Thank you for filming this, it's great to give me an idea, I have a Toyota Hiace LWB which will have a Toyota E-Locker (rear diff lock) + EnduroCo lift kit of 100mm, all terrain tyres, upgraded suspension, Underbody protection plate, etc., etc., so it's total ground clearance will be 280mm, I have a feeling I'll be able to get through those river crossings in the dry, if they're similar to what you went through, your thoughts?

From your comments, it seems that the N.T. side has the rougher road surface. I have heard similar comments from others in past years. Handy to know for when I get there sometime in the next couple of years. Another enjoyable vid. Also, nice to see Borroloola again.

I think the Queensland side was noticeably rougher but that was 2010 or something so things could have changed

Haha,, I came from Central Victoria the first time I went accross,, There were ten year old trees growing in the middle of the road.
Hells gate were being Destocked... Bashed 112 cane toads at Woollogorang,,, all recovered and hopped away
Rough as guts to NT boarder to find a 4 lane gravel Highway,,

I traveled from nt to Normanton and remember the small stretch of paved road 😂 i think its there to give you false hope and make you think its finally over. I didnt stop to check but that phone booth nailed to a tree in the middle of nowhere was probably there for a similar reason😋 heaps of commodores going up and down through there its really commodore country. Holden should have taken note and used that in their marketing😅

Just did Booroloola to Hells Gate about a month ago.
    The road east was garbage.
The Savannah way from Burketown to Normanton had been graded and was amazing.
We're heading out from Innisfail to the Cape tomorrow

Great video and great information. Thanks. I'm thinking of doing this road on a motorbike. I can see that there are many creek/river crossings that aren't that deep and crossable on Motorbike. I can see deep sand at river crossings but apart form those areas were there stretches of deep sand on the road?

Would a stock pajero with all terrains make it? Looks doable to me.

I've driven that same road 9 times in an 86 Suzuki Swift GTi - a stock Pajero with road tyres would easily make it.

Easy there's more comodores up and down that road then anything else. Just lower your tire pressure I didn't know to do that and after 2000kms of that corrugated road my 4wd van had a lot of cracked pipes leaking coolant and god knows what else. I think It will take a toll on any vehicle even if done right. Also the dust will get everywhere and I mean everywhere
