  • We arrive at Hells Gate Roadhouse after we had left Adele's Grove crossing an alternate truck route to get to the Savannah Way. By taking the alternate truck route we saved hundreds of kms. The Savannah Way is 3700 kilometre route linking the historic pearling town of Broome in Western Australia’s Kimberley with Cairns in Tropical North Queensland via the natural wonders of Australia’s tropical savannahs and the Northern Territory’s Top End. The Savannah Way road trip is Australia’s longest and arguably most fascinating route. It is a journey of roads that is unsealed and there’s some water courses to ford along the way. It had rained when we travelled through the truck route and when we arrived at Hells Gate we were very popular with other travellers wanting to know where we had been. They were all worried that they were going to be covered in mud if they had to travel where we had come from. We stayed the night at Hells Gate Roadhouse and set off the next morning West to cross the border and make our way Borroloola. We had a great day on the road travelling approximately 278 kms, crossing several river crossings before arriving at Foelshe River where we set up camp. We had planned to travel to Borroloola the following day but discovered a Station stay about 25 kms to where we were. So we altered our plans and headed to Managoora Station. Manangoora Station is a pastoral lease of over 1400 sq km located 90km east of Borroloola in the NT. The station has been owned and run by the same family since the 1920s and offers great fishing and a real wilderness camping experience. The campground also has the closest boat ramp access to the Gulf of Carpentaria, Vanderlin Island, the Edward Pellow Islands & Barranyi National Park. We get bogged getting out to the station but we manage to winch and use the maxtraks to get out and arrive at the station with no other problems. We thoroughly enjoyed checking this place out and dos some fishing but with no luck. The next day we head to Borroloola but that will be in the next Episode.
