I own the SR955HPC (version II), and asked CB World to send it to Tiny's CB Shop. There, he did the 11 Meter conversion along with a full peaked & tune job. Tiny's did a great job with it and kept me in the loop throughout the time he had it. By that I mean that I had no problem contacting him. "Tiny" is the guy who owns the shop and does the work himself, (he's been doing CB & Ham radio work for well over 35 years). CB World referred me to him when I bought the radio from them.
Tiny made me feel welcome over the phone and he would give me all the time I wanted to ask & answer questions I had. I didn't feel like I was getting rushed off the phone and I could tell he knew what he was talking about. I don't know if it's a misprint but the radio's box labels it as an "SR955HPC", not "SR955HP". (Maybe the "HPC" is for the version 2?)
I've owned several CB (11-Meter) radios in the last 50 years. However, I started gaining a much more serious understanding of them when I started working as a professional driver back in 1985.
I drove OTR/48 for a little over 6.5 years and the radio I owned (and took from truck to truck whenever I changed carriers that I worked for), was a reliable Cobra 29. I eventually installed it in my personal vehicle, but I noticed a loss in transmit/receive distances after a short while. The SWR was fine, but maybe because my personal vehicles weren't as tall as a Kenworth, I just couldn't talk very far anymore.
It was probably my antennae choice and/or position. I don't know, but finally, (and years later) I sold my vehicle and bought a new 2022 Jeep G WK. A month later, I bought the SR955 and a Stryker SR-A10MM Magnetic Mount antenna to match. Since then, I've been told many times that my transmission was "wall to wall and treetop tall", (LOL, do drivers even say that anymore?).
Most of the time, I wouldn't have to ask how I was getting out! The other radio folks would jump in and asked what I was talking on and tell me how well it was transmitting. After I told them what model I was using, I must of heard a dozen operators reply with something like; "Yea, I was looking at those and everyone who had one sounded great. I'm going to have to buy one in the next week or two!"
In fact, I've lost count of how many times I was driving to the local store (in Houston) and I would wind up talking to someone in Main, Connecticut, Kentucky, etc., etc. Most were blown away that I was in a mobile! They thought I was on a home base station. Of course, it was all on Skip, but I was able to stay with most of them for the entire ride to, and from the store, (40 minutes easy).
In fact, one person claimed he was talking to me from Hawaii! I don't know if that's where he really was, but I would've guessed he was only 10 miles away. I have a Road King 56B mic on it and that SR-A10MM mag-base antenna works great. It's easy to unscrew from the base when I need to go to the car wash. When I screw it back on, the SWR is exactly what it was before I removed it, (about .2/.3 at best and .6 at worse).
Great radio and great service! Well worth the money!
