I am exactly like you. The panic fills me, my mind wanders to horrible consequences, and when resolved, I feel like I have been cured of a terminal disease.
Glad everything turned out ok with the electrics. Some of my window cleaning customers are plumbers & handymen which is handy. That's one of the advantages. I also was cleaning windows in the cold weather this week! It was minus 3 yesterday but I put on 14 layers under my winter coat - 2 x thermals, 10 thin t-shirts, a jumper and a cardigan, I looked rather rotund - but it kept me cosy and warm. It's a case of having to to pay the bills! I remember the power cuts when we were kids, mum always had loads of candles handy x
I have to say that your description of the anxiety and panic attack made me feel that I'm not the only one!! I have had to deal with so many things after moving into my house and when something doesn't work I go into meltdown! The relief after a contractor puts my mind at rest is like a shot of Espresso!! 😂
You're certainly not the only one. I find the only way to calm myself is to do an unrelated task. I find this helps me shift the focus away from the source of panic and anxiety.
Watching the vlog about your electrical woes. You are right, to have a community where folks know each other can be a godsend. And by coincidence, my electricians name is Dave, also. Hes the bro -in-law of my carpenter, who introduced me to the plumber who has put in my new shower and kitchen sink. Good to get to know the tradesmen. Loving the vlogs. Thanks.
Hello Richard, your Vlog this week really, really resonated with me. I've been having some scary electricity issues in my flat(thank God fixed now), including fuses going off, lights flickering, sizzling sounds from the main switch board. There are small children living in my block of flats. OMG the anxiety. And the feeling of relief after a calm electrician fixed it (friend of a friend). Not all is perfect, there had been some poor engineering decisions made at base, but at least I feel safe now.
Oh Richard. I'm so sorry you had that awful anxiety. And I so empathise. Part of my stress, well most of it tbh, is linked to the strain of getting someone to fix whatever is a problem in the house, which makes me worry terribly, and feel helpless. Thank goodness for Dave. And you have resolved another issue (the cooker hood) along the way. And you've got the number of a good plumber. You're absolutely not ridiculous 🤗
You do crack me up Richard and I mean that in the kindest way. I am still trying to get better from this horrible cold, so you have cheered me up. I am glad the electrical problem was solved. I do understand the anxiety/panic thing. There is so much of that now.
I remember the blackouts of the 70s, I bought myself an electric throw & just received today, it is brilliant, one of the best thing that I have bought in a while
Hello Richard.... Whenever something goes wrong with my house the first thing that pops into my head is... welcome to the joys of being a home owner.... usually followed by a sarcastic laugh as my eyes prick with tears...You didn't get much snow... but what you did get was lovely i saw a kitty in the yard...We got ice here before a heavy snow storm... snow I can handle but you have no control with ice....73 accidents in the first hour.... I don't know what I would do if we had a power outage... I have scented candles but I also have 2 cat's and candles are to much of a temptation.... I hope that the coming week's are alittle milder and not so frigidly cold...on a lighter note Richard when you were on the top floor/ castle.. "Tudor Baby" ..I wanted to yell... Rapunzel.. Rapunzel.. let down your hair..😃 I know I have issues don't know why they pop into my head from... I guess the same place that the up & down of a ho's undies came from...lol you slay me sometimes to funny 🤣..Much Love from across the Pond 💞
I totally identify with the anxiety when something goes wrong in the house. For me, a lot of the stress comes from the uncertainty about finding someone reliable and trustworthy to carry out the repair - so many of us have experiences of unpleasant and unethical contractors. I also feel a bit 'invaded' when someone I don't know has to come into my home! What a gift that you have a local electrician with connections to other decent contractors ✨ You're right not to 'beat yourself up' about not wanting to go out in the cold. It's a form of self-care to allow yourself to rest if you are able to do so.
Spotted the black cat hiding from the snow 😻 you’re certainly getting your share of house issues atm, fingers crossed things improve. Love how you both keeping your pecker up as the saying goes!
I know what you mean about fixing things around the house... in recent weeks, I've had the heater go out, and the garbage disposal rust out and left a bunch of water under the sink. Both issues fixed now, and I am moving forward. I know you wear a scarf often for warmth, are you also wearing an undershirt under your hoodie? Those layers really help. I don't want to pay outrageous winter bills either, so my house is always on the cool side in winter.
@RichardandPaul me too...and a sweater on top of a hoodie looks overdone 🤷♀️. We both need a heated jacket, like my cousin has, it heats with batteries.
Richard, I don't want to be a "simp" as I've seen it called, but your skin really is looking younger and younger! As I age, mine is like a braille book, (war and peace because I'm also fat!),so I'm really jealous.
Glad the light came back on but it looked cozy with the candles sorry of the passing of your clients...I do love the snow ❄️

"This is my husband Paul, from the Isle of Hobbiton!" LOL...........that does make me laugh.
Not fun having a power cut in the dark and cold months. 🥶 Great to see that it was sorted.

I always wear a few layers.

Hi guys, who or what is ‘Tudor Baby ‘ ? ❤❤
Richard had a dream about a tudor baby and we talked about it a few months ago. You must've missed that episode.

You're very kind...it's amazing what good lighting and a good angle can do!
