A real KSE fan would've realized by now that Jesse was the original vocalist before Howard (which a lot of people don't seem to realize). However, I think a true fan would appreciate both Howard's and Jesse's vocal styles. I like both, and there's nothing wrong with preferring one over the other. But damn it, the fucking debate over who's better is so fucking absurd. While almost everyone is seamlessly arguing about who's better, a lot are forgetting the bigger picture - the rest of the band. It's not only the vocalist (whether Jesse or Howard) that make KSE, it's Adam, Joel, Mike, Justin, Jesse/Howard that collectively make the band. Also, I think it's really Adam that's the brains behind most of what the band does (though he doesn't act like that on stage), so c'mon guys give the other members some well deserved credit!
The real Killswitch engage fans out there would agree with both Jesse and Howard are great singers. But when it comes down to the live performance, the singing and screaming stuff everyone will pick Howard over Jesse the fact is that people just can't accept the truth and Howard is the best
I for sure know Jesse was the original singer. I grew up in the same town as Jesse and saw Corrin so many times. My friends Jeff and Colin are also in Death Ray Vision with Mike D.
I'm personally more of a Howard Jones fan, and I'm glad to have seen both singers live. Kinda lost my interest in KSE after Howard left but I'm happy for the band and Jesse that they're still having fun doing what they love.
Just saw both of them share the stage playing with Killswitch and singing together and that was the most fun I've seen musicians have! All smiles the whole time🤘
Best part about that: no bad blood between them! No huge egos, no issues (hopefully). I was also able to recently watch them sing together, and it was surreal. Never thought I was going to be able to see Howard with KSE after he left because I never got to see them live, so it was unreal that I was able to see them together.

what a humble guy! another reason to love this band. at first when jessie joined the band and howard left I was disappointed. but as time went on and listen to jessie more and more and evolve with the band, I love them both equally for their respective styles and passions for singing as well as their attitudes.
I saw them back around thanksgiving time in philly and a few days ago at rock on the range in Columbus, OH and there were fucking incredible both times. Man was I in heaven.
This dude is a class act. Everything he's done stands highly in my record collection. Alive or Just Breathing was such a pivotal album growing up and 10+ years later I can still listen to it from beginning to end. The same goes for the original self-titled disc. It's really great to see and hear this guy back with this lineup.
It was such a great moment meeting Jesse. He's one of the biggest influences in my life and my heart, along with Howard. Their lyrics are dripping with unfettered passion and words of strength.

Jesse isn't keeping anything civil in remarks, i saw them about 6 months ago, got an autograph from everyone except 2 for jesse because he was too much of an ass to give me one, he acted like he had better things to do than to give a FAN an autograph and went in his tour bus to get high, furthermore i asked about if anyone in the band still kept in contact with Howard Jones and Phil Labonte seeing as they both came from KSE, his first reply to that was and I quote "fuck Howard!" and then thats when i dropped it and he didn't give me an autograph. Everyone else in the band was very nice and fun to be around and all he did was bring negative energy. Just because someone says something when he knows he's on camera doesn't mean it's real; As far as im concerned because of what he has shown me im convinced that it's all an act. Now im not saying that he isn't a good singer, but when i met Howard he was more than happy to give me an autograph and actually act like your friend and answer questions in a civilized manner no matter who it was about.

Still so sad that Howard left. He made them who they are today, and even now they aren't half as big as they were in 2006-2010 anymore. But I still wish them nothing but the best.

I'm not taking anything away from Jesse, but I personally believe Howard's a better singer. Howard's voice has so much power and hits so many vocal ranges it's insane! Just the way he screams yet remains so melodic, it's like you can hear all the emotion he pours into each song, like this ma is literally sing from the heart. When I heard Darkness Falls from the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack I was instantly hooked. Out of all of KSE songs with Howard "The Reckoning" is my all time favorite, but I have to Jesse is a better writer than Howard. Jesse's lyrics are more deeper and impactful, I kind of felt Howard's were just a bit dry. Either way I wish Howard the best, the man has to focus on his health and I don't blame him. The band needed to continue and they felt Jesse was the best choice. Jesse's a great vocalist, but he had Howard have to complete different styles, so it's hard to compare the two but opinion wise Howard's voice is by far the best.
I got into KSE back in the day when Jesse was the original singer. I was sad to hear that he was no longer part of the band, but Howard did a GREAT job in keeping the style of KSE alive. I love their songs done both by Jesse and Howard, but I have to say I am glad to see Jesse back. Kudos to both singers, and I wish nothing more than the best in all that they do! KCCO!
Jake Stephen this is so very true. I like both vocalists, but in reality, Howard's voice layered on Adams riffs really did define this band. Since his leave, their sound just hasn't been as great as it was. It isn't bad, but it isn't the same emotionally driven sound that moved me like Howard and Adam did with each track. I still support Jesse though, he simply isn't my choice.

