  • This Walther PPK is marked with a "U". Has anyone out there seen another? The meaning is lost to history, but could have been a factory training pistol for workers to practice on.

Those were made for the Croatia in ww2. The party that was running the county was called Ustase.

There are P38 slides produced by FN, these are also marked "U". But not in 1940. Just wanted to mention that.
And if the Germans would mark a gun for Practice, or Übung it would be "Ü". They did the P08's also marked "Kü". Therefore it would be an "Ü".

That makes sense, that those "u" marked were used for training.

Take note of the stick eagle under the U on the frame and possibly also under the U on the slide.

The Germans where notorious for marking every part. I would bet their is a listing somewhere, probably thru Walther that can give you exact meaning of the "U"

No idea, the first thing that popped into my head was Hungary, or Ungarn in German, which was allied to Germany.
