  • ✔️ 🇬🇷 Bova, Calabria, Italy walking tour in 4k. Greek-Bovesian Village!, Griko-speaking town. Area Grecanica.
Hi my friends! Welcome to an unusual walking tour, with homemade wine tasting in a greek speaking calabrian town!
Bova is one of the Greek-Bovesian speaking villages of Bovesia, one of the two Griko-speaking areas of southern Italy. The village is inscribed into I Borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful villages in Italy) list.
🏨 BEST HOTELS where to stay in Bova 👉 www.booking.com/searchresults...
Capital of the Greek Calabria and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Bova preserves an ancient history. The origins of Bova are linked to a legendary Greek queen, Oichista, who imprinted her footprint on the highest point of the fortress overlooking the village.
    🚶 Best Tours in Italy 👉 www.getyourguide.com/italy-l1...
The ancient origins of the city of Bova (Vua) are testified by the numerous archaeological finds found near the Norman Castle dating back to the Neolithic period, even if the first historically documented evidence of the existence of Bova dates back to the early years of the second millennium, when between 1040 and 1064 the Normans imposed themselves on Arabs and Byzantines in the domination of Sicily and Calabria.
On this walking tour, I take you to the old town of Bova, one of the last Griko-speaking cities, where I found so much hospitality, like a free wine tasting from a total stranger! I was walking around and filming and he invited me to his house, where he produces traditional local wine. A wonderful experience!
It is kind of difficult to arrive in this town, the road is full of curves, climbs and some areas in poor condition. It is best to arrive by car or public bus from Bova Marina.
If you visit Reggio Calabria or the south of Calabria, do not miss this town. Another nearby town that cannot be missed is Pentedattilo. Find our video here:
Hope you like this video! Leave me a comment if you enjoy this small village town.

Your videos are getting better and better. You go to the best, this is one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and it surely is. It's part of the "Magna Graecia" towns in Southern Italy, some speaking Greek dialect. Thanks for video.

My nephew sent me this today. Funny my last name is Bova and my grandmother was from Nicastro. My grandfather was from outside of Naples, but I have heard that the Bova surname, could have Greek roots. Thank you. I hope to visit there someday!

I really enjoyed this tour of a remote Calabrian town. Other virtual tour guides don't visit Calabria and Basilicata often. I prefer the smaller out of the way places. Thank you so much! Loved the old chap with his own wine and seeing inside his cantina. Ciao Ciao!

Wow...just wow! The views of the valley coupled with the magnificent terrain are spectacular! We especially enjoyed how the gentleman you met offered a tour of his cantina. It's wonderful to see that these traditions are still so alive in these small towns and how proud people are to share it with complete strangers along with some homemade wine, too! Such a lovely gesture. The scenery is incredible here. Thank you Marco for taking us on another great adventure.

Thank you so much for posting this. My great-grandmother and her sister, my grandmother, my grandfather, and some of my mother's older brothers immigrated from this town to the United States in the 1880s. I have never seen it. The other Italian immigrant women in the USA always said my great-grandmother spoke only a dialect of Italian.

@@ItalyTogether Apologies. I made a mistake. My Griko great-grandmother was placed into an arranged marriage (approx 1850) with a man named Cesario from San Fele east of Napoli. Also a lovely village but alas, the marriage was not. My Griko great-grandmother returned to beautiful Bova with her son and ultimately the entire group immigrated to the USA. So, Cesario is NOT the name of this region. It is a name of San Fele.

Wow! Never even heard of Bova until now and it seems like the perfect place to live with such views of the sea and mountains. As you know, I’ve considered looking at houses in this region to buy and this might be the perfect place so thanks again for sharing! By the way, you say it’s one of the most beautiful towns in Italy… can you recommend other similar towns that are just as beautiful? I might have to take a gran torino of Italy as soon as I can. Grazie, ciao!

There are griko speaking villages in Calabria, Puglia and Sicily...the South of Italy had a lot of Greek influence through the centuries, first in the ancient times when it was part of the "Magna Grecia", and then during the Bizantine Empire

A lot of these coastal towns in Southern Italy in the area now called (CALABRIA) were colonized by the Greeks and the Romans gave them a name called (Magna Graecia) In Latin it simply means "greater Greece".

@@ItalyTogether Also it was controlled by the Byzantines until around the 11th century, the Capitanata region in Italy is named after Katepanikion Italias which was the Greek name of the Byzantine province in the South of Italy.
