This is very cool! I’m glad I found this channel. I can’t wait to see what the future brings. You guys have it going on with a private island, off-grid living, tiny house build, and the happiness and joy that’s so visible on your faces, even on the cold windy day. Keep up the great work. Happy Trails Everybody!

Can you use drift wood as fuel for your fireplace?

What is the conversion of knots to kph?
Do you get enough wind that a small wind farm is worth your while in the future to help generate electricity?

      Joel Webster
      1 knt is 1.8 kph
Thankfully Northeasterly’s like this are rare, but we have contemplated wether a wind turbine would help. We both feel there is not enough wind to justify the cost.

@@OnIslandOffGrid that's unfortunate, I know that people see a big wind storm like that and instantly think of windmills, not knowing that in high winds most windmills would need to be locked down to prevent damage. It takes a constant perfect breeze to make it worth while. What about solar? Do you get enough sunlight to make a difference? It seems like you have lots of trees, will you get enough unobstructed like to make it worth while? Or is it even something you feel necessary? Are you living in the home full time?

We talk about solar a lot. It’s definitely in the future. We are North East facing so not viable in the winter, however the rest of the year would possibly work.
Our tiny house is all 12v so our system would be easy to do, but yes the trees are a challenge. We have taken and had many trees come down last year in storms, we have found an area that could work. Our property is narrow so it’s not so much our lot but our undeveloped neighbours property. We love that it’s undeveloped but it’s full of large and dead trees. I dream of buying it one day lol but that’s not in the cards so I’m hoping someone buys and clears a little to help with light on our property. Interested? Lol