I fell in love with Killswitch the first time I heard My Last Serenade. I mostly stuck with listening to Howard until he left and I began hearing their new material with Jesse, and I really liked it. I went back and listened to their old stuff with Jesse and equally enjoyed that. Killswitch Engage is such a legendary band with either vocalist! I still probably listen to Howard's stuff more, but that's just what I grew up on. Cut me Loose is definitely my most listened to Killswitch Engage song right now though.
I didn't know anything about KSE ( i knew they existed, nothing more) until i heard "In due time". Disarm the descent won me over completely. So i went back to listen to the entire discography of the band, and out of 3 albums, I only really liked the first one. And that tells me, that Jesse is just a better fit( for me) for this band.

I have actually always listened to them both.l loved end of a heartache by Howard but I always get pumped to heart old ones by Jesse like Numbered Days so I'm glad he's back.

Loved this band many years now! Hearing a bid fair well under Howard helped me come to terms with anger I had over a headache. Under Jessie I finally got to see these guys live and when always was played I was brought to tears again! Whoever wants to pick between are the unfortunate ones! I love both Jesse and Howard for what they do for KSE! Howard got me into the band but I learned about how good Jesse is and was so it makes me feel better knowing that they remained consistent overall.
This video has made me give Jesse some mad respect. The way he is looking at the whole situation is exactly how you should look at it. It's not a contest between who is better. Honestly I think more people liked Howards style of singing with the band than Jesse. One of my favorite things that Jesse said though is that he didn't think he could sing Howards songs and live inside of someone elses songs. Mad mad respect there. He recognizes Howard as a great singer, and he knows he can't take his place, so he's doing his own thing instead as he should
They are both amazing - I was happy to see that it was Jesse taking over for Howard because I never disliked Jesse. Getting a second chance was definitely a blessing because the dude is killing it and Howard's new band is great.

To me it was the other way around. The songs in end of heartache album complimented with one another and each song was very heart felt. I never heard of killswitch engage until howard was the singer so you may just be right.
Nick Raponi End of heartache was a good album and probably the best album they released with howard but Alive or just breathing was on another level imo. It was the "Master of puppets/Ride the lighting" of killswitch engage.
Yeah, I disagree too. Jesse is awesome, but he doesn't bring raw emotion to the songs like Howard did. My Curse, The End of Heartache, Rose of Sharyn, The Arms of Sorrow, Reject Yourself, Save Me, Starting Over are just examples of why that statement is wrong. Not to mention, hearing Howard perform songs like "My Last Serenade" really changed shit up and gave those songs a new meaning.

skater13 I know he came back and he was in beginning of KSE, but in my mind I've got hard associations between Howard and KSE and when I listen it now I hear only Times Of Grace.
I can only echo things people have already said. Howard Jones was easily the backbone of KSE and he put them on the map. No disrespect to the other bandmembers who are kickass as well, but Jones' voice is what made people get into them. Imagine Soundgarden without Chris Cornell. Also, I think another crucial thing, other than his amazing voice, is the show Howard put on. Watching them on UA-cam makes me wish I had gotten into them before he left. In terms of live performance, KSE without Howard Jones is Rammstein without Till Lindemann.
I don't like the KSE without Howard. Sorry but I think Jesse's voice is nothing compared to Howard's. He had such a huge impact on their songs. Just mind blowing vocal skills. I'm really waiting for Devil You Know's 1st album.
I listen to to ALL KSE with the same respect to each lead vocalist, and not to mention the REST of the band who are SO essential, and BEAST to this amazing sound we all can't get enough of.

They're both so awesome. But the key difference is I feel like I know Jesse through his music. While Howard is objectively a better singer, Jesse connects with me more as an artist. They're both so great and so different.

+Buzz Music Howard is able to do just about any voice... Jesse has like 2 pitches. a weak scream, a continuous grunting kinda singing, and his harmony singing is meh. Howard nails everything, and not only that has just about the illest scream out there.
You have to love both singers for their individual styles. I've been following this band since before Alive or Just Breathing, and loved every second of it. I'm glad Howard parted ways gracefully, and I'm glad Jesse is back! I hope Howard comes back on the metal scene soon too!

I’m a Jesse guy….. but that’s because he was the original vocalist. Howard’s time wasn’t a waste tho, they still put out really good music….. I just think Jesse and Adam have something special together. It was nice living in western MA and being able to these guys all play in Killswitch and other bands. People from Springfield who spent too many nights at Fat Cats know exactly what I’m talking about 👍

Alive or just breathing is still my favorite album. End of heartache was good ,but jesse’s singing on “alive or just breathing” was flawless.
Couldn't agree more. KsE isn't even my favorite band but AOJB is the best album ever. Every song is a 10/10

Jesse's lyrics are more deeper and impactful, I kind of felt Howard's were just a bit dry.
Either way I wish Howard the best, the man has to focus on his health and I don't blame him. The band needed to continue and they felt Jesse was the best choice. Jesse's a great vocalist, but he had Howard have to complete different styles, so it's hard to compare the two but opinion wise Howard's voice is by far the best.
I got into KSE back in the day when Jesse was the original singer. I was sad to hear that he was no longer part of the band, but Howard did a GREAT job in keeping the style of KSE alive. I love their songs done both by Jesse and Howard, but I have to say I am glad to see Jesse back. Kudos to both singers, and I wish nothing more than the best in all that they do! KCCO!

