The easier way is to:
1. Set the motor on the “trailer lock”
2. Remove the cotter pin of the tilt pin.
3. Remove the tilt pin.
4. The whole trim assembly can now slide forward towards you so all you will need to do is remove the 4pcs 10mm bolts of the PTT motor.
You can remove the tilt motor on a DF150 2014 model by tilting the motor all the way up, then knocking the pin out of the tilt ram and the assembly moves forward enough to gain access to all 4 bolts on the motor. I just did both of my engines, tool an hour to do both. Not sure if the 175 is any different but hopefully it helps someone.
Pretty sure that switch on the bottom inside of the bracket is a ignition safety switch that doesn’t let you start the motor unless it’s trimmed down.
hey Man what a job!!! I can't understand how Zuke got it so wrong, Yamaha's you can remove the bottom shaft and the all thing comes out. I need to replace the reservoir on a 150 Suzuki I will try without removing the bracket, too big work. I was replacing the swivel bushes and finished the second engine in the dark and got the tilt sender push arm from the swivel side that made a bad dent in the trim reservoir as I was lowering the engine back in place to install the swivel tube. Was too happy with my job so far having replaced the bushes on the swivel tube and the trim push rod bushes + replacing the trim sender (easy job with the engine pulled away and also re-tapping the steering column grease nipple and fitted new one. Now I feel bad having to take the all shit apart again I guess working alone without forklift and in the dark I was calling for trouble. Thanks for your video, was looking for this info as I did this job before on Yamaha's and the trim tilt assembly comes out without removing 1 side bracket and just removing the bottom shaft to one side.
thanks for the comment
If you know, will that trim/tilt unit for an 2004 DF225. If so, do you have the contact for purchasing a used unit. Thanks,
Roy
Will that tilt motor fit my 08 suzuki 140 df140?
your video is misleading... your title state you are replacing the motor not the whole dang pump unit...
I tend to not trust a mechanic using badly rusty tools but I guess that's just me .
