Is the weight number equivalent to the tex number? (e.g. Tex 40)

    • @StephaniesStitches

      No, those numbers are different. A 40 Tex is equivalent to a 30wt thread. A 50wt thread is 25 Tex.