Jake Stephen this is so very true. I like both vocalists, but in reality, Howard's voice layered on Adams riffs really did define this band. Since his leave, their sound just hasn't been as great as it was. It isn't bad, but it isn't the same emotionally driven sound that moved me like Howard and Adam did with each track. I still support Jesse though, he simply isn't my choice.

I fell in love with Killswitch the first time I heard My Last Serenade. I mostly stuck with listening to Howard until he left and I began hearing their new material with Jesse, and I really liked it. I went back and listened to their old stuff with Jesse and equally enjoyed that. Killswitch Engage is such a legendary band with either vocalist! I still probably listen to Howard's stuff more, but that's just what I grew up on. Cut me Loose is definitely my most listened to Killswitch Engage song right now though.
I didn't know anything about KSE ( i knew they existed, nothing more) until i heard "In due time". Disarm the descent won me over completely. So i went back to listen to the entire discography of the band, and out of 3 albums, I only really liked the first one. And that tells me, that Jesse is just a better fit( for me) for this band.
As Daylight Dies is their best work after Disarm the Descent.

I’m not the biggest KSE fan but I do have a few songs that have Jesse and Howard and they’re both one of the most amazing singers I’ve heard. There shouldn’t be a debate at all on who’s the best because it just doesn’t make sense for anyone who’s a fan of heavy metal and the band.

I have actually always listened to them both.l loved end of a heartache by Howard but I always get pumped to heart old ones by Jesse like Numbered Days so I'm glad he's back.
KSE is awesome, I saw them live last year with Jesse and he kicked asses up there..I enjoy listening to these guys as a whole... it IS fucking nonsense to keep comparing the singers, they're just different and both have added important things to KSE. I'm sure they have a lot of fun playing together, so why to bring up a comparison? enjoy the fucking music!

Loved this band many years now! Hearing a bid fair well under Howard helped me come to terms with anger I had over a headache. Under Jessie I finally got to see these guys live and when always was played I was brought to tears again! Whoever wants to pick between are the unfortunate ones! With Howard it was way better in my opinion. He puts more feeling in the songs. Jesse sounds colder.

I love both Jesse and Howard for what they do for KSE! Howard got me into the band but I learned about how good Jesse is and was so it makes me feel better knowing that they remained consistent overall.

This video has made me give Jesse some mad respect. The way he is looking at the whole situation is exactly how you should look at it. It's not a contest between who is better. Honestly I think more people liked Howards style of singing with the band than Jesse. One of my favorite things that Jesse said though is that he didn't think he could sing Howards songs and live inside of someone elses songs. Mad mad respect there. He recognizes Howard as a great singer, and he knows he can't take his place, so he's doing his own thing instead as he should

I prefer Jesse and the albums he made with KSE were better in my opinion. Howard was a brilliant vocalist but I think he lacked the emotion that Jesse brought.
To me it was the other way around. The songs in end of heartache album complimented with one another and each song was very heart felt. I never heard of killswitch engage until howard was the singer so you may just be right.
Nick Raponi End of heartache was a good album and probably the best album they released with howard but Alive or just breathing was on another level imo. It was the "Master of puppets/Ride the lighting" of killswitch engage.

Yeah, I disagree too. Jesse is awesome, but he doesn't bring raw emotion to the songs like Howard did. My Curse, The End of Heartache, Rose of Sharyn, The Arms of Sorrow, Reject Yourself, Save Me, Starting Over are just examples of why that statement is wrong. Not to mention, hearing Howard perform songs like "My Last Serenade" really changed shit up and gave those songs a new meaning.

I can only echo things people have already said. Howard Jones was easily the backbone of KSE and he put them on the map. No disrespect to the other bandmembers who are kickass as well, but Jones' voice is what made people get into them. Imagine Soundgarden without Chris Cornell.
Also, I think another crucial thing, other than his amazing voice, is the show Howard put on. Watching them on UA-cam makes me wish I had gotten into them before he left. In terms of live performance, KSE without Howard Jones is Rammstein without Till Lindemann.

If your favorite Killswitch album isn't Alive or Just Breathing, then you probably haven't even listened to it. It amazes me that people are mad about Howard being gone after that terrible self titled album. The new album kicks ass.

They're both so awesome. But the key difference is I feel like I know Jesse through his music. While Howard is objectively a better singer, Jesse connects with me more as an artist. They're both so great and so different.

+Buzz Music Howard is able to do just about any voice... Jesse has like 2 pitches. a weak scream, a continuous grunting kinda singing, and his harmony singing is meh.
Howard nails everything, and not only that has just about the illest scream out there.
You have to love both singers for their individual styles. I've been following this band since before Alive or Just Breathing, and loved every second of it. I'm glad Howard parted ways gracefully, and I'm glad Jesse is back! I hope Howard comes back on the metal scene soon too!

I’m a Jesse guy….. but that’s because he was the original vocalist. Howard’s time wasn’t a waste tho, they still put out really good music….. I just think Jesse and Adam have something special together. It was nice living in western MA and being able to these guys all play in Killswitch and other bands. People from Springfield who spent too many nights at Fat Cats know exactly what I’m talking about 👍
