Aurifil is also my favorite but I have not used all the different weights. One great thing about your video on thread is that I can refer back to it when I'm dealing with something unfamiliar and remember when to best use it. Thanks, Stephanie!!
Ok
Now that was interesting. I learned to sew when I was 9, I am now 68 and didn’t know there were so many different thread sizes. I used one type of thread for sewing garments. Thank you for explaining it so well.
Always good to hear another take on the basics of thread. I've sewn everything from shopping bags made out of feedsacks, to minky fabric, to piecing quilts on my older Kenmore workhorse. If I jump up to thicker thread then I am most likely going to need to reduce my machine tension a bit, because the thicker thread produces more 'drag' going through the fabric and that is its own tension.
Modern machines may be able to adjust automatically. I'll have to find out someday, but in the meantime I've learned a lot about making those adjustments manually.
Love this information. I had no idea what the different threads were used for. Sooooo helpful!
Thanks, Stephanie! This was so informative.
My pleasure!
Thank you for the words about thread… I will never forget it.
Thank you for sharing the information. I’ve found the hard way to use the proper weight thread that matches the needle size in my sewing and serger machines. I took notes.
I enjoyed the video. I have always been one to use whatever works at the time. Not really paying much attention to the weight of the thread. So thank you for enlightening me about the differences in the weight. I would love to be put in the drawing for the sample thread pack.
Thank you so much for this video, Stephanie. You explain things so well, and I really enjoyed all the information. I primarily use 50 wt Aurifil and sometimes 40 wt, but it’s great to know the uses for all of the other wt threads
Thanks so much Steph. I always learn a lot from you…you’re a natural🇦🇺❤️
Aww, thanks!
Very interesting Stephanie. I'm a newbie quilter and when piecing I just got a 30 wt. Thread. Didnt realize all the different wts. Did different things. Also have only used the 90/14 needle that came on my new sewing machine. Thank u for explaining.😊
My pleasure!
Thank you for all the information . I use the green bobbin thread for hand binding .
This video about thread was so informative, good info thanks Steph
Thank you for the information about threads. I’m about to start a paper piecing block of the month. I can’t wait to get started!
Awesome! Good luck with your BOM!

Sure thing!
Great video, Stephanie! Thanks so much for breaking all this down for us.
Thank u Stephanie for the 411 on thread. Aurifil is my favorite ❤️ thread!😊
Wow!! An amazing video. I didn’t know alot of this! Soooo much info! Thank you so much for sharing all of this information!!❤️❤️
LOved this video Stephanie. I love Aurifil and I use it as much as I can. I was wondering what the grey spool was when I was scrolling somewhere yesterday, so very timely to see it here. Thanks again. Enjoy your day.
Great video! I didn’t know about thread. The video helped me. Thanks ❤❤❤
I love this information. Very helpful! Thank you
I loved this very informative video. I would love to get a sampler pack of this thread. Thank you
Great video, Stephanie.
I love Aurifil thread. I hope Aurifil comes out with a 40 or 50 wt thread with some sheen for embroidering. Sometimes I need a little sparkle for the design I’m working on. 😊
thanks for refreshing our minds . I liked that you suggested which thread to use in the bobbin as well as the suggested needle to use. One odd question. When using the different threads, have you noticed if you have to adjust your tension on the machine? Just curious. Thanks again.
I leave my tension as is, but you may have to if you are getting funny stitches. Most domestic machines are made to leave the tension alone for the most part.
I sort of knew that. . Thanks. Maybe it's time to bring my Bernina in for another check up.!! Had issues the other day with tension and it is ok now, after fussing with it…
Super helpful information! Thanks 😊
Thank you. Now I know what kind of thread to use to get my blocks to measure up. I have had trouble getting the to turn out.
Very helpful video, much appreciated! ❤
Lots of good info! Thank you!
Very informative thank you for sharing the knowledge
Love video..use 80wt for stitch in the ditch.
Love your explanation. I’m a fairly recent subscriber. Steven mentioned you in a video.
Thank you so much...and thanks for subscribing!
I did not know the yellow cone was a 3 ply 40wt… I wrote that down and a few other of your tips from this video for a reference check. Hopefully in a couple of years I’ll have a long arm
A thumbs up for the video. I use Aurifil thread too!
Thank you!
Thank you for the information about threads. sometime I dont know wish one to used.I always get Aurifil , 50,wt # 2024.. Thank u Stephanie for the inf.
You're welcome!
Thank you for explaining! You are awesome! I enjoy your videos!!!
My pleasure! And thank you 😊
Thank you Steph for the information, even though I have been sewing for many, many years I have only ever made one quilt. It was hand appliqued and hand quilted a queen size for our bed, I could not hand quilt now Mr. Arthritis would not allow it lol. I have always intended to make a quilt, but with all of the other crafts I was doing and at the time raising my family, I just never got around to it. So now my family is grown and have their own families. I intend to quilt and to try my hand at drafting my own clothing patterns. So again thank you for the information, next I will learn about needles. But I think Teacum has a video on that not sure, I know someone does. 😊
I think Teancum does have a video on that. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much Tracy!
I loved this info, thanks so much
Sure thing!
For thread, I learned the size is based on how many yards or meters can be made from a given amount of raw material. You could make a lot more fine thread than thick thread from one cotton ball.
Thank you for tips on thread. It can be confusing...if possible can you give info on different types batting to use in Quilts. This is confusing for me. How to read info on bags sizing, loft, spacing and texture. So many to choose from and or Is it better to by yardage? We dont have a fabric store in our hometown....only Walmart😢
Thank you
I wonder if the 80 weight would be good for machine sewing on binding, if you do not want the stitching to show as much. Thanks for the info.
Probably, but I would worry about the thread holding up long-term if it is a well used quilt. If it is a show quilt, I could see this!
Awesome information ty beautiful lady
Great information. What thread do you recommend for hand sewing binding?
You can use either the 40 or 50 weight. Either would work just fine.
@@StephaniesStitches Thank You!
so opposite from medical needles get smaller as you go up in number so i’m easily confused thanks for setting me straight 🎉
I love your video. Very informative. Would love to win some thread
Thank you Stephanie what weight would you use for a little girls dress
If it's 100% cotton, I would use the 50wt.
I would love to receive the thread. My go to is 50 weight especially on the longarm.
Is the weight number equivalent to the tex number? (e.g. Tex 40)
No, those numbers are different. A 40 Tex is equivalent to a 30wt thread. A 50wt thread is 25 Tex.
@@StephaniesStitches Oh I was going to assume this. I'm glad I asked! Thank you.
Did I miss the part where you talked about needle size?
I talked about which needle size to use with each thread. I didn't specifically talk just about needles, but I could do that in the future. 😊
I feel like I might be the only one confused about which type of needle to use when...and I think I will just stick to Top Stitch. If you want to talk to about needles in a future episode, I would love that :) @@StephaniesStitches
❤
Thank you for the great information. I'm excited to try 80 weight for Legit BOM FFP. Your knowledge & tips are much appreciated.❤
